Like Forbush, this is another tough job. Especially when having to compete against the beast that is MA and what is usually a good to very good East Surry team. Not sure that I recall Surry Central ever being all that good at football or making a decent playoff run. Seems like one of those jobs where if you can get to around .500 most seasons, you are doing a decent job. For some reason, they can't get it together with football in Dobson.Probably the kid they hired for AD last year would be my guess. Wouldn't be shocked if that was part of hiring him.
I am thinking back in the 3A 1970s only one team made the playoffs. Every team you met was a conference winner and you won or started basketball. They won the Northwest Conference once I think between 1975 and 1977 and it was only one of the few times they beat Mount Airy and at Mount Airy, this was 3A best I remember and some of us went to watch the 1st round game and they played and lost to a Guilford County team maybe Northern Guilford or Northwest Guilford, I just remember it was North & Guilford close to the college and we got off just past the airport. It has been too many years gone by, lol I can't remember them winning another conference title but someone else may remember another win. Maybe DaddyDoug has that year MA lost to SC in the mid-1970s
MA lost 2015 score 20-0Beat MA like 2011 ish
Mount Airy has beat SC through all the 2000 with one lose in 2015. Since 1971 MA has been 49-4 against SC which may or may not include this year. They had a solid run in the early 2000s into the mid 2000s when they had Wilbert Brown. They used to be a very competitive program. They need someone to come in and run an offense similar to what East Wilkes runs.
It was in 1976 that Mount Airy lost to Surry Central 20-22 and again in 2015, 20-0 and since 1970 they have only lost to them 4 times. All concerning the NWC over the years, Surry Central vs Mount Airy12 posts, 7 with MA in it.
And you wonder why everyone laughs at you guys. You took an announcement about a coach retiring and made it about MA.All concerning the NWC over the years, Surry Central vs Mount Airy
I agree it should had nothing to do with MA!And you wonder why everyone laughs at you guys. You took an announcement about a coach retiring and made it about MA.
TBH he is right! You are just jealous because you have no team to brag about for the last 4 years Or more years. I am not even sure who your team is. lol
Coach went out on a winning season and made the playoffs! He is a great Coach and even better person and will always be an Golden Eagle!I was expecting this to happen, he didn't really act like himself this year when we played. JV night he showed up late and didn't talk much and he was very quiet on varsity night. Kinda made me think then. But I always liked Southern, he always respected our kids and I respected him so much for that. It'll be weird not seeing him coach, he was at SC as long as I've been at NS (17 years.)
Whoever gets it will have a rebuilding period ahead of him. They had very few juniors this year and for a little bit it was only 3 or so they had out. Much like Elkin they had a ton of seniors, but unlike Elkin they made the most of their season. Their JV team had a rough year last year going winless for the first time at SC at any level since 1990.. Southern could see what was coming.
It'll be interesting to see who they go with. I'm like Thunderstruck I'm expecting that AD to get it, but I'm not sold on him either. They gotta be careful here, one bad move and a lot of Southern's work will be wiped away and it'll be a mess. They don't wanna be like South Stokes. South made a terrible hire in 2023 and it about near nuked their program, they've fixed it since but SC has a lot depending on this hire. Either they make a good hire and stay consistent, or not and it'll he a hard few years.
Yes, Stephen Bruner. Top notch guyI think that AD came from South Stokes right? I believe he was an SC grad but was at South when hired.
