Top 5 3A 2023

I didnt' realise AC Reynolds was back in 3A, vaguely remember something about a petition.

let me rethink

1.ACR
2.WC
3.Dudley
4.KM
5.Crest

6.E. Lincoln
I wouldn’t put them first because they’re losing a lot but they will be a tough out for sure. Crest should be the favorite or KM if they get a legit quarterback.

We will know a lot about our team after non conference play. It will also help prepare us for the playoffs.

@ West Forsyth
vs Shelby
@ East Forsyth
vs Watauga

That first 4 weeks will tell a lot. We did lose some real quality players but we also return 7 on defense and 7 on offense.

Ima try this again. Lol
1. Crest. You can just feel the hype around here. The returning players have turned into grown men in the weight room and we have plenty of speed. Ton of experience now. And some good additions in players and coaching staff.
2. WC. I think they continue their good fortune coming off the playoffs last season. Hopefully they don’t have any outside troubles.
3. Dudley. I really don’t know a lot about them. They were younger last season so should be more experienced. Play in a poor conference.
4. KM. I put KM back on the list bc of their defense and their defense only. Quick! Front 7 can win games alone. Offense will have to prove alot!
5.SP. Don’t care what anyone thinks. The redbone is nasty! They always seem to be in contention at the end. Well coached. Disciplined players.

I would agree with this list. I believe KM is just a QB away from being really good. I am just not sure if the JV QB is ready to step into the roll of the Varsity QB this year I guess we will see

I agree. The HS QB position is hard. You either have it or you don’t. Even if you got a good transfer we don’t know how he’ll perform. And new coach new system I’m guessing. It’s just really hard bc your non conference and conference is tough as nails.

I’m not sure how came up with that pick but half of Dudley’s starters last year were underclassmen and Eastern had a senior led team and still got beat by 40. I wouldn’t be surprised if the score isn’t about the same next year.
Don't know what you speaking on. Eastern got a stud freshman Qb coming along with several Dbs and Wrs. My son in the 7th grade plays on Team Takeoff with several high school stars like Terrell Anderson etc. When I tell Eastern is going to surprise alot of ppl.

I don’t understand why ppl always talk about poor conferences being a deciding factor I thought this been debunked plenty of times already

Nb conference is not that good outside of havelock and a few others they won on the highest lvl

Havelock won with crappy conference
West Rowan won with bad conference
And east Lincoln just won with a bad one

Dudley is gonna be good like they always are I understand good conference play is gonna get u prepared for close games but if you’re great you’re great no matter how bad your conference is

But I also understand where you’re coming from because playing better people makes you better but also if you want to be better then you will be that just comes down to self determination and coaching

I’m glad you brought this up! The last two 3A champs came from bad conferences.

I was just about to edit this and say that Dudley won against jh rose also and both those teams came from bad conferences quote on quote “ I mean I don’t think havelock conference is bad but some will say it is 😂even tho the past 14 years almost every year except maybe 3 someone from our conference was in the states

Dudley is gonna be good they were just young last year

I honestly think it’s gonna be between Dudley crest Km and sp who comes out the west

The jump from middle school football as a player to varsity football is huge. Not saying it can’t be done but It’s tough to depend on freshmen coming into high school to plug holes.

The young qb has really good arm talent. He can sling it all over the yard. He needs to work on building his body in the weight room and speed/agility drills which will help his overall game. He is way behind physically where he should be compared to his teammates. The KM skill groups are loaded but they need a qb to get them the ball.

If some pieces fall into place SP will be just fine. Biggest question mark will be the defensive secondary as essentially are gone from last year. And who will fill the FB position. If we land the RB from Holbrook MS he will start on varsity. That will allow Chaynce Ford to stay at LB. If he doesnt land at SP Ford will be at FB and then they have a hole in middle of the defense.

A 9th grader will be that good? Guess its a new day. West Charlotte has a few incoming 9th graders that will compete for time, and had a 9th grader start at QB last year. Really like the incoming 2027 class for WC. If they stay all 4 years watch out. The 2028, and 2029 class will also be loaded for WC. Not sure how the classes will breakdown in 2025 but WC will be a very tough out with the incoming talent the next few years.

Do you think they will have the talent to compete with the other Mecklenburg schools? They will move up in classification in 2025 with the new alignment rules.

Absolutely. Especially on defense. Realistically they should have beat Kings Mountain last year. Their losses last year were to Butler, Indy, MC, Chambers, and Hough. So practically 5 of the top 10 4a Schools in the state. This was with a suspended coach, and losing a QB in the preseason.

Think Indy, MC will both be up. Chambers, Hough even to down. Butler the same. Just thinking from Harding that Coach Greiner in his 4th year will make a very big stride with the team. New school, new attitude and new excitement. He fits the WC mentality and the players and parents love him. Hopefully he turns this into a Dudley type program.

I think KM should be #1 because with that staff a QB will soon be coming in..no doubt about it..

I believe the west championship goes through Crest or ACR. You are correct about they will move to play for the current staff. At his last spot, they had some families from different states move just to play for him. It will be easier for families to make the transition to KM when the casino is fully built in the next few years because of the higher paying jobs. That's when I think you will see KM and this coaching staff really gets some difference makers. 4-5000 full-time permanent jobs at the casino is a lot of new faces moving in. Not including the rest of the shopping and entertainment jobs that will be surrounding it. I know one developer has already bought land for 1000+ homes several years ago in anticipation for the casino.

Sounds like the path to 4A(or 6A) for KM

Between KM getting a great coach and Crest returning literally almost everyone and everything Cleveland County will have a lot to say.

Dudley and South Point will be in the mix as usual and I'm sure their fans are ready for the rubber match if it happens again this year. Here's hoping lol.

AC Reynolds will be an interesting team to follow this year as they're always consistently well coached and have the program to play with anyone.

Out east I expect the usual suspects will stake their claim.

What can yall tell me about East Lincoln?

I know yall beat Kannapolis, Butler and Chambers before losing to Weddington by 7 last year in the playoffs, returning that many starters, how much production did you lose?

If that many folks actually move to area then KM could possibly be moving up to bigger classifications in the future

Yeah, it is coming. That's what 'chop' was saying above. You can already see the growth from the 3 newest apartment complexes and 1st stage of the LGI homes in the lower grades. The next few years, i believe the intermediate and middle school is on track to send between 350 to 400 incoming freshmen each year.

Offensively we return most all of our production, leading rusher, QB, and 2 of top 3 receivers. On offense we lose 3 linemen and one receiver. Defensively is where we lose the most production, our top d-lineman, top LB, and D1 safety. All that and our top kicker, but I believe we have a quality kicker coming back.
