WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The New Hanover High School community is mourning the loss of one of their students.
New Hanover High School junior running back Rachone Johnson died Saturday night, according to spokesperson Valita Quattlebaum.
According to NHHS Principal James McAdams, the school held a moment of silence Monday morning to honor Johnson.
James also said the crisis management team is at the school today for both students and faculty members.
Linda Rawley, a spokesperson with the Wilmington Police Department, said that foul play is not suspected in the student's death.
A twitter account for the New Hanover High football team tweeted Sunday morning, "Sad, sad day for NHHS football. RIP #17 More details to come later."
School officials said vigils and memorial services for the football player are in the works.
