When it comes to religion and sports the court system has continually made clear rulings of what is allowed and not allowed. The law is not about feelings, it's about rulings and standards based on interpretations of the law.
What bothers me about religion and sports issues (coaches praying, team running through banners with scriptures, etc.) is that educators are continuing to be willfully stupid and not check if something is legal.
As an administrator and doctoral student in education it is unacceptable to THINK you know the law.
Read Lemon v Kurtzman. That established a three prong test for school and religious issues. That is a good start.
I don't know Coach Young, but I understand he is a great guy. I hope he lands on his feet and continues to be a winner.
I have no knowledge as to why he was fired, but if it stemmed from praying with a team, or any coach for that matter, then the cause is with them and no one else. Well, maybe a sorry school administrator for not clearly explaining the law.
