Because of the way America is today, I'll speculate that he was fired for leading the team in prayer. Because, you know that's bad morals & teaching kids it's ok to pray.

When it comes to religion and sports the court system has continually made clear rulings of what is allowed and not allowed. The law is not about feelings, it's about rulings and standards based on interpretations of the law.

What bothers me about religion and sports issues (coaches praying, team running through banners with scriptures, etc.) is that educators are continuing to be willfully stupid and not check if something is legal.

As an administrator and doctoral student in education it is unacceptable to THINK you know the law.

Read Lemon v Kurtzman. That established a three prong test for school and religious issues. That is a good start.

I don't know Coach Young, but I understand he is a great guy. I hope he lands on his feet and continues to be a winner.

I have no knowledge as to why he was fired, but if it stemmed from praying with a team, or any coach for that matter, then the cause is with them and no one else. Well, maybe a sorry school administrator for not clearly explaining the law.

Best wishes to ex- Indy Coach Young, who by all indications is a role model.

We are talking about Young.

Look, I get it. People think Christians are being persecuted for practicing their faith. They are not. As the son of a preacher and a good Southern Baptist, me and JC are tight, but I never jeopardize my job because of my faith. So regardless of how many students need some kind of moral compass that might be found in the Christian faith, it is not the job of the State to help them find that compass. The court system has long established that is best left to the parents.

I know that may upset people, but my school law professor always asked us this question "what does the law say?" You cannot inject feelings when it comes to the law.

Agreed, separation of church and state make it so coaches jobs are to be role models, but not preachers. Coaching is more about making a boy into a capable young man for life than making him a good christian, or whatever anyone's own interpretation of that is.

Boy did this topic get off the track fast. Football is Football! Can we just keep the politics, morals and religion out of it. This country is divided enough! Can we at least keep football out of the conversation? SMH

ATTENTION: THIS IS NOT ABOUT PRAYING BEFORE A STUPID GAME.
Ok now, Indy and the admin(Not the AD) the reason. What happened to him was terrible and the old saying that "karma's a b****" is about to ring very true at Indy.
They fire their coach 7 days before traveling to face Tommy Knotts and Dutch Fork and the next week they head out to Scotland to play Zamir White, karma is about to hit them very hard and they will get what they so rightfully deserve.

guys unless you know both sides of the story dont pick one i know more behind the scene info on the matter but ill keep my comments to my self. I am just as shocked as everyone but there admin chose to go a different direction. We will see how things play out.

I guarantee you I know all that you do if not more. I sat and spoke with Young himself at the Carolina Preps Jamboree and a number of coaches and people across Charlotte and people in the Indy booster club with very strong ties. Trust me they deserve what they are about to get.

Who cares who knows more info? A good man lost a job that he really loves to do. It's nobody business except those involved. I know Coach Young and I'm sure he appreciates the support.

It looks like a bad situation for all parties.
