Well well well... It's that time again. Ledford finally beat North last year after 12 years and won the conference. North got revenge and kicked butt in the East Regional Title to bring the Old North vs Old Ledford record to 44-5-1 and get the last laugh.

None of that matters now. New North and New Ledford are 0-0 against each other. Ledford has the better D, North has the better O.

North has to contain Lackey and Ledfords glorified single wing offense, and also Lackey when he goes out to receiver and they bring the backup qb in.

Ledford has to contain the North passing game and not let the ND receivers get behind them. Also the ND backs have enough speed to break it against Ledford in the running game. Jenkins can simulate Lackey in practice, Lackey on the other hand can't simulate Jenkins.

If I were Vegas I would have an even betting line. No favorite, both teams have the same record overall and in conference. The winner is guaranteed a playoff spot. The loser has to hope their adjusted ranking is high enough to get an at-large bid.

Too bad the game is at Ledford so parking will be awful...

Thoughts?

I really like the way you described things as old vs new. It really is true.

My money is on Ledford, as much as I hate to say it. Lackey is so talented and so versatile.
Now, if they line up with him as a receiver, North had better do a better job than Oak Grove did. Everyone knew it was going to Lackey, but no one could stop it.

But, if North can establish their passing game, then it might be a different ball game than I expect.

and Ledford’s parking is the SUCK. I’ve parked a real live mile and a half away from the stadium before.
Best bet is to get there early and park in the Fox Lot (behind the visitors stands). Easy in and out, if the gate is open. It’s worth paying to park there for sure.

Those visitor's bleachers are worse than the parking.

Truth. They should cut the admission price in half for having to risk you life on those bleachers. I always picture that concrete monstrosity crumbling into a heap when I sit there.

Visitors seating will be even more of a challenge this Friday. Due to OSHA issues that will not allow any coaches on top of the pressbox, two radio crews and North Davidson assistants/film crews will all be in the visitor stands.

That reminds me of the playoff game versus these two last year... Televised game, Knights Network, and a few other groups up in that weird middle portion of the away bleachers (I hesitate to even call them bleachers) Were the coaches on on the away side during that game too? I can’t remember.

The best thing that could have happened to that seating would for it all to have burned to the ground back when that fire happened a while back. I guess concrete doesn’t burn all that well, or it would have. Lol

But Ledford has no desire to spend money on that mess. Rarely does it ever fill up, and when it does, it doesn’t affect them. I watched a game on the home side back in 2015, on the grass hill next to their seating.

I usually watch from the grass hill myself. Even when I get there early it's not early enough to find a seat on that monstrosity.

The money required to upgrade the old bleachers at Ledford visitor side, Ledford Middle and East Davidson visitor side is something the county isn’t willing to do. They want the boosters to raise all the money to do the upgrades and the county gets the benefit of owning upgraded property with no cost associated with the upgrades. Thomasville’s stadium is in dire need of repairs on the visitor side but the cost is too much. So the city closed off the sections until they can figure it out.

The fix for Thomasville is estimated at $485,000. With Thomasville High School and East Davidson both inside Thomasville’s city limits, there simply is no way to justify spending all taxpayers’ money to fix something for a city system that has less than half of the students in the city. Wouldn’t be fair to those taxpayers outside the city school district.
Another casualty of the ridiculous district lines freeze the state legislature enacted in 1983. And for those who want to state the obvious, the city school system, by statute, can’t pay for the fix, or even participate financially for it. A problem without a solution.

Cushwa's seating is still 1000% better than Ledford's. At least there is enough room from row to row to not have someone sitting on your feet, and there is enough seating, even with the blocked off sections, to get a seat without getting there at 6:00.

You’re absolutely right. Unfortunately, the failing concrete at Cushwa will continue gradually over the years. Structural engineers have determined that the bleachers will eventually be unusable.

Cushwa’s visitor side is at least built correctly although crumbling. I’m not sure how the visitor side at Ledford was ever built because they don’t make any sense - too tall row-to-row and too narrow front-to-back. ED’s are just a mish-mash of different eras/types, although I could be wrong since I’ve not actually ever sat in those bleachers.

That's a shame. Hopefully someone will find the funds to fix it, but I expect bureaucracy will keep it from happening until it becomes a real crisis.

The only bureaucracy involved in this one happened in 1983 when the state legislature created a situation where one city is divided into two school districts.

