Well tonight was a great night of Football for 3 South Forkers 2 of which are Lincoln county’s own. Tons of post on EL and Pisgah upset that nobody saw coming except some experts. But hey congrats to the Ponies, they showed up, wanted it more and got it.

NL....wow, these guys really put on a show. I was there for 2 quarters and left. My small gang of game jumpers decided we’d leave and see what was going on over at Bandys. My hats off to them too and for their bruiser RB. I can clearly see what was giving North trouble 2 weeks ago. Howard tied/surpassed Chris Dougles yards for Bandys overall. They were gonna have a ceremony for that tonight but I didn’t stay. Chris was a far better athlete than Howard, sorry. Best track hurdler around and big time speed. But congrats to the young man anyway.

Smokey Mtn just looked lost out there. Bout felt sorry for them but fantastic game for the knights. Finally something fans can enjoy. Been a long time coming and they deserved it. Shows how good this conference really or can be. Now we’re just waiting for another rematch. With North being on a roll, I can see round 3 for Knights. Should be East very well but i wouldn’t overlook anyone.

Bandys with a good game with Franklin, should make a decent run. Maiden, I’m sure the ER running back was alittle much.

What’s y’alls thoughts?

North and East next week is going to be a good one. Not sure who I'm picking but Bazzle has those boys playing some ball. Difference for East is that they finally made a qb change that needed to be done awhile ago. Right now I give the edge to north but this is a rivalry game and East has to have some confidence now so anything can happen. I thought Bandys was lucky to get out of their with a win to be honest. Those penalties got to get cleaned up but hey, live to fight another day. I didn't think we would get a team into the third round but I was wrong. Also, congrats to West on a great season. Those boys fought hard tonight.

Maiden don’t have anything to hang their heads over. East had a couple studs step up and make some crazy plays. I truly thought it was going to overtime. Loosing the RB hurt them bad in the first of the game. But coaching was really good for Maiden made good adjustments

People keep underestimating the East Lincoln Mustang's. This team has a lot of heart and fight in them. I think this game against North is going to be one for the ages. Yes North did beat them once already. But this is the playoffs. All it takes is one good night. The Mustang's defense is playing lights out right now. Can't wait for Friday. Congrats to all the teams tonight even the ones who lost.

Anything can happen. I’ve seen a South Caldwell team get beat by ACentral and them meet in playoffs the VERY NEXT WEEK and South takes them to the woodshed. Happened in 05’ so it’s possible EL can come to Pumpkin Center a different team like SC did in 05’ rematch

Good luck to North and East this weekend. Wish we could have been there with you guys. Thank you NCHSAA lol. Shelby is a tough team to pull first round after a 9-2 season. We played well. The score doesn't show how well we played. Two turnovers recovered by us that the officials over ruled a late pick six to rune the score up and a first play 68 yard pass that our DB's underestimated. I think in the end we held the run game to less than 50 yards and shut thier passing game down the second half. Bess may have had around 250 yds.? Which is pretty good against a high powered passing game. Total yards for both teams were very close to each other. Just mistakes will kill you. Not to mention we held them to 2 field goals within 10 yards. Very proud of our boys and looking forward to next season. Basketball next; you boys take it easy on us. Basketball is definitely not our strong suit lol.

Howard actually passed Chris Spade’s school record last night. Spade was the all-time leading rusher, not Douglas. Douglas was second on the list before Howard passed him earlier in the season.

There’s no doubt that Douglas was a better athlete. But that doesn’t take anything away from what Howard has accomplished. Your post made it seem like Howard not being as good of an athlete diminishes becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher. Maybe I’m just reading your post the wrong way, but that’s how it came across for me.

The better athlete yes but the record, good. Any broke records gets a congrates from me. Personally I like power backs. He’s one many teams would love to have. Just saying. Sorry if I was misunderstood. Sometimes we talk trash on here but we’re nonserious and playful about it.

North showed they can play. Not going to comment much against EL... I know a lot of boys in program and am glad the won last week! All I can say is bring your A game.. we will be ready to play! Let’s make it a good one. It’s not very often you get a chance to beat a rival twice in same season.. especially one you hadn’t beat in 10 some years!

It will be a battle in Dungeon!

My observations of the North game- well for one I showed up ha ha. Still hadn’t made it all the way through a full game as we left at halftime cause of the lopesided score. Which is a good thing that it was loop sided cause they’ve missed that for nearly 10 years.

Cribb used very well either as a decoy or actually running. I can tell SM defense keyed in on him very well and with purpose and reason. Which left great running lanes for Sorus. This is def a one two punch that many will miss when the final whistle blows....hopefully in December ha ha.

Ty Williams wisely used on D. Hate I didn’t get to see him have any carries. That musta been later in the game. Seems to be a great athlete. Defense really stepped it up and or SM looked like they came into this game confused and defeated at the very start. North capitalized on mistakes and when 21 gets dropped on ya that quick, discouragement sets in. North has been on that side of the ball MANY times MANY years. So glad the boys and the community enjoyed a blowout victory.

