Great high school football season across the state of North Carolina. I'm sure that many of us are already missing it. In the meantime, scratch your post season itch, and watch the junior season highlights of the Shelby General, quarterback Malik Sarratt. Big offseason coming up, then it's "The Strive for Five.

Great highlights. Who do you think are the starting receivers next year?

Maleek McMullens
Jhalen Cannon
Fabian Pettis
MJ Allen/Deuce Eaves/Cherry

I hear this Cherry kid from the JV is impressive, too, tall and fast, he will be in the mix. Eaves missed last season, but I was really impressed with him his freshman season. Receiver is going to have some battles in the preseason. Brooks returns, and he's an excellent receiver out of the backfield. McMullens could play tight end, though, it's been speculated that we will implement that position this upcoming season.

We lost some really good seniors but a lot of young talent on the way. Pettis has a lot of speed.
Yes, Pettis is super athletic. He and Allen both are burners. I like our chances again, got to get the trenches together, though, offensively and defensively. Well, we're actually good, defensively. I'm sure blkgolddynasty will have his boy, a sophomore this past season and jv call up, ready to compete for an O line position next season.

Several years ago the Pettis kid single handedly beat our UC midget team. Kid was just a freak athletically . I asked him where he would go to high school he said Shelby! I said then watch this kid he will be special... he will be a flat out burner at receiver ..

Great highlights LA your son is not only very gifted athletically but in classroom as well . That's awesome and I know you are proud my friend

Borders took Pettis under his wing this season, he'd really work w/ him in practice, basically became a big brother to him. The young man will become a player.

I don't see a major drop-off on either side of the ball either. Pettis & Co. know this is their time to shine and I know they will do well. As far as my son I am proud of his effort, but he hasn't tapped into his potential yet. He still can't believe he is getting a ring. I told him he will have to step it up next season and it all starts in that field house in January. Malik and Dax will lead the Golden Lions to #5.

Maleek McMullens, Jhalen Cannon, Fabian Pettis, MJ Allen, & Cherry will all be quality receivers. Saw Pettis, Allen, and Cherry on JVs last year. I was impressed with all of them. With Brooks back and Sarratt at quarterback and the defense it should be another fun year.

Good luck to your son next year and I hope he works hard in the off season. In todays football world it has become a year round sport.

Thanks. I appreciate that. Funny you mentioned year round. He is getting ready to get a full dose next week. He told me before the playoffs football was going to be his main focus going forward. I know what it takes to put on that Old Gold helmet and so did my brother. To have him buy in is a good feeling for a dad. He is the blindside protection. I told him I would provide him any resources available for him to excel. We have talked about the competition on our schedule from JV up. He will be ready.
