Tarboro vs Corvian for the Ship

You all don't have them either. If you guys were in the West wouldn't be there every year.
LIKE I SAID BEFORE, I can name multiple teams out of the east that would’ve beaten the same teams Tarboro beat in the state championship some years. It’s always “the east is weak”. They’ve been playing in championship games consistently since 08 bud. I guess there has been no talent in the east for 16 years.

When Tarboro played Mitchell a few years ago, Northampton & Pender would’ve easily won it all no question about it…And Edenton a few years back!

I’ll bet this clown that’s yapping any kinda money that EVERY starting running back for Tarboro (3), will have a touchdown Saturday.
If I was betting on the game I would take Tarboro. The first quarter will most likely tell the story if it's competitive game. Corvian is such a unknown in our area. All 4 games should be good.

That wasn't a change of narrative. The board, mostly MA and Mitchell fans, were arguing for 3 weeks that year, and in some cases to this day about that Mitchell-MA game. I still would. I know I will make several Mitchell posters mad or irritated with this statement, but that Mitchell team had no business being in that game. They were not the best team in western NC 1A that year. I honestly think that would have been a toss up if you played MA that year. They were largely the same team you played the next two years. That team was very sophomore heavy and was probably part of the reason they blew that Mitchell game with sideline penalties. Mitchell and Robbinsville would have been very good games with Northampton and Pender that year. You have a point with Edenton though. Those Edenton teams you refer to I will submit probably were the 2nd best team in the state in '17 and '18.

With that said, I will also go on to say that Eastern 1A football is weak. Tarboro is the one and only exception I will give to that statement. Now if you want to say 2A-4A I will agree there is some great football in the East there. But the 1A State Championship has been the Tarboro Invitational for 8 years now because

1. Tarboro has a great football program (credit is due were it is due, no denying that)
2. Ever since Jame Kenan and WRH went 2A followed by Edenton you mentioned, there has been absolutely no one in the 1A East to provide a challenge.

And I think if your are honest about it, you realize that. That is why you look forward to games with SWE, Martin County, and Havelock types because you will actually get to see a football game rather than a track meet for your RBs. You have to go up in class to actually have a game to care about or wait for the championship game. Most of you seem happy about being in a 3A conference next year. Why is that? Because of that very reason. Your posters own comments in the realignment thread even back that up looking forward to games that won't be blowouts. It's not an insult, it's just the classifications as they currently are and have been. Luckily for you that changes next year and Robbinsville gets to experience your plight from the past 8 years where they only get to see football playing out of their classification.

All the same, enjoy the championship game, this is a fun week for you guys. I am looking forward to seeing #2 run the ball. Good luck.

Mitchell had the Refs as their 12 man on the field that year with to many flags to count and 3 or 4 TDs for Mount Airy called back and Mount Airy losing 21-14 and MA should have won 35-21.

Well we have circled back to the Mitchell/MA game. If most Mitchell folks are honest and I think most on here will agree…..MA was the better team, however, on that night due to many factors most of which was self inflicted by MA Mitchell came out on top. In the end Mitchell played in the ship.

Go Mountaineers

I know that but I do love hearing Mitchell admit who the better team was from the West in 2021 😉 🐻🏈

You keep making these comments about what the Corvian coaching staff is gonna do….do you not think the Tarboro coaches are watching film and finding weaknesses of Corvian?
I think the Tarboro coaching staff is likely telling their kids if we don’t turn it over we don’t get beat. Corvian turned over everyone in the west and squeaked by a couple teams because of it. I don’t believe they are best of the west but they played the best in the west and that’s all that counts. I would have loved to have seen a Heritage Tarboro rematch but Heritage didn’t put Corvian away early in the game like they should have. I really don’t think Corvian wins this game but I do believe it will be close and they will try their best to strip the ball etc to give them a chance. If Tarboro has 0 turnovers they win by 14. If they have 1 then by 7. If 2 then they may very well lose

So basically, you’re not giving Tarboro’s defense any credit in this post? You don’t think Corvian can be stopped, even off of turnovers?

This is Corian's third year having a football team and only their second year making the playoffs. They won the West against 3 really good teams and are now playing Saturday for the State Championship game. Do they deserve to win? Hell no, because something is fishy with this coach and team ! ! !

Tarboro try to strip that ball on every play and let them think about getting the ball stripped for a change.

My opinion on Corian is they are even better than they play and do just enough to win and stay under the radar. They came up too fast and there is more to it than meets the eye !

I may be wrong but just look at their record for the last 2 years on every game they played....

I can completely agree with that.

Who was the best team in the state for 1A that year?
I think Tarboro would have probably beat Mount Airy that year. They were very young, but I think it would have been an awesome catchup. Either way, we have a new game to watch this year. And I do think we have the two best teams in the championship, although I think ER could make a case for themselves. They have had that case for the past 3 years if I am honest myself.

Great example of that MA class....
Yes, you set a great example making this statement and your posts have nothing to do with the Tarboro and Corvian game. You are always looking for a Bears fan to put down so you can post something since you have a losing team that goes back how many years ? A very lot of years.

Here's the thing... It wasn't the tempo per se that was the problem. Tarboro can play fast. It was Havelock being able to sub in college level talent to keep the tempo up without losing a step that was Tarboro's undoing. It was tired bodies vs fresh bodies. If Tarboro had as many top level athletes as Havelock did, the outcome may have been different. The first half was neck and neck. Unless Corvian has D1 talent on the sidelines to sub in when Tarboro gets tired, the up tempo won't matter. It would probably cause more mistakes for their own team than anything.
Conditioning has been in Corvian's favor so far during this run and could be a factor. If Tarboro isn't in shape... 😱
