Ok week 1...playing at Freedom has aways been tough to do..It will be can Freedoms D stop the offense of Shelby. .And can Shelby D stop the Qb and running back of Freedom.
I say Shelby to much on offense and people see how good Shelbys D going be..
Shelby 34 Freedom 10

wow what a hell of a matchup here. Didn't know these 2 were playing. Shelby looks REAL strong, per usual. Freedom could win, but its not likely.

It is always tough for Shelby when playing at Freedom no matter how good Shelby is.Seems like the officials always play a role in this game. The running back will be a load for Shelby's defense as he is the real deal.

This should be a good one. Weapons on both sides.... Shelby looks very strong.
Can our O- line live up to the test?? Can our defense handle speed of Shelby??
Obviously, we need big game from B.J. and Crawford to stay in this one. Play
calling will be a main factor on our end. Good luck to both!

Ustream....you can see them both.
Freedom, one of few teams with a tie last year, finished 10-1-1 and lost the 50-49 shootout with one of the compass point Rowan County teams in the playoffs last year. A good opener for both teams.

I look for Freedom to employ ball control with Emmons getting 30 plus carries.

Very interesting game. Freedom may have the best run backfield in the state. A problem may be Freedom does not have more than an average offensive line this year. Key for Shelby on defense will be the defensive end and the outside linebackers. Emmons likes to stretch the play wide and uses his strength to shake defenders once he is at full speed.

Shelby should be more diverse on offense of the two. Not sure Freedom can cover Shelby's receivers, especially if they go 3 wide or more. If Freedom uses the safety in the same fashion as last year then Shelby will find long gains in the air.

This game will be decided on defense. Both will score points. I think it comes down to limiting big plays of more than 20 yards. If last year is an indication of the offensive philosophy then I don't see the Freedom QB putting the ball in the air very much. That might be a good thing considering Shelby has always had defensive backs with speed.

Good assessment GDG. I have heard that Coach Allen spent time
with Blair Hardin during the offseason, and that Hardin really encouraged
throwing the ball more. Hopefully we will see a mix this year.
Crawford is athletic and does have a nice arm..... hopefully he gets to use it.
We must get the ball to our receivers ... too much talent not to use.

Normally a good one tween these two.... Always hated to travel up there though.... Great crowds and such, just something always weird happens up there..
Must be from the refs that live under the bridge at the river there.. ha ha...

This is going to be a tough game .....It will only make both teams better, no doubt....

Force the qb to throw and Shelby will be fine. If its the qb from Hickory, Shelby will get 2 ints. He did not impress me at all against Statesville last year. In fact Statesville jayvee qb would had put up better numbers than he him

Freedom qb from Hickory last year has decent arm but throws high beyond the target and if he throws its looking down the same receiver.
Points feet directly at his intended target from snap then rolls out before the throw. Habits that need correction.

Something tells me we may end up with a TD or two called back and a recovered fumble that is ruled down.

Hitman - if Freedom wins, the officials have nothing to do with it.
I picked them myself.

:)

Emmons is great. I just wanna know exactly who did he put these numbers up against. Did he face any good defenses? I remember TA Mcleandon at NC State. Lord bless him, you could tell he never been hit in high school until he got to college. Point is Emmons is a special kid but I wanna see how do you react when you get put on your tail, time and time again.

The size along with 4.5 speed I think is attractive for any program, no matter who they played.

I have yet to see any team stop BJ for a full 4 quarters. Obviously he has not faced a defense
like Crest but he truly is an amazing RB. Not only is he very fast but also very strong! I think
Shelby will have all eyes on him Friday so it will be interesting to see what he does against
a 2A powerhouse.

Pats he has to be amazing to be going to Alabama to play football.I would have loved to have seen last years Shelby defense against him.

Hey Guys,
How do I listen to the Shelby game online? I know I listened to some games last year but forgot the website. Getting old I guess. I think they also had a call in post game show too. Good luck to Shelby on another great season. Thanks WP69.

Listen? Fortunately we have moved into the age of the games being "televised". You can watch all Cleveland County teams play via the above link or by downloading the Ustream app on your mobile device. We will be at the Shelby game but also watching the SP/Crest game on our phones. Technology is wonderful!

Unfortunately, there will be no live streaming for the Shelby at Freedom game. Freedom has a conference rule that doesn't allow for live streaming. You can still listen to us on either the radio (1390 AM - Shelby, NC) or on the internet on www.ktcbroadcasting.com - follow the links to Shelby Football or to WOHS

We'll begin the broadcast at 7:00 pm. Should be a great game with lots of college-level talent on the field.

Wow Emmons is a stud. Can't believe the way he can move to have that much size. Can't wait to see how he does this season and with Alabama when heads that way. Wish I could see this game, but I'll be at the SP/Crest game. Good luck to both teams.

After reading that article it appears that Freedom is loaded. Seems to have a lot of transfers. Could be a rough opener for the Lions.

Shelby has all the pieces to 3 peat this year. I was a little worried about our QB, but he showed me in the jamboree that he has what it takes. Should be a great game tonight.

PS. While this is my first post, I'm not new to the message board. Been following you all for years.

Lots of gifted players again this year.... engaging all of them will be up to the
coaches. This was an issue last year. Plenty of talent that was never put
to use. Crossing our fingers that this year will be different. The athletes are
here!!

They seem to be the Crest of Burke County
Hitman we really only have two transfers - QB from Hickory and lineman
from Patton. The linebacker came back to Freedom, does and always lived
in Freedom district.
