Next head football coach at Montgomery Central

He should definitely be front runner, as long as a certain individual doesn’t come into the equation. I haven’t heard anything but I’m assuming they have to be getting close.

Saw on a social media post where Hinson did not get the job. People were not to happy. I have no idea now who possibly got the position.

Montgomery County Schools has a board meeting next Monday night (2/3). Hopefully, a successor to Coach Metzger will be named.

If pay is same as Metzger, no way he turned it down. If he isn’t the guy my guess would be in house hire Carpenter or Fayetteville State coach.

Yep, in house hire. Has coached under Dave Doeren at NC State, Pinecrest and Montgomery Central. I had a feeling they would go this route

Also with this hire I feel he can get some coaches back that have left last few years. Many that have helped lead teams to deep playoff runs and State Championship games. Community guys that know football

I’m hoping the best for Montgomery Central. It’s really kind of becoming a place where “you can’t win here”. And no, this past year’s schedule full of terrible non-conference opponents does not mean that they are headed in the right direction.

Does the school administration want to win? Recently heard they cut the paid coaching staff by 4 coaches for the young new coach. Definitely not a show of support from the powers that be!!!

I have no internal knowledge of what is going on at MC. I have only heard rumors that the current administration does not put a high priority on finding and/or retaining quality coaching. If that is indeed the case, I find it odd that the county administration would support that. They've spent a ton of money making a pretty high quality athletic complex that is currently inhabited by a plethora of below-average teams.

It will eventually come together. Not sure if the big money donors are still involved or not but we shall see. I think you learn from hiring big names and getting little results. Tom Knotts had to be given a shot to be what he is, so with Coach Carp I think we should be patient. Schools may be trying to poach him in a few years, that’s when our deep pocket donors need to flex their muscles. If we get our talented coaches to come back that are right here in the County, things change at Montgomery Central, trust me.

Looks like Western Harnett is flopping harder than a pancake on a Sunday morning, while Southern Lee is just skating by like it's a 50/50 lottery draw - can’t lose that way! Montgomery Central might just grab some W’s, especially with those four non-conference games, because we all know a good BBQ can boost a team’s spirits! Just have to avoid those road trips like my grandma avoids the speed limit – all kinds of chaos await at Seaforth and friends! The county deciding to mix it all up is like putting hot sauce on ice cream – we all stare in confusion, wondering what on Earth they were thinking!

The conference is ideal for the future and immediate improvement. They should be able to show up to 3 wins and maybe 4 depending on a smidge of game planning and coaching. If the personnel improves at Ledford, Coach Doby will have them ready. MoCo will not be ready for CD, and Randleman even with a coaching change will be a loss. The non conference scheduling will be crucial.
On the other side of things, a previous poster mentioned the big money donors. It was very apparent the previous coach lost the community and the money donors. One name that was mentioned for the job would have been an immediate fix to that problem but the administration went in a different direction. I’m not sure the hiring of the previous coaches protégé signals a big change in the future, but time will tell. Good luck to coach Carp.
As I stated before in a previous post the county administration cut the number of paid assistants from 10 to 6 following their hire. With that being true I don’t feel the county administration really cares much about the future of the program. Finally, there seems to be multiple issues within the school. Look at the record of basketball and the mismanagement of a fight that broke out between their own players and coaches recently.

Yeah not hiring BH was surprising but we shall see. During WM’s solid run before merger they did it with local volunteer coaches from within County. That’s what has been missing since East/West combined. I throw my support on the getting Elbert back on the sidelines, still here in the County but not in school system. Got to get back to what made MoCo football successful and it wasn’t hiring big name coaches.

MOCO has the mix to be successful in football. E/W Mont both had good athletes every year and big lineman. What are the major issues with the merger and why are the teams not performing? Has the talent like the Capel kids dried out?

For one, they are on their 3rd or 4th Principal. From what I’ve heard the current one is something special. Leadership needs to let coaches coach and if they aren’t happy with their progress replace them. As far as talent, I doubt any Capel’s walking hallway but if so they aren’t playing FB. It will take a Nick Eddins type coach to change that program imo. Baseball just got a new coach and I’ve heard nothing but good things. Softball can’t keep a coach and as far as BB I have no clue. I would suspect discipline.
