Shelby vs Carver

Carver played us tough. They match up better with spread offenses compared to power teams. Statesville qb ran for over 150 and threw for over 200. They are athletic everywhere. Shelby should have success but special teams nearly cost us against them. They ran back a kickoff and nearly did a punt. Sometimes are amongst the best we seen all year. Wr #9 is a Beast

What pass defense does Carver play? Zone? Man up?

I know Coach Ware working on kicking game, but special teams still not good at tackling...We should have everybody back healthy this week, all but maybe Lee....hope that sprain heels quick...
I hope they (Carver) dont play man to man....this fastest team imo we ever had.

Fastest team since the back to back '86 and '87 teams, but not as fast. Let's not forgot the studs on those teams who did indeed go D1. A few of those cats had that real speed, that track, sprinter's speed, not just good 40 times. They're speed transitioned to the track where they excelled as well. Tony Mauney, Cedrick Surratt, Rodney Robinson, Sergio Elmore, to name a few, were on a different level than these current group of guys. They had sprinters speed.

Very, very tough second round game for the number 1 seed.Must play with less penalties.

Carver defense will have to step up to have a chance in this game. This is a tough second round game for Shelby. They will be pretty close in speed but will not have the depth that Shelby has. Shelby highlights are impressive.

They mixed it up against Statesville. 1st half they played man and our receivers beat them time and time, then they switched to cover 4, mixed in some cover 2. After they went zone we used the screen game on them. Corners didnt impress me but their safties and olb were awesome.

Offensively #9 was the best receiver i seen all year. Statesville doubled him and they stopped passing. #3 the rb is a highlight waiting to happen, wrap him up or he will take it to the house

Must not be them. Somebody brought in a crazy good band during the playoffs and put on a great show for us.

I'm a Carver guy and yes our band will always deliver whether theres 20 or 60 of them. Our football team to me is as athletic as anyone. I'm not worried about speed cause we have plenty, however i am worried about scheme!! I've been underwhelmed by our team this year based on the athletes we have!! We are just too undisciplined to beat a quality well coached football team. We have good kids but too many times theyre playing what I call hero ball instead of just doing their assignment. Our defense has been solid and we're making some adjustments from what i've heard to accommodate Shelby's passing attack but I'm concerned about blown assignments which will lead to big play after big play against a quality opponent!! Our offense depends on our quarterback who has been hit or miss all year!! He's our coaches son and a great athlete (who i suspect will be covering one of the great Lion receivers) and when he's accurate we are dangerous!! Kwan Jackson wr(#9) is a big play waiting to happen if we can get him the ball!! Tyquan Watson rb(#2) is a four year varsity guy who is just electric in the open field can score from anywhere on offense and special teams!! Rashad Butler rb(#3) is a downhill tailback who can hit a seam and score from anywhere!! (he had 412 yards on 28 carries against North Rowan but I'd like to see him play some corner this week versus Borders) We are our own worst enemy and that can't be the case Friday versus Shelby!!! I feel like if we play well we will be within 3-7 points in the 4th with a shot. If we play the way we have typically we will lose by the aforementioned 28 points. Another thing about this team is that we are front runners, we will need something good to happen early or our heads will drop!!

I played against those guys at East Rutherford. Ive seen a lot of football over the years, haven't seen team that talented top to bottom. They were great. Would be interesting to see those players play in todays style of offenses.

Again I'm worried about you guys scheme on offense and defense. Usually we don't get out athleted (I'm sure it isnt a word!!!) but this team has had a hard time of staying disciplined. We tend to over pursue and go for highlight plays rather than just making the fundamental play. Instead of just taking the five yards on a hitch, we may try to reverse field for the home run and lose 10 yards!! Win, lose or draw I would just like for our kids to put 48 solid minutes of mistake free football and I'm more than willing to live with the result. And by mistake free I just mean unforced errors like defensive offsides on 3 & 4, to many men on the field and muffing a return. I expect kids to blow an assignment every now and then and sometimes the other team just makes a play but we cant be our own worst enemy!!

I was in weight training with those guys as a under classman. I can remember the coaches had Dunsey Harper, Tony Mauney, Cedric Surratt and Chad Holbrook all race. They finished as follows: Harper
Mauney
Surratt
Holbrook was last but he had been timed at a high 4.5 that year.

Agreed! Hopefully, Lee will be good to good to. Truck is one of the best athletes on the team without question, but he doesn't

Good read, those guys were phenomenal. Harper was among the first that I thought about, but left him off the list, absent minded. Smh... Props on mentioning him. He was a beast. Holbrook was good at all sports. I was in awe of those teams watching them as a kid. Think about all of that speed coming out of that backfield w/ those guys, and they were built like tanks. Those teams were so good, horses at every position, and their backups were good, depth galore.

I agree with this and if they do play mistake free look out because they have size and speed. Is the quarterback being recruited for that position or defensive back?

He's being recruited as a defensive back. He's probably our best safety but at that position he'd have to come up and attack the run. So most times he's placed on a good receiver all over the field. But he's our best option at qb and hopefully he will be on his game Friday.

He looks about the same height as his dad and he was a good receiver. Seen him play against the Panthers when he was with Detroit.

How is shelbys QB I heard he had a high ankle sprain. Dont think he played last week. If he did have a high ankle sprain that could make a big difference against an athletic team like caver. It take sometime to recover from an injury like that.

Not sure, but if he can't go this game gets a lot closer in a hurry.

Elmore was very fast in track back then..maybe fastest...I came out in 83 so they all younger then me,but i did go watch them some...All were great, Eric Peeler was a stud on D.

I don't think so. With the offensive weapons and Truck's ability to run, I think he would do just fine filling in again if he has to. I can't see there being much drop off just like last week.

The competition was that weak. Truck threw some dead ducks, not wounded, and 2-3 of them would have been intercepted by a good team. He had the great run and completed a couple of good passes. He's one of the best athletes on the team, and did what he was asked to do, which was obviously to go out and win the game, but I'm hoping Lee is back at quarterback quick, fast, and in a hurry. We should be concerned if he isn't back.

You are right...but after seeing what Truck was able to do in the ultimate pressure situation....the Crest game....I feel confident he would lead us to another W. Let's hope Lee is back...

Regardless of who plays QB I feel confident Shelby wins this game solidly. The concern going further I would have for the Shelby faithful is this: Lee breaks the field down into sections and finds the playmaker. Truck goes big down the field regardless or attempts to become the playmaker.

Carver will turn the dead ducks into touchdowns. They have aggressive defensive backs.

U may see combo of both Qbs...Lee back at practice at Tue....High ankle sprains take while to heel..but hes getting great care and Therapy.

If its truly a high ankle sprain it doesn't matter what kind of therapy he's getting. Those things don't heal in 2 weeks. Any professional or college athlete won't come back that soon from a high ankle sprain.

That's usually a 4 week recovery at best. After that it still has limitations in mobility.

It's easy looking good for a few plays here and there, but it's a totally different animal when asked to play that quarterback position for an entire game.

I've watched Truck since midget league, great athlete, one of the best, but I've never been a fan of his at quarterback, it's backyard football... unnecessary scrambling, throwing desperation passes. I've seen him do things reminiscent of what you'd see on Dragon Ball Z, actual spin throws. Versus quality opponents, be afraid, very afraid. Has nothing to do with my support of a sophomore quarterback, but I will remind some that Truck played JV last year and was not the quarterback for a reason.
