From middle to high school, my schools' scoreboards have been left side, home, right side, away or guests. It's like that for every sport. Which is why it irks my nerves to see scoreboards with the home score on the right. I know its common, but to me, it's backwards. Which way do you think is the correct way?

Home to me should be on left...and visitor on right...when Reidsville's Community stadium first opened in 1985 the scoreboard had the home team on the right....used to really irk me.....Got a new scoreboard some years ago and they got it correct (at least to me) by having home team on left...….it's kinda like arguing about which way to hang toilet paper.....lol...…………………..

Come on man. Everybody knows the tp goes under. Lol. I actually take it off the roller to unfurl it if it's over.

I agree, home has to be on the left. The scoreboard is a source for information on the game being played and is always at the home stadium. It's like the heading of a local news paper article, you want the local news headlines to start off with a local town because it is what you get the local newspaper for and it gets your attention. News you care about first.

Burns always had home on the right for as long as I can remember until 2014, then switched to home on the left, and then we got our new permanent scoreboard in 2016 which also has home on the left. I guess we got it right. It also aligns with the sides of the field. Home score is on home side, visitor score is on visitor side. It did take the scorekeeper some getting used to, though.

Honestly, I have never thought about it being home score on the home side. If the home crowd is on the right, it makes a little more sense if the home score is also on the right. Never thought of it like that. At SWE, the home crowd is on the right, but the home score is on the left, so home left is what's comfortable to me. Besides, it's home left in basketball at every level. I think that's the way it's supposed to be.

Well if you look at it that way.....Reidsville's Home side is on the same side as Visitor score on scoreboard.....lol.....very confusing.....still think Home score should be on left no matter how the stadium in configured...and btw TP should be on top, not roll under....lol...……………….

To chime in on the tp debate. Tp should be on top if for no other reason being that if you only have one free hand it gives you just enough friction to tear off the sheets you need without the whole roll spinning to the floor! Lol

Clinton’s scoreboard is on the left(home) side with the home team on the left.

It’s displayed DARK HORSES and GUEST

For football, the score should be oriented with the sidelines. The reidsville scoreboard is backwards to me.

Like I said earlier, I never looked at it as score being with the crowd before. It's a little less bothersome now. But if I had my way, it'd be like Reidsville and SWE. Home side left, no matter what.

And what is one doing where he would only have one free....oh. Nevermind

I love that TP orientation made its way into this discussion. That’s funny!

When Oak Grove’s scoreboard went up, I was kind of taken aback that the home score is on the right.

It just didn’t look right. But, all in all, I think its what you get used to.

North Davidson fans are used to looking to their right to see their scoreboard. Ledford and Oak Grove have to look left to see their scoreboards.

I do like the suggestion to put up digital boards in place of the “home and away” options . A classy look. Probably could add on fairly easily in newer scoreboards.

Just left southwest Randolph. Scoreboard is to the left sitting on home side. Has guest on left, home on right, opposite of the fans.

I guess this the same as the toilet paper argument.

SWO scoreboard is on the right of home stands. Its displayed Stallions score on left and Vistor on the right.

And for the TP minded .... I've seen the drawing that TP submitted for their patient, it shows TP ON THE TOP, that settles that debate.

And bud33345 what else are you doing that you only have 1 free hand to wipe with ???

Newton-Conover got a new scoreboard and moved it to the field house side in 2017, as my buddy told me, I was just there two weeks ago for the Burns game but the crazy thing is I didn’t even realize they had moved it til the next day when I was going through my Facebook pictures. I attended several home games when Coach Beam was there. Their home score is listed first as well.

In linescores in newspapers and graphics on TV, the home team is always listed second or on the bottom. So if you read left to right or from top to bottom, the visitors should be listed first.

As for the TP debate, who gives a crap?

First of all, I see what you did there. Secondly, when reading, since you're not at the game, you're right... the team that hosted is last. I just think that's the universal way to to tell the readers which team was at home. But actually at the game, where the scoreboard is, you know which team is the home team, so that rule doesn't apply. The owner of the house should be first. Basketball is always home first.
