This one should be interesting, two first-year head coaches hashing it out on the field. Think I'll take a trip over the mountain for this one.

This could be a really good game, smoky looks to be the better team but I'm hoping our mountaineers come up with something better on offense against a good team. They look good against the bottom feeders but have struggled against better teams the last few years. They have to find a QB, in my opinion, who is accurate and consistent throwing the ball.

I am surprised this game has not gotten more press than it has. SM is undefeated, and it appears their defense has markedly improved over years past. THS defense has played pretty well of late and the offense has also stepped it up a bit, but I believe THS still needs a power back that can pound for tough yards when needed. Cant cry over what they dont have I guess.

Tuscola will struggle the rest of their schedule . IMO they have the wrong q.b. Playing . Think the backup would be the better choice . The kid playing now is not a true qb. Would be good for the offense we ran last year . By the way why would you change and offense that averaged 30 plus a game ?. Hope the Mounties show up. Go big t

Smoky is obviously the better team. Yes, they will have problems throwing the ball but Tuscola has to score to win...... Smoky's defense is by far one of the most discipline defenses in the state.

In the state? I am going to have to see more than wins over Cherokee, NB, Swain and Andrews before I would go that far.

You can't be serious. Their schedule is trash.

I dont know about that. I have been surprised by the competitiveness of North Buncombe, and Cherokee IS the defending 1A state champions still have a lot of good players on that team too. Most years Swain can play with anybody but may be down a bit this year. Smoky MT's weakest point has been their defense in years past, and that is what I want to see whether the new coach has shored that up.

I agree. I am not real impressed with the first year Coach changing the offense. A moron knows it takes 4 years to make the triple option work. Pursley instilled a great offense that virtually no one can defend and he rolled up points like a Pisgah team rolls up personal fouls. They then decide to go to the spread. Granted the defense is better, no mountain school with a bunch of slow ass white boys should ever run the spread. Wishbone, Triple option, I formation, etc. Chappell and Postell are both stupid in that area. Tuscola had it taught by one of the best ever in the State as Pursley coached with Fisher DeBerry from Air Force and a first year coach thinks the offense is better now by spreading the field with a bunch of 5.0 40 guys with a QB that can't complete a forward pass. Yeah, let's put the slow boys in space against Asheville, Erwin, Reynolds and anyone else with an athletic heartbeat. Tuscola deserves what they get for that stupid move. Great post Neuman.

Agree haywood county don't have the athletes, Pisgah nation will realise that after they get knockout in 2nd round of playoffs.

Seems to me I remember some serious criticism of the offense coach Pursley ran as well. I am a proponent of his philosophy and feel he was one of the best coaches Tuscola ever had, but coaches get to make these decisions. I remember when that offense worked, it was a marvel to watch, but when it doesnt. It can be ugly.

I don't believe he has changed the offense dramatically from what I have seen, its still a triple option with some addition of some spread passing plays but the only problem is the QB doesn't make the correct reads on option plays as he kept the ball about 70 percent of the time in the pisgah game and lost yardage everytime it seemed and he can't hit a receiver downfield. Pursleys offense was awful to watch against a good team because he couldn't or wouldn't draw up a pass play or go to a passing offense when he needed, and it was unbearable to watch. Its still a run heavy offense but they need to get the right QB in there IMO whether its #1 or #12.

SM has played nobody. I think Tuscola will roll in this one.
Tuscola has a loss to Pisgah and wins over Swain (who Smokey beat by 50), Enka, and North Henderson.

Does a double digit loss to Pisgah and wins over 3 teams that are a combined 1-12 really make you think Tuscola “will roll in this one” because they have played a tougher schedule? Or are you just bringing up Smokey’s schedule to dress up your opinion?

Couldn't have said it better. Last few weeks, they yelled and cussed at me for saying the same thing

Unreal officiating. I will never say a cross word about the Franklin officials again.easy to see how SM is undefeated so far. Youth league refs

Home cooking at Smokey tuscola leads 14-7 refs call at least 10 flags on tuscola were not even to halftime 1 on the mustangs so far ! Reminds me of pisgah /Robbinsville a few years back.

I think game film will be sent to proper authorities some refs probably be suspended after this one . Would not blame coach if he pulled his team off the field . Yea it’s that bad.

Tuscola showed real heart to win this one . Should have been 49-7 had there been a level playing field . I’ve seen a lot of high school football in my time but never one like this one. Very proud of our boys and our coaching staff.
