I never ever thought I would start this thread on the football board.

In Randolph County, a lot of attention will be on the ER/PG game......but.......this one might end up being the more important of the two. In fact, this could be for the #1 seed on the 2A side. Both teams have dynamic players that will give the other fits.

Any thoughts? I'm actually going to take SW by 7.

I’ll go….a 3 way tie requiring a drawing of the straws between PG, SWR and orange/blue.

Y’all ain’t gonna believe this…but it reminds me of a story😂😂😂

Well the fighting Baxters will be at home…
I’m going with them because I don’t have a problem calling them by their given name
SWR by 3?

So now with my history in predicting scores orange/blue will put a running clock on the Cougars…

Coach showed up to the drawing in a 3 way tie and said….if it’s alright with y’all…I’ll take the number 2…..and y’all can draw for 1 and 3…

Can’t remember the year…maybe when Grizz was playing.

Coach got that #2 though.
My senior year. CVAC 2A/3A conference.

We beat Newton. Newton beat Hickory. Hickory beat Maiden.

We took #2. Newton drew #1 and we had to go to Newton in the playoffs...lucky enough to say I beat Newton twice in one year 🤣

Can’t help but chuckle…I was calling ER the fighting baptists not long ago. 😜

What’s the fighting Baxters all about?

Ya know…you had a bad feeling before the PG game last week…had you seen Randleman play?…are they getting better?
I had seen Randleman play twice before last week. They're not world beaters but......they are a little better than some give them credit for. Their best player on defense is supposed to be coming back soon (if not already). They've got two weapons on offense that are hard to stop.

I believe the days of drawing are over from breaking three-way ties but instead the state will use the RPI ranking....whoever is highest will get seeded as a conference champion and the other two would get seeded with the wild cards

Baxter is an Anglo-Saxon and Scottish name, originally from the English occupational surname meaning "baker,"from the early Middle English bakstere and the Old English bæcere. The form Bakster was originally feminine, with Baker as the masculine equivalent, but over time both names came to apply to both men and women.
Maybe some “home cooking”. Save me a cookie.

That's very interesting. Scottish huh........that explains the red hair. For some odd reason, I thought Baxter was a Lumbee surname.

Ok here’s the Reader’s Digest version (since Chute has lain this at my non eloquent feet). Donnie Baxter, a member of NCHSAA HOF, has been HC at a few stops, including Eastern Randolph. He was actually baseball HC for a few years in addition to football. Baseball team finished second in 3A in 1981, despite having a gangly long haired shortstop 😀. Then football team won state two years later, led by Alan Hooker whose son some of you will watch Saturday in Alabama/Tennessee game.
Anyway Donnie’s son, Seth, grows up to become HC at ER in both basketball and football. His father would aid him as an assistant in basketball and offensive coordinator in football. Well as happens sometimes, a certain vocal group became disenchanted with the Baxter duo despite quite a bit of success in both sports, albeit never finishing with a coveted SC. Seth became HC at Southwestern Randolph, accompanied by his father. Hence my reference to the fighting Baxters…
Two things: if that’s the condensed version just dang…
And also my use of acronyms was impressive wasn’t it? 😂😂😂

Who won the '81 baseball championship since ER came in second, with that long haired dude playing shortstop for ER ?
P.S. I was " seeing " a Gastonia gal that had a cousin that played for Cherryville's Legion team and had the pleasure of watching Eastern Randolph Post 81 American Legion team vs. Cherryville in 1981, but most of my attenton was on her tanned legs that went from here to yonder.

South Point 🤬🤬
Same long haired dude was playing third on that Legion team…
And may have been distracted by same set of legs..
Yeah that’s why we lost to Cherryville 😂😂

I can understand the distraction, Mister Kidd. Who all did you beat to reach that point in the playoffs ?
Don’t take this wrong but Legion ball I cannot remember at all. Except for Mr Fortenberry from Cherryville it’s all a blur. We raised tobacco and I would get up, prime a barn, ride on a bus, play baseball until 10-11, ride back home at around 1-2AM, then rinse and repeat.
High school, if my old brain can remember correctly, we were lucky enough to outlast Southeast Guilford, Oxford Webb and Roanoke Rapids (on a walk off grand slam with long haired dude on deck).
Played baseball from February until mid August that year and started freshman year at Carolina like a day or two after losing to Cherryville…
Those were fun times…

And despite the ramblings of an old has been, slightly senile, former athlete this thread has wound its way down the page slowly but steadily…
Here’s a bump for the fighting Baxters 👊

Wait a minute.....wait a minute......I meant to say SW would only score seven.

Not going to Cherokee this week. That's for sure.
