Best schedule Tarboro has had in a long time. I only see maybe three games that I feel will be a running clock.

I will assume Rocky Mount, Havelock, Southwest will be away games The Conference will be tough and should bring money to the gate. Should motivate the Tarboro program and the fans.
That’s also part of it. I don’t want to dump on our previous 1-A conference opponents. Most are doing the best they can, but their fans don’t travel. Playing bigger programs locally and up a level in conference play could put more asses in seats. That’s more ticket revenue. That’s more concessions. More people commands better prices on stadium advertising and sponsorship.
Its also means more opportunities to be in meaningful games, which means our players will have more opportunities to be seen by recruiters. It’s really frustrating to see so many talented players miss out on potential college scholarships. Their talents aren’t showcased enough when the score is 42-0 in the second quarter on the road in a county that has little to no local TV coverage.
Selfishly, I live in Wilson. It’s already a 45 minute drive to home games. Going to Hertford County, Perquimans, Gates, Plymouth (Washington County) doesn’t seem worth it traveling 3+hrs combined for roughly 24 minutes of pretty non-competitive football. Hunt is less than 5 minutes from my house. RM is a shorter drive than Tarboro. That Havelock game on the road will be a haul, but it will be competitive and I will be compelled to go just to see all 4 quarters. Maybe that can be rolled it a fall weekend at the beach.
Most of the Tarboro faithful that have been around for years and years have noticed the drop off of enthusiasm and energy from the community since we joined 1-A. The energy really picks up as Thanksgiving draws closer, but the regular season isn’t that compelling. This season looks to change all that. I for one can’t be happier about it.

Great post and 100% agree with all you said. Glad to see this upgrade in the schedule for the Vikes. I realize at the 1A level they were locked in to playing their conference opponents and had no choice in that. Even if it led to awful games with the Vikings winning by 50+ points and a running clock. Getting North Edgecombe off the schedule is great to see. Nothing against the Warriors but that game had no business being played. Even if I was a die hard Tboro or NE fan, I'd rather watch grass grow than see the Vikes destroy the Warriors 70-6 with a running clock by the end of the 1st quarter. I know this is an in county game, but I can't imagine the gate for this type of game at either school is that big. Who wants to sit and watch that? And most all HS athletic depts. really depend on the football gate receipts. Better, exciting and competitive games mean more fans in the seats, a bigger gate and more community interest.
