What is the area looking like? Will East Surry and E Wilkes repeat? The both are capable. Will Starmount improve over last year? How is Mt Airy looking and Walkertown? Who are the top players to watch. Is it true the RB from N Wilkes is at W Central now? What is everyone's thoughts?

Okay fellas I'll post a small prediction

MVC- I think their is defintley 2 tiers to this conference with EW/Ashe/Starmount/WC in the upper-tier - all teams capable of beating eachother and on the bottom tier, is rounded out by Alleghany/WW/Elkin/NW.

1. EW - the surprise team returns some talent and had an undefeated jv team. they must replace a lot of their backfield and some key defense positions but they are puting in the work. How will they replace Bryan and the other back?

2. Starmount - the Rams will be back in contention for the crown. they lose their play maker and who i though was the 2nd best player in the conference in prescott but eads is a stud. the rams again will be a smart and fundamental football team that is strong in all phases. coud easily see them winning the conference.

3. Ashe - the areal assault of the Huskies took a step back in 2015 but there is plenty of talent left in the well to compete and win a conference championship. continuity and familiarization with the system should allow them to continue their success. Ashe lost some big pieces but return some studs. they can put points up in a hurry and this is certainly not a team to overlook. Could see this team winning the conference as well.

4. WC - until they figure out their defensive issues, they will fly and flutter. this team is exciting to watch. they lose bynum to graduation and im not sure you can replace that, i did hear the boles kid will be playing for them this season which makes things interesting. they also lose a pretty good qb. a lot of talent and speed but i feel like they leave somethings to be desired at times. darkhorse team for sure.

5. Alleghany - shocker. the Trojans are talented and they return nearly their entire team from last season. this will be the most improved team but im not quite sure if they are ready to compete with the big boys just yet. a year a way.

6. West Wilkes - i think this team has a lot of potential. they have a good qb ready to take over and some pieces around him including some big hogs on the lines. west is primed for a breakout year eventually. i think they could make a little noise if things go their way. definetley a team to keep an eye on.

7. Elkin - The Elks have some young talent. Also a team that very well could finish much higher. im no expert. they dont have much depth, if any, so one or 2 injuries could derail their entire season. Another fun team to watch with a lot of tradition and pride. The Elks will be a factor again in the future but I don't think this is that year.

8. NW - The Vikings have a lot of work to do to clime out of the cellar. if its true they lost Boles to WC that is a devastating loss as he was one of the best backs around.

Not bad Ill. My few thoughts:

-Agreed for #1. East Wilkes won last year and should be the early favorites until someone else knocks them off. As long as Adkins stays there and the enthusiasm is up they should be in the hunt every year. They have a couple solid years ahead of them due to their JV teams. One thing detrimental to them is that only once has East Wilkes in it's history followed up a winning year with another one, 89 and 90 so if it happens it will be unusual.

-Starmount will be a ? mark because I don't know much about them but with the coaches they have they will always be solid. They haven't had a loosing season in 10 years due to that. They should be in the top 4.

-Ashe will be interesting but I think they will play well in the conference. They loose McNeil and some of their lineman so that will be what they will focus on. They should be in the hunt though.

-Central always has athletes it just depends on what else they have around and in-between them. Their D has to get better no doubts there. If not they will continue to give up a lot a game and their O will have to perform much more than needed. They loose their spark with Bynum but if Boles shows up they will be the same if not a little better on offense. Boles has potential to be a solid RB if he ever gets over his attitude; he was great when we played North Wilkes on JV that one year.

If they get all the pieces fixed they could go for the title or finish in the top 4 if not who knows.

-West Wilkes is the true ? mark in my opinion of the conference. 2 years ago they had an awesome JV team and many expected them to be in the hunt last year. They improved but not as much as a lot of folks thought. They did have that epic comeback win on North Iredell and made the playoffs but they didn't make it to the point many thought so. This year will be key to see if it will happen or not for both the talent and the coach. West Wilkes always does best when people overlook them so if that happens they can shock come late in the year.

-Alleghany will be better but I agree they still aren't there yet. Sessoms always gets a lot out of his team so I expect that to continue. They may surprise someone.

-Elkin's another ? mark. They lose what quality seniors they had and will be younger next year. They had a really solid sophomore class last year but time will tell how solid they are. I think they will either be down a little more or better in some era's. Their D was the weakpoint as well as the team #'s. I think they will beat North Wilkes again or Alleghany and avoid the cellar.

-Then there's North Wilkes. On the bright side they have probably their most solid head coach they have had in ages, he can get more out of them than any other coach they had since the 90's. Talent wise they had a couple decent JV teams the last two years downside is they lost that RB who was the program's star. If the replacement RB has a better year and the lineman get better they can compete. They made an awful lot of mistakes that kept them out of games last year plus they couldn't score had to keep changing offenses. Went from the wing to the I to the shotgun. I think they will be better this year, how much not sure. Not as much as they should be though.

Northwest wise it's a little easier.

The top 3 will be East, MA, and Walkertown again as for who wins it will be a tossup. It will be Walkertown's last year in the conference so I see them going all out trying to win it but they have got to overcome those two to do it.

The battle for 4th place will be interesting. I see it being either Prep or Bishop. North Stokes will probably be down a little bit because they loose some good seniors but I expect them to play hard again. Then Atkins.

According to their profile page, Boles is indeed at Central. Still think East Starmount and Ashe are ahead of them.

my view: both ES and Walkertown lost a lot of seniors especially at the skill positions...plus one of Walkertowns top players headed to Carver...MA returns a lot...must be better on O this year....struggled last year and that put pressure on the defense, who stayed on the field a lot at seasons end..return one of the top kickers in 1A & state...WS Prep will be improved...JV wasn't bad...N Stokes has some good players coming in so it may be a couple of years for them...Bishop will return a few decent skill players but must get better on D..Atkins can only go up...as for picking a winner, it's ES's to lose..they played a lot of underclass men last year and that should help them..MA, again, has a lot coming back but can't be one dimensional on offense...Walkertown will be right there in their last appearance as a 1A team...after that flip a coin

ES will be ok. Weight room has been almost full everyday since they started lifting and everyone is looking forward to spring practice to start this week. We lost some very good seniors to say the least, however do not look past or sleep on the guys coming up. The Sheets kid playing QB will be outstanding, if they let him play both sides of the ball he will knock ya tail out on defense and he brings that mentality to the offensive side of the ball too. All the guys are talking about how they cant wait to get started and get back on the field. I don't know what everyone else might have and it's still too early for it to matter. All we can do is work harder than everyone else and let the chips fall where they may. Championships are won now, when no one is watching....
