Interesting scrimmage. South Point played without either potential starting QB as one had a wrist injury and the other is on a family vacation that was inadvertently scheduled at this time. Ray Grier and Will Reinhardt shared the duties which made timing on the option in the Redbone very disjointed. On the bright side the OL had a good night as they open some nice holes for Jones at fullback and CD found Jones to be a difficult challenge to stop. Jones coming off a 1600 yards of rushing last year proved ready to have an outstanding senior season. He is going to be a handful to contain. He is the full package speed, strength and quickness.
Grier had a TD on an option but only played sparingly. Reinhardt took 3/4 of the snaps from under center.
Defensively I was surprised how strong SP looked. CD had some success rushing very early but SP settled down hardly allowing CD past the line of scrimmage the rest of the way. CD's quarterback was tall lanky with a good arm but completed a very low percentage of passes. SP intercepted him twice.
SP offensively scored 3 times throughout the evening. CD had no offensive TD's however they would have had a pick 6 in a real game when Grier threw a pass in the flats that a CD defender stepped in front of. It appears the SP receiver broke inside while the Grier threw outside.
We will see what happens scrimmaging Hibriten tomorrow. I am not sure we will see either QB again tomorrow.
