Baseball should be exciting for us this year at West Columbus, but I can hardly wait for football season. I know that it is only March and that a lot could change between now and then, but who is the early favorite in the conference? Share your thoughts.

My guesses right now are:

1. Fairmont
2. South Columbus
3. Red Springs
4. Whiteville
5. South Robeson
6. St. Pauls
7. West Columbus
8. East Columbus

Any predictions by you guys? Whiteville has had a very good defense the past few years and are always well coached, but I am thinking that Hutchinson will have just as much of a hard time running his offense at Whiteville as he did South Columbus. The Whiteville faithful could be in for a similar taste of bitterness. Can never count the Wolfpack out. Luke always does a fantastic job.

I should have added this to my last post, but I am unsure of who will win the conference right now between Fairmont and South Columbus. I think that Fairmont returns almost everyone on offense and they are going to be able to put up points early and often, but their defense has never been impressive. They were much better under their new coach this year, but I am not sure whether the offenses within the conference were anything special. South Columbus could be a fun group to watch this year especially with Coach Dove bringing in the old smash mouth concept back. South Columbus returns almost everyone from last years team and they got better and better throughout the year last year.

I heard that their JV went undefeated in the conference, so I am giving them some credit for improving. Coach Frank Jernigan used to coach here some years ago, and he was a fantastic coach. The kids really seemed to like him a lot. I heard that he is helping his son Clay over at South Rob. I am sure that if they will give Clay a chance to succeed and build a program, they will eventually be just fine. S2V, that is an interesting hire at SP. Why would King want to leave Smith for SP? We only lost to SP by a touchdown this past year and were a few plays a way from really breaking it off in them in the first half.

Money and/or education position is the only thing I can think of for the move. Hopefully SP will have smash mouth Football

I have came to learn that a great JV will not always be the Great Varsity.....I could be wrong.