A 3rd round and a chance at Shelby is badly desired and I believe they will get their chance. Bazzle got something cooked up for East I’m sure so another win for the record books could very well be under way.

Yes the two make a good team.. also don’t sleep on qb beard.. he can bust one too! Beard has some speed! He had a great game when they played East last time and I expect another great game. We have a lot of weapons.. gonna be hard to shut em all down. When they have to truly defend all 3 parts of option it gets difficult

And Yes Ty’s runs were later in game. He was pumped.. first varsity TD.

Good deal on all that. I tell you what and I didn’t mention it on my observation but on paper I was figuring SM was tougher because of conference and that North would be the underdogs. Since they barley lost to Pisgah I was like oh man I hope the best for those guys, SM must really be tough. And since East skimmed by them, on paper North will have this in a rematch. That’s when overconfidence gets the best of people.

Specific games I’ve seen this happen- 05’ South Caldwell and ACentral rematch. South came out a week after taking a beating and just DESTROYED those boys. I never seen one side get so excited and a home side ready to pop a couple drinks out of shock ha ha.

East Burke/Freedom 98’ Freedom destroyed/crushed/sliced EVERY conference team that beat EB.....only to walk away barley winning. On paper, ugly wasn’t the word for it before the first snap.

Take lessons from all that and play focused.

Nobody’s said anything bout the Bandys West Stokes game yet and it’s still a SF post. I don’t know anything about West Stoaks other than they have a great record, avg/below avg competition, and they didn’t beat Foard by much. Should be an easy game for Bandys then especially since Howard is a hard bowling ball RB to stop.

Howard will be hard to stop. West has a very balanced offense ,good quarterback that's accurate and good receivers. Couldn't understand Foard onside kick everytime.

Calpreps has it Bandys 31 to West Stokes 27. I don't know enough about either team to make an educated guess.

If W. Stokes has a passing attack, Bandys will be hard pressed to stop it. On the other hand, Bandys' rushing attack will be hard to stop. This could be 40-40 something shootout.

What does EL bring to the feild that they may not have had in the first game against NL? Beating Pisgah May weigh heavy on their minds as well as the fans but it may also weigh heavy on an EL fans mind that they destroyed a team Pisgah barely beat too. And East barely got by Pisgah.

This is probably what it will be. Bandys running game against west passing game

May come down to who wants it more and who makes the most mistakes will lose. It’s not like Hibriten and West Caldwell were Hibriten can play the bench, literally give them turnovers on purpose 5 6 7 of them and they’d STILL win. 1 or 2 could lose it for Bandys if not careful. Or Howard getting hurt that’d set them back but we don’t want anyone hurt for any team under any circumstance.

Burkeforreal you can keep doubting that East has a chance. If you remember North barely beat East. It was 24-16. And East fumbled a punt and had an interception to give North a big lead early. That game could have very well went the other way. Even after the game coach Bazzle said that East could have won. The Pisgah team you are saying East barely beat was a number one seed with an outstanding defense and was having an damn good season. I dont know who will win but rest assured East Lincoln will play their hearts out. Seems to me that people are still taking East Lincoln for granted and underestimating them. North most definitely didn't destroy East the first time. But good luck to both teams.

North Lincoln had a 21-0 first half. And East Lincoln had 16-3 second half. I'm looking forward to what I think will be another close ballgame. Hopefully one for the ages no matter who wins. I don't like blowouts I like a good close dogfight!!!! Best of luck to both.

I never doubted they would have a chance. I know they will. Hence my post to Northfan if you scroll up I told him bout teams being overconfident and giving good examples. I’m hoping that’s not the case with North on this one. Every game is different but you gotta wonder why Pisgah didn’t beat SM by more than what they did. I know that’s that on paper team A team B and C logic that nobody should go by cause things happen in a game that can swing momentum. East may be having a down year but their never short of athletes by no stretch of the word. Just some years they have more than others but in general they got the personnel to make a run if they play the cards right. North does too for the first time in a while lol.

I think the SM game woulda been closer but the early turnovers can throw a team all out of wack. The one score they did make on North looked beautiful. Soild long bomb pass with big wideout jumping up and catching it with no problem. I gotta admit North D covered very well, way better than what I saw last year. Some of that could be the play of the D line putting on the pressure. If East has a soild Oline and loves to pass then this could get interesting.

I look forward to a great game. And the atmosphere should be electric!!!! All these boys grew up together and know each other well. As do the coaches. Good luck to both. Are you going to attend??? Or maybe a different one??? Haven't heard much about the Bandys game. You heard anything about it??

Just what I posted and heard bout it in earlier post today. They love to pass and Bandys don’t do pass defense that well but they sure didn’t have a problem with Franklin. I’d imagine if Bandys has no turnovers it’ll be Bandys by 1 to 2 scores.

I more than likely will be there. That’s a SUPER hard call considering I hadn’t saw Hibriten in action yet but I’m sure they’ll take care of South Point. This will be a game I’ll have to get there earlier than last week lol. Be some major tail gatein I’m sure

I got Bandys moving to 3rd round. East will make thing interesting I’m sure.. but I bet to win they will have to put up 30. I don’t see North kept under 28. Both teams have ability to score and North Defense is coming on strong. This will be the first game in 8 or so weeks we will be at full strength. It’s a great thing one Lincoln County School will see the 3rd round! Can’t wait for Friday!

