My question exactly? Not trying to be funny (yeah I’m shocked too)
but wouldn’t a charter possibly be able to ward off suitors for coaches? Think the boosters might be able to match what a bigger public school was offering.
Possibly…

We both know how a lot of charter schools “reload”. And for quite a few of the more successful programs, at least the ones around these parts, it is definitely not the typical high school jv route.I'm not sure Corvian would have a bigger boosters than certain CMS schools.
Going to a bigger school could open more doors as well.
South Carolina may come calling.
It was noted they don't have a jv program but a middle school program. If they can't get jv going they'll struggle to maintain. I still think it will be luck of the draw for these charters, especially in football.
Mitchell line better improve if they want have a shotMitchell Should be better next year as they started 5 sophomores this year.
I been wanting to ask this quest just purely as a guest from the outside looking in. Here in WV we just redone our classifications last year for the season we just completed. We went from 3 classes to 4. This was because our enrollments are dropping and had to readjust and make the classes have a tighter numbers group. How did some of the 1A schools from this year jump all the way up to 3A? That just seems like a really big jump? Did a lot of the areas 2A & 3A schools jump up too? Did some of them jump up 2 classes as well? That’s all I was wondering and not asking this to start any BS at all. Just seems like a big jump where in WV we were going the opposite direction with schools getting smaller. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas down there. Everyone has a safe and Happy New Year’s as well!!Heritage returns a few major playmakers though I don't know if they'll make a dent in 3a next year might make it to the second or third round, I think we could potentially have as much success in 3a as Brevards had in 2a the last couple of years
With 8 classes there was a reduction in ADM per class across the board. This resulted in a lot of schools from 1A going to 2A. ER was the largest in 2A in initial draft at 587 ADM. They were moved up to 3A as smallest team when Reidsville was moved to 4A. As a side note Uwharrie Charter moved all the way to 4A!I been wanting to ask this quest just purely as a guest from the outside looking in. Thanks for the reply sir! A lot to take in with all the different factors making up the formulas. That charter school was in 1A I think or for some reason I thought I remembered seeing their name there? Maybe I am mistaken? Sure is going to shake things up next season and create new rivalries for sure. Did the Shelby school I have just recently learned about stay in 3A or did they move up from 2A? Isn’t Reidsville a pretty historic team in the state for most state championships? Not trying to wear anyone out with questions just pure curiosity and respect is all. Yes that charter was 1A and currently has an ADM of 875!Thanks for the reply sir! A lot to take in with all the different factors making up the formulas. And how many actual football playing schools in 1A?Also, 8A only has 32 schools.
I’d say around 25 or soAnd how many actual football playing schools in 1A?
I honestly don’t know the true number.
No more than 20 ... Double that for 2A ... Thus, the idea of 1A and 2A combining for a championship ...I’d say around 25 or so
I counted at least 25 in 1A and over 40 in 2ANo more than 20 ... Double that for 2A ... Thus, the idea of 1A and 2A combining for a championship ...
This is wild! Like, look at West Virginia - schools droppin' like they're in a game of musical chairs! 😂 If a bunch drop out while others are flexing their enrollment gains, next thing you know, Carolina schools are out here catfishing bigger names! Imagine chilling at your small-town high school and suddenly you're squaring up against the big dogs cause your basketball team just decided to actually show up to practice! Ain't that a plot twist?I been wanting to ask this quest just purely as a guest from the outside looking in. Here in WV we just redone our classifications last year for the season we just completed. And has been allowed to compete in 1A with over 800 kids and will again this year. Sounds like sad song but it does take away opportunity from traditional much smaller schools with limited boundaries come time for state duals in wrestling and other sports this final alignment year.Yes that charter was 1A and currently has an ADM of 875!
Shelby is 3A, second largest in classification with 792 and is 2A this season.
Reidsville has the most state championships, unless you ask the triumvirate from Shelby 😂
Murphy with what looks like a nice pickup in the trenches, the rising junior transfer will add some much needed beef (6'4 280) upfront for a squad that was largely missing it last year outside of #71.I think the season we just completed was the beginning of a nice four year run for Murphy. The Dogs have a really good rising senior group but are still a relatively young team overall. They should be really good (with the potential to be great) next season and a couple of more years after that. They have a chance to represent the west next year assuming everyone who is due to return, does return, and if season hindering or season ending injuries to key players can be avoided. I really want to see a Murphy vs Tarboro 2a state championship game. One would think it’s bound to happen at some point. Dream matchup between two great programs. But, got to get through what I’m sure will be a tough regular season schedule and then teams like Starmount and Corvian in the playoffs. A lot can happen between now and then.
Really good schedule. This certainly should help them in the long run.Murphy with what looks like a nice pickup in the trenches, the rising junior transfer will add some much needed beef (6'4 280) upfront for a squad that was largely missing it last year outside of #71.
