I must admit that I personally didn't think that Robbinsville would go thru the SMC unbeaten again this season, and I admit that I was wrong....Dee Walsh has done a Hellava Coaching job this season, and now have the Black Knights poised to return to the Championship game if they can beat The Community School of Davidson on the road in the Western Final...

The Black Knights are certainly battle-tested as the SMC was brutal this year, and I just didn't believe that the Black Knights would be able to produce enough offense to win the SMC with both Matheson and Galaviz having graduated last year....I WAS WRONG!

Congratulations to Coach Walsh, his staff, the Black Knight fans and the Black Knight players on another remarkable season thus far, and good luck in the Western Final this coming friday!

Whether it's Robbinsville or The Community School of Davidson that will make the title game?...Keep the title in the West!

  • Rick as usual, you are spot on ... the SMC was strong top to bottom this year and it took all the Knights had to get the championship again. I confess that I was worried about how we would do without our 2014 team leaders (also our money-in-the-bank kicker, Josh Gibson), but these kids have stepped into their roles with determination. I am very happy and proud to be a Black Knight fan.
  • We truly appreciate your respectful comments. Hope we can make the SMC proud this week.

Congrats to Robbinsville. What kind of offense do they face in CSOD?

Thanks blue vols - Today in the Asheville Citizens Times, Coach Walsh said that CSOD runs a 5-2 offense and that they have been preparing for it. He also said they have 3 really good receivers and a tailback that has rushed for over 1500 yards.

Never heard of a 5-2 offense... Probably meant they run a 5-2 on defense. Not sure though.

I hadn't either, but Dee said that you don't see many teams running it anymore ... but it could have been a misprint or misquote.

BTW, # 10 did a good job on the post-game interview ... you could tell he was speaking from his heart.

almost positive he meant 5-2 defensive front. Murphy ran a 5 man front for years when Gaither was the defensive coordinator.

Been outta town a few days and haven't posted but wanted to echo Rick's comments and congratulate the Black Knights on a great season .. An wish them the best in their quest for a repeat..

I think Community School of Davidson returns a lot of the kids that we (Rosman) played against in the 1st round of the playoffs last year.

They have a good TB, and talent at the WR spots. If they have the same QB they had last year he is a decent passing threat and a threat to run on a designed play or scramble situation.

We pretty well overwhelmed them with the run game last year, and hit some big pass plays on them too. Unless their front has improved on defense, the same should happen for R'ville this year.

Black Knights by 2 TDs.

Thanks for the vote of confidence paws. Max Preps lists their QB as a senior, so I imagine he is the same one from last year - and Dee mentioned their TB and WRs in the Asheville Citizens this week, so they may be pretty much the same team you guys faced last year ... hopefully WITHOUT a whole lot of improvement, LOL.

Murphy was an outstanding 4-3 defensive team in the 90's with Gaither as DC. Good luck to Dee and theBlack Knights

Well they played two QBs against us last year, one was more of a running threat than the other, it seems like. Either way, the scouting report I think will hold true. They will be good at the skill spots (though no better than you have seen all season in the SMC...I don't think their stud TB is any better than our Gage Orr, or y'all's Milsaps kid, or Murphy's McRae, etc.) and R'ville will have their greatest advantage up front. Good luck.
