Saw where Princeton was requesting to reclassify to 1A. Do not understand why they would make that request. Seems to be doing well in 2A.

Travel? IDK. Since they just got that nice new turf field I doubt money is the issue. Guess WRH would be main reason.
Yep. They know deep down they can’t compete for titles. Even if they make it out east they then have to beat the west winner. Which will be Shelby,Reidsville, Burns, Maiden, East Surry,Monroe, etc. stacked field in west but in east you may have 2 or 3 team that can contend. WRH NE ED for most part

East Bladen request to reclassify as 1A was granted. I think Wallace also requested to reclassify, but was denied.

Everybody wants the easy lane in the mini bug league full of JV squads.

It's too tough in the tiny titan league full of mighty mice

Run from one bully and straight into another? Better off trying to move up, because they aren't getting past Tarboro either. Although Tarboro needs to move up themselves.

I'm hoping when the next realignment happens we go to 2a. It could happen if we add two classifications. Our conference next year is gonna be awful aside from Riverside. Adding hobgood is a joke. Edenton tried to come and join our conference. But nchsaa really turned them down and put hobgood in our conference 🤦🤦

I still don't get that. They should make a conference with Hobgood, NECP, Rocky Mount Prep, Bear Grass, and Columbia. Throw NW Halifax in there too.

Its not about travel. Not even about who they have to play per se. They're not scared of Wallace. They beat East Duplin every time they've played them in the last 3-5 years (however far back it goes). ED wouldn't agree to play Princeton any more after this year. Not sure why. It is all about fairness. Princeton is close in size to Rose Hill. Except Rose Hill has about 500 more population. It is a small school with low average daily enrollment. They wouldn't have had any trouble beating Tarboro this year or the past 4 years. If they still did the split class championships, they may have won a couple of 2A (not 2AA) championships. I think they for sure would've won 1A the last 2-3 years. Princeton has about 1,000 students between 6 and 12th grade. 6-8 is probably 450-500 of that. They have contended well in 2A. #1 seed the last 2 years. That's pretty strong considering who has competed in the 2A east. Nobody gave them a chance going into 2A play. They've had a talented group with size and speed the last 4 years. This graduating class is losing a lot, but they will be conference champions still, just not as deep a playoff team in my opinion. There are other sports to consider as well. It's just not a very populated area. Has always been a traditional 1A school. Most years not a big 1A school in terms of class sizes. Why they are expected to play schools with 700-900 kids doesn't make sense. And how is reidsville a 2A school in a city of 16,000 plus people? Or Shelby? Burns? Princeton is a legit 1A school no matter how you slice it. They beat Rosewood High 45-32. They have about 600 students. Tarboro beat Rosewood to go to the state championship in the eastern 1A finals. I know it's not apples to apples, but Princeton's JV beat Tarboro's JV handily year before last. Don't recall the score. There are Princeton folks that don't like the idea of dropping back down to 1A. There's a reason why they aren't 3A. Theres plenty of justification for why they shouldn't be 2A. It's not like they've dominated 2A. Haven't played in a 2A state championship. But the NCHSAA doesn't mind Shelby or Reidsville dominating 2A. Huge double standard.

Saying they would had no trouble beating Tarboro for the past four years is a bold statement

Parity is definitely needed in 1a east
Either move Tarboro up or move somebody down to play them
If they would go to 6 classifications that would probably move some schools down from 2A which would be great. If some of the other 1A schools had better coaching and work ethics maybe it wouldn’t be a problem anyway

This was probably Princeton's weakest year in the last 3-4 yrs. Defensively. Not offensively. I don't think Tarbur could've stopped them. Just like ED game, neither team could stop the other and Princeton had more HP on offense (a tad). Princeton's D was better last year.

Yes Princetons defense was not as good as last year and neither was offense against WRH. Last years Princeton o line was stronger, definitely meaner.

That's what was told. Wouldn't agree to play anymore. If you know, shed some light. I know they're not scheduled. May have been premature.
No they are not on the schedule but it's not because ED would not agree to play them and I will leave it at that

Contrary to popular belief on this board, there are many factors why schools would want to change classification and not reschedule teams again. I doubt Princeton wanted to reclassify to avoid WRH (or anyone else for that matter). And I wouldn't be surprised if ED decided not to play Princeton again but it's obviously not because they are scared of them. In the past, we have dropped schools for reasons like the lack of gate they bring in or conflicts with the available week we would be scheduled to play. We once had to drop Southwest Onslow in order to keep JK on our non-conference schedule. Sometimes it's logistics. I know when I coached and we dropped down to 1AA, we wanted to move back to 2A because we missed our conference, the rivalries and the gate those games brought in. Very few coaches avoid teams due to competition.

When Jk and Wallace were 1a Tarboro couldn't get to the championship game. In the 4yrs JK beat them twice and Wallace beat them twice. Both won one on the road at Tarboro and both won one at home. Tarboro did beat JK in the year where Jk's qb got hurt, but would eventually lose to Wallace that year. Something about that Duplin county football that some good teams fall short. Ijs