And yes all these boys are friends.. hell half of them played optimist football together. Unfortunately only one will continue.

Just wanna wish a very happy Thanksgiving to all the South Forkers especially Lincolnton, West Fan, NorthFan, Wolf, and even Wscribb. Don’t know we’re he went but love all y’all. May God richly bless you on this fine season. Keep Him first, keep on Trumpin’ and go Knights. We didnt win the house but hopefully North will make up for it lol. You guys need that appearance in Shelby but what would be even neater is playing at West Jefferson. You guys would LOVE it up there. Beautiful country, down to earth people that really love their Huskies. People not giving them ANY chance against Shelby but i tell you what. Their QB and WR are the real deal and if they give him blocking time he’ll burn Shelby. Just defense that will really have to come through.
Just a lot on the line and a lot can happen. Let’s just take care of the Green n orange first.

Happy Thanksgiving, BFR. Hope you get a chance to take in one of the games, tomorrow night. should you go to North Lincoln, go early. There'll be a crowd. Word around here is an East Lincoln upset, but I don't know about that.

Happy thanksgiving Burke and everyone else that has kept the South Fork relevant on these forums all season long. We may disagree on some things but at the end of the day we all just want to see some good football being played. Good luck to the South Fork teams tomorrow. Lincolnton, I must admit I am one of the ones that believe the ponies get it done. Pumpkin Center will be rocking tomorrow night.

Wolf4Lyfe, you aren't by yourself. I work with someone who has a direct connection to both teams and she believes the Mustangs will upset North. To me, the Knights are a better balanced team but I also think East is better than their record indicates.
Based on recent games I see both coming in with a lot of momentum.
I'd thought about going to Lenoir to watch South Point and Hibriten, but I just may end up at Pumpkin Center.
It sure is an empty feeling not having my team in the mix. Playoff games and this time of the year go together like macaroni and cheese.

North by 16. See ya’ll tomorrow!

I’m feeling this game more than Hibriten. But dang I’m telling ya it’s so HARD to walk away to not see Gee Witherspoon take it to the goal line time after time and shut the SP crowd up. I’m bout ready to flip a coin lol. Lincolnton prob is too. From the way y’all talk bout Ty Williams he’s gonna be another Gee Witherspoon type back. I sure hope so or better. Gee dont have the blazing track speed y’all may think. 1 or 2 of his own teammates outdo him in the 100 and 200. But he sure has moves. Should by some crazy chance North meets them in 2 weeks, that D no matter how up and improved they are this year just will not stop him. Nobody will. Like I said before it’d be an honor and a moral victory just for them to go to Lenior and watch them walk down those long set of steps to ACDC Carrying the American flag.

The big Black and Red has come a long way in their program and hasn’t ceased to impress. I can see North having a go at them next year if not this year. North stock should be up, theirs will be alittle down. Still be good but losing 21 seniors is tough to overcome. Good JVs coming up so they might pick up some from we’re theyll leave off.

It's tough not having a game at Memorial Stadium this time of the year but it is what it is. I am trying to decide which one I want to go to myself. If you have not seen Gee Witherspoon I highly suggest making a trip to Lenior to see him. He reminds me a lot of Peanut with the ball in his hands.

Guys, I think the Hibriten posters might be underestimating South Point. I saw Hibriten and M. Witherspoon play, twice, last year. The Panthers are clearly the favorites but the Raiders could be the spoiler. From what I’ve read, their (South Point’s) offense was designed for a smaller team and was arguably put together by a coach from the mountains of North Carolina, Paul Johnson. The Raiders run it best, at least, around here.

Hibriten is a championship team and they have proved it but this talk about South Point being a championship program is true. They are a very tough bunch and are not strangers to bigger and quicker opposition.

Bandys is a physical team and I look for them to handle West Stokes, readily. I saw Bandys play West and North Lincoln. They were behind in each game but were able to come back and win.
I would pick North by a touchdown.
Everybody wrap up good. It’s going to be cold.

I know Hibriten can take SP. it’ll be the toughest game but consider it done. North will have to play mistake free ball to stay in it. Bandys will win and will get a shot at their old conference foe Hibriten. Howard will give their D a hard time but it won’t be enough. Then most likely be another Shelby rematch.

I do sincerely hope North has this shot and they can. Mistake free ball, tight D and play their game and they can...but odds are against them.

I said this in a earlier forum that North was the best 2 win team in the area and I was laughed at but as you can see what’s going on this year I was right. They was in on alot of games last year but never closed the deal.

Regarding Paul Johnson, he and former coach Cloninger were roommates at Western Carolina. When we switched to the triple option a few years back Coach Johnson helped the coaching staff out a lot with the transition. Just thought that was an interesting tidbit. But anyways, I'll still stick with my prediction that West Stokes stuns Bandys at home, their pass defense will be tested big time in this one. I see the North and East game coming down to the wire but something tells me the ponies pulll off the upset in Pumpkin Center
