2-1 Providence will take on 3-1 Charlotte Catholic. Will Providence have anything for Catholic.

Was at the game last night. Great game for spectators, especially the 4th quarter. Coaches, on the other hand, had to be going nuts. A sloppy game for both teams and each will have a lot to learn in film sessions from this game.

Providence had some opportunities but untimely mistakes, 4 picks including a pick 6, were pretty much their undoing. Quarterback, Bebe, is just a sophomore. Showed flashes of brilliance at times and will only get better. Teams will not look forward to playing against him for two more years. Providence disguised their defenses well and played a guessing game with numbers in the box. Kept Catholics' running game in check most of the game. They let their cornerback, No. 2, go on an island with Larsen most of the game which I thought was a little brave. However, he had a pretty good game. Gave up some receptions and broke up a few, with no big plays. They are a much improved team versus previous years.

Catholic was down a few starters on both sides of the ball. Could not get the running game untracked other than an early drive and the one at the end of the game. Had more passing than rushing yards which is an historically rare event. Untimely mistakes and penalties in critical spots. Gave up a pick six and a couple of untimely showboating penalties hurt badly in key situations. Defense made some big plays (sacks, pressures, picks) and gave up a few (two long TD passes). Catholic did just enough to win but could have easily lost this game.

I felt the refs had a worse game. Some really questionable calls but at least they were consistent. Both sides were victimized several times. In a perverse way, it balanced out. Added to the drama.

Both teams will find out where they truly are next week. Providence takes on Butler and will get the ultimate test as Butler is playing as well as anyone in the state right now. Catholic takes on Independence. Five weeks in and both teams are still trying to establish their identity. Independence has an off week and extra time to prepare. Game may be for a playoff spot and both teams still have to face Butler. Game is at Catholic, a big advantage to them. Would rate it as a tossup based on what I have seen thus far.

Is Catholic still playing the same style offense or have they change up any on the offense.

Catholic still runs a wing-T but has also added a gun series and will spread the field. In the past they were 90-10 or 80-20 run to pass when Brodowicz opened it up a little. Now play mix is more like 50-50 and the yardage is split about the same. In some ways they are more predictable. In the wing-T they are 90-10 run and in the gun they are 90-10 pass. In the past, a passing down and distance was 2nd and 1. Play action and take a shot. Today, they are more effective throwing the ball when they have to throw it. Some is the same. Some is not.
