Northeastern/JH Rose

Yes, we have a damn good quarterback. Got a chance to meet his mother tonight and she was awesome. So proud to have this kid leading our team, he's a winner

Strong performance by NE especially in the second half. It was a tale of 2 halves really, first half was a QB battle/shootout with both QBs playing about even and tossing it all over the yard. NE lost there RDE in Keveon Freshwater at the middle of the second quarter. Rose took notice and pounded the ball to that side with the inexperienced DE unable to seal the edge and keep the Rose RB from catching the corner for big yards. That was the point Rose was able to pull away. Coach Moore made an adjustment that was very savvy and gave his DE (who was struggling) some LB help to his side to seal off the Rose rushing attack. In the second half NE just man handled Rose and pounded the ball right into the heart of the Rose defense. Rose had no answer and took a beating in the trenches in effect showing NE's dominance and physicality in the run game. NE started slow but I think it was more to the fact that coach Moore tries to see what Rose's gameplan was going to be and adjusted accordingly. I dont think being in a QB shootout was the original gameplan but NE did just that surprisingly to keep the score close till he could adjust his defense. He had to scramble to find a answer once Freshwater was out of the game. Once he did Rose had nothing. All in all I was impressed by NE's performance they showed they can be a high octane passing offense or if the gameplan dictates a ground and pound down your throat kind of team. My 3 stars of the game: *** NE QB he showed he can sling with the best of them tonight. He has made alot of progress since the Conley game. If my notes are right, he posted 5 TDs. 4 passing and 1 running for about 400 total yards.THIS IS INSANE! ** lil WR #8 for NE he had a fantastic game 2 long TD catches that I remember. * RB #10 for NE he single handedly pounded Rose into ashes in the second half. He is big, physical and cannot be fun trying to tackle late in the game. He is a game killer and takes away teams will to want to win.

Make no mistake, that was a very good Rose team tonight. They will be a tough out in the 3A playoffs. NE has played 2 very tough opponents in this state and even one out of state. It doesnt get any easier from here with Rocky Mount, Holmes, and Havelock coming up. I know WRH fans have a good team, no question they are. But they haven't been tested like NE has so far this season...period. Maybe when they play Havelock we can gauge just how good they are? But even Havelock there is a question on how good they really are? Maybe Havelock is sputtering a bit out of the gate? Beating a weak Panther Creek team doesnt make me a believer. Then there is WF so WRH will get their chance to prove it. NE has beat 3 teams that normally dont get pushed around the way NE has pushed them around. Conley's record doesnt show how good they are. Their non confrence schedule has been brutal as well with the Scots coming to Pitt County. They could easily be 0-3 and still win their tough conference. What NE has done so far is impressive. Let's see if NE can keep it going.

Holden Hodge #8, Jerron Hinton #7, we're unstoppable tonight. Our qb looked like a star. His passes were dead nuts on point. He was hitting #8 in stride all night long
What makes this even more impressive is that this was only his 3rd game qb'n for our Eagles. #8 for NE caught every pass but one and a lot of them with a player draped all over his tiny frame. The kid is only like 5'8 and has a knack for catching the ball. This NE team is a far cry from the team that played Conley in wk one. Coach Moore deserves a ton of credit. He did a remarkable coaching job.

Ok, I thought his number was #18. But anyway, the Hodge kid gets the second star

For me it's the versatility they showed on offense. When you know you have a QB that can throw for 300 yards a game when needed, much less 300 yards in the first half, then can totally change the identity of the offense to a smashmouth running team mid-game! In the same game! That's some scary sheet right there! No matter what level of football you play in!

He will be WITN's player of the week next week. Remember his mom showed us the trophy.

What happened to Freshwater??

Some sort of ankle injury. He had it iced down and was limping around. Hopefully it's just a sprain and will be back in a week or 2.

Havelock isn't down. I know some believe they are judging by the New Bern game but trust me, they aren't. The game this Friday against WRH will be a beaut.

Don't misunderstand. I'm not bashing Havelock on New Bern beating them. Im well aware that New Bern is legit and Nowell has intentions of doing big things this season as we have discussed. We also talked earlier about how Havelock looked in the preseason most notably the Tarboro jamboree. In my opinion, they just didn't look like the same team from a year ago. I have felt ever since Wooten took the job it would take about 3 to 4 games to settle in. I still have no doubt Wooten will get them on track this season. I just dont think he is there yet with this team. A win at Panther Creek is a start but not the determining factor that Havelock is Havelock. Maybe in the next couple games. I agree the WRH game will tell alot where both those teams stand. Both teams will have something to prove.

Highlights:
If anyone out there questions how good our young qb is all they have to do is watch this video and see how accurate he was on almost all his passes. He has improved so much in three games. Add in the 4* rb whose family is relocating to Elizabeth City first of the year and we are going to loaded for next yr as well.

Just curious why is everyone assuming NE will host the eastern championship? Wrh and maybe Clinton will def have something to say about that. Clinton depends on where they are put (a or aa)

Yep could be any of those three. But maxpreps strength of schedule may help them. Northeastern still has Rocky Mount, Edenton and Havelock in non conference. Geesh!!

Good question! I'm thinking we may not win WF game and Northeastern has a good shot at not losing. If I'm wrong about Friday's game at Havelock and the Rams gives us a close game, then I think they could beat Northeastern. Still not sold on goobs team yet. I do think our dogs defense is better than Northeastern's. But, Northeastern d plays with a lot of emotion and can make big plays

You haven't seen that prediction from any Northeastern poster on this site, I can promise you that!! Clinton,Kinston, and WRH may all be ahead of Northeastern come playoff time. So please understand that none of us from Elizabeth City are saying that. Best of luck to the Dogs against Havelock!!

I for one, am not sold on Northeastern's 3 big wins. Virginia's"best" team,we don't really know how that stack up against NC teams. J H Rose hasn't been all that the last few years. And Conley? I do think Northeastern has the athletes to be top seed in East. They have to improve a lot before they can beat WRH. Clinton going to be in the mix also. They play real good in the DogPound

We will see trust me at the end of the day we all going to have to see each other WRH and Clinton am not worrying about Kinston I think we beat them 50 to 0 in the third of the fourth round of the playoffs last year but that was last and I like this team better than last year so we will see

Maybe you dog fans can help me out? Of the opponents the dogs have had so far this season which game film do I need to watch that truly shows how good WRH's defense is this year? Seriously it's a head scratcher. If you guys say SWO I guess we are assuming they win their first game Friday and become this offensive juggernaut against East Duplin? I get SWO had two tough opponents out the gate but they only scored COUNT THEM 1 and only 1 TD in 2 games giving them 3.5 points a game. That TD came against you guys and I hear it wasnt even on offense? I mean, East Duplin was able to drop 17 on JAX at least.

Just did some research on Indian River. Oscar Smith VA beat West Forsyth by 2tds last year and Indian River beat Oscar Smith by 2tds last year. Don’t mean much but just a gauge on program quality