I'm sure any additions for that matter with an opportunity to contribute will be a welcome sight for the coaching staff because Murphy's non conference schedule next season is going to be brutal:
@ Franklin
@ Heard County GA
vs East Surry
@ AC Reynolds
If the 'Dogs come out of that gauntlet 2-2 I'd consider it a solid showing, if they managed 3-1 well I'm sure everyone associated with the program would be ecstatic with that.
We should be loaded in the playmaker department. The line will be young, but I believe they’ll be able to step up to the challenge
Super excited about the upcoming season and non conference schedule! First game is at the brand new Franklin stadium. Huge game for both teams. Dogs will be looking to avenge last season’s only regular season loss (33-13), and Franklin will be looking to start off with a W in their new home.Murphy with what looks like a nice pickup in the trenches, the rising junior transfer will add some much needed beef (6'4 280) upfront for a squad that was largely missing it last year outside of #71.

You’ll play Franklin at WCU or Rabun Gap…the new field won’t be ready till next year.Super excited about the upcoming season and non conference schedule! Then comes the home opener against ES! How fun is that matchup? This is just me thinking out loud, but I’m guessing that there will be a tribute to JR and that this will be an emotional game on the Hill. Gonna miss him dearly.
Next is a cool road trip to Heard County GA for a rematch of last season’s 29-27 Murphy home win. Both teams were young last season and both return a ton of talent this season. Should be a fun atmosphere down there.
To top it off, a trip to Asheville to take on arguably the best program in the mountains year in, year out! Big opportunity here for the Dogs to show that they are not only one of the best 1a (well 2a now) teams in the mountains, but one of the best teams period.
I agree coming out of that schedule 2-2 would be reason to be ecstatic, but I think the Dogs, with a couple of breaks and a well timed bounce here or there, and with good injury luck, will have the goods to do even better. Can’t wait to get it started!
Oh man I didn’t realize that. That’s even better. No panther pit this year! You’ll play Franklin at WCU or Rabun Gap…the new field won’t be ready till next year.
Do we have a stud freshman moving in here ?In the 2A west:
Corvian loses a lot of seniors, I'm sure they will reload with new players to some degree but have to imagine there will be some level of rebuilding next season.
Deana covered what Starmount has returning, I fully expect the Rams to be in the 2A western regional finals next fall.
Murphy will return a lot from this year's 4th round team, very few seniors. How far they can go depends on the QB situation, if the stud freshman QB gets a fair chance and wins the varsity job next summer then I think Murphy has a chance to be really good and potentially come out of the west, but if the current junior QB is the guy again Murphy will make it about as far as they did this year I'm afraid.
I guess we could quibble as to whether "stud" is the appropriate verbiage for a kid that's right now completely unproven at the varsity level but in 2024 Bain was the best looking JV QB Murphy's put on the field since Joey Curry a decade ago. I think at the very least we could both agree that Bain has the raw tools to qualify as a stud at some point: arm talent, height, poise in the pocket.Do we have a stud freshman moving in here ?
Genuine question for you though tuff, does the freshman's current standing in any way change the calculus on my overarching point that big strides are necessary at the QB position relative to last season for the 2025 team to achieve a deeper playoff run?Do we have a stud freshman moving in here ?
In my opinion, He has a long way to go.Genuine question for you though tuff, does the freshman's current standing in any way change the calculus on my overarching point that big strides are necessary at the QB position relative to last season for the 2025 team to achieve a deeper playoff run?
You have to be dominant up front for that to hold, Murphy o-line would need to take a big step forward, which they may.@mbdfan…I’m thinking that as good as Murphy’s running game should be this season, a great passing game may not be needed to win it all. Just a serviceable one might do. Tarboro wins all the time without much of a passing game.
I may be way off, but I think Catuto will end up being the FB, and will be a very good one. I could see Clem at RB and Davis at WB just to get those two on the field together at the same time. Besides being a great runner, Davis also has excellent hands and he could really make the WB position special until it’s time for him to move to RB (probably after Clem graduates). Herron and Barber should be very good in the backfield as well. It will be interesting to see where everyone lines up and how they are rotated this season. You have to be dominant up front for that to hold, Murphy o-line would need to take a big step forward, which they may.
Murphy would also need a serious third threat in the backfield for that to be realistic, Tarboro had almost three 1,000 yard backs last year. Clem and Davis will need help, be it at full or at wing. There's some options but the best ones are going to be 10th graders and might be a year away from being ready.
I love the discussion you Murphy fans have going on for several reasons. First, it just gets me excited for the upcoming season. Second, I love that I’m not the only nerd that is thinking about HS football this time of year. Last, it’s just a reminder of how awesome small town football is for our communities.I may be way off, but I think Catuto will end up being the FB, and will be a very good one.
