Referee shortage a concern as high school football returns

There's nothing like the atmosphere of a high school football game on a Friday night, but making sure there are enough officials on the field each week gets harder every year.

Sadly it's going to be every sport. I wouldn't be shocked to see games that mean less and jv games with 1 or 2 less required officials before the year is over. Same for other sports.

I think it's more likely that you'll see cancellations.
That's what happened in softball and baseball.
Personally, I'm not working with less than a full crew.

Worked a middle school baseball game by myself this past spring.
Started a HS game alone. Worked two innings before partner could get there.
It’s getting tough

In NC I am thankful I always had a Partner but Here in AZ - I worked all Middle School games by myslef which like 5-6 games n I worked All Boys n girls club all by myself (Yes this Rec but most rec leagues I worked I always had a partner)

Football U gotta have a full crew bc missing 1 guy u can’t do it with 4 guys

other sports u prob get away with it but it would make it 10x harder n then fans n coaches n other 10x harder on u bc In AZ sometimes they can’t even get officals to do their middle games n they let volunteers coaches or fans do it n to me that’s crazy
