AC Reynolds High Rico Dowdle replaced RB from Hillside. If someone wasn't able to go I thought he might get in given the feedback people had that he was left off for not attending a combine. His senior year was special. Reminds me of Gatorade Player of the Year Josh Ladowski in 2014. Congrats to Dowdle. Glad I had a chance to see him play.

Over the years, those last minute replacements have shone their lights in the Shrine Bowl. Congratulations to Dowdle and here's hoping that NC wins this year.

East hendersons Michael angram made it in 2005 when ashevilles Johnny white couldn't play in it.

I'm not sure this kid has the right people handling his marketing. Fifty schools should have been called and a video sent by now. He could go about anywhere he wanted labeled athlete. Being one of only ten candidate for player of year and on the shrine bowl will get him attention but very late in the recruitment process when many skill positions have been offered. I hope the young man goes out of state to a prominent school. Hate to see him barely used like Hood at UNC.

Don't be so quick to blame his coaches for his lack of major school attention. There are other things scouts look at including grades, behavior, attitude and how a particular kid might fit into their system. If colleges aren't knocking down his door, there must be a reason unbeknownst to us. Shrine Bowl workouts draw many scouts and if Rico can play at that level then the offers will come.

Great athlete. Great to hear that he's headed to the Shrine Bowl - much deserved!

Why the hell would any school back off from him as a rb. Hes a perfect spread back. 2nd only to emmons in nc imo.

There was a time when Tuesday practices were a traffic jam of SEC and ACC head and assistant coaches. Due to NCAA regulations D2 and below can have coaches in attendance but not D1 (FCS and FBS).

If Dowdle does not have solid offers today there is a deeper issue. Does anyone know if he is qualified and cleared academically?

You mean the Hood that had 1345 yards on 206 carries and 17 TDs at UNC.....

Yes that one who got nothing last year and still featured after Marquise Williams. Notre Dame would have been a better choice for his skill and their style. Not kicking UNC just feel he could be a superstar elsewhere. It's still Logan and Williams team.

I agree it is William's team but that is a lot of the locker room dynamic. Logan is getting not getting the touches or media that Hood gets. Hood can get big yards in that O as he has shown.

If Hood has two more years like this year he leaves with 5,000 yards and leaves as an all time great there.

End of the day, Hood is in the right place if he is happy.

True if he is happy this is where he should be. Notre Dame is a national spotlight. TV exposure is huge for Notre Dame.

I guess somebody didn't watch the championship game when Herbstreet picked UNC to upset and said that Hood was one of his favs... Imj, he had PHENOMINAL year by anyone's standards (on an 11-2 team) and WILL go down as an all time great and break many of records... Seems like the perfect fit to me...

Dowdle has a great chance to showcase his ability this week. If it is a grades issue then he hopefully has put in work this semester and will give coaches more reason to offer.

It is not a grade issue. He is a really good student. I know Vanderbilt, BC and Wake Forest wouldn't offer if the grades weren't extremely good. I just think it is one of those times that a player gets overlooked for some obscure reason. The ball is rolling now though. I think with South Carolina offering, you may see some other big schools start to take a hard look.

He is nursing an injury and did not practice a few days. Most likely held out for precautionary reasons but is expected to play.

I believed he moved after his 8th grade year. He was from Gaffney I believe. I remember the first JV scrimmage I was talking to a coach from ACR and I asked about the offense and the running backs, and he pointed to Rico, who was in street clothes because he didn't have enough practices in to play yet, and he said that boy is going to be special in 4 years. I'll never forget that, and turns out he was right!