The current lines drawn have created socioeconomic inequities between TCS and the County Schools and needs to be addressed. Old Tville Road (ED), Albertson Road (LHS) and Colonial Village (ED) neighborhoods should be attending Thomasville City Schools. We need a politician that will take a stand and fight for change to get an outdated law from the 1980's updated or re-written to make things more equitable for the kids and families that attend TCS. Put those neighborhoods in THS and they suddenly have 800-900 kids and ED/LHS don't lose enough to go below 800-900.

PrepfanNC maybe the school board could look into funding such projects? I’ve heard you may know someone... or is “daddy’s money” as they are saying, all gone from OG project? The liability of Ledford bleachers has to be worth the cost ? Or the OSHA denied Ledford pressbox? Curious for your “inside opinion”

I’ll write a better response to this after work. It’s a good question that you pose.

basically there isn’t enough money in the pot to fix everything wrong with dcs facilities. And fixing ball fields isn’t high up in the list of things when there are over 100 million dollars of roof to be fixed. You fix one set of bleachers and everyone else will have their hand out too. Fair enough. But not with dcs level of funding. As for OG. There isn’t left over money from that project. Any money would have gone to cover the debt service that remains.

It would take unanimous agreement among Representatives Jarvis and Potts, and Senator Gallimore. Political suicide because of the effect it would have on homes that are currently in the county district.
One, they would then have to pay the city school supplement, currently at twenty cents per $100 of valuation.
Two, their kids would have to change schools.
Three, their perception would be that it devalues the appraised value of their homes.
Four, the county system would fight the significant loss of the ADM funds. That’s what started this whole mess thirty-six years ago.

It’s the right thing to do, but not popular in many quarters. It’s easier for everyone to ignore it and stay status quo. Until it changes, it’s hard to justify spending money from county schools taxpayers on a stadium that they don’t use or need. The city government can’t mandate where the schools spend the supplement, nor can the schools contribute to the stadium infrastructure cost.

A more viable solution would be for the county commissioners to approve the funds. But I suspect that’s not happening either.
Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack the thread. Ledford’s visitors’ bleachers are substandard and dangerous, especially for older fans.

Love seeing all the info about funding and lack there of. Lots of things need fixing but was really hoping to see more about THIS thread...ND vs. Ledford

ND-LHS will be a good game. Similiar defenses, size, athletes and rosters. North throws the ball better and Ledford runs it better. It is the biggest game of the week in the CCC and both teams have playoff position on the line. Winner gets a playoff spot and probably a 2-3 seed from another league. Loser gets a wildcard (if they get in with a 6-5 record) and plays a #1 seed. Ledford has not had the big DL #50 the last few weeks and it shows, not sure if he will be out there this week or not. The last two seasons have both teams nearly an even match so the team with the least amount of mistakes wins. Emotions will be high, smack talking will be going on and lots of physical play. May go see this one as it has such huge playoff implications. As the ND coach stated in the paper last week, "the playoffs have already started". These two will both be 2AA and could meet again if they can make it a couple of rounds. Ledford 17-14.

North was able to move the ball against Salisbury when receivers caught the ball and Jenkins decided to tuck it and run instead of giving it. I'm hoping for the same this week as Ledford has a stout D but less team speed to worry about.

A great high school football player.

PrepFanNC 100 million? In just roof repairs? Surely that is exaggerated #'s. Sounds like we masked the county problems by creating smoke and mirrors with the new shinny nickle in OG. Turn a blind eye to the real problems and look at our new shinny toy. Not sure what overall budget ended up being for OG Middle/High along the additional operating cost it has created but would be interesting to see what upgrades could have been done to the majority vs. 1.

Lastly, To the game. Despite what most of the skewed kool-aid drinkings on here think. I believe both teams are well coached. Both teams match up well. And i don't think it's a secret to what either team is going to try and do. Should be a great atmosphere and a fun football game. Good luck to both teams.

SHEWK5 shouldn't you be worried less on this thread and more on the "school your son should be at vs. the school your son is actually at"? Then again, N/M. ED is awful and you guys will score 50. OFF. POY honors are in line. Congrats. A great high school football player.

So I’m picking North in this one. They are putting things back together after having to change QB’s. It’s a rivalry that no matter how good or bad each is they are putting their best in. I say ND by 10.

BlackKnightNut have heard that he is no longer on the team due to poor choices outside of the football field. Sad to be honest. At one point it is my understanding that he had some Power 5s close to pulling the trigger on him. Kudos to the coaching staff for a coaching staff willing to put Character over W's & L's... because I have seen some that don't in my 30+ years of spectating.

That's a big void to fill for their D. Ledford can't afford to run cover 0 like Sbury so that might be a huge impact on the game.

ND offense is way more balanced than what Ledford faced at OG. Jenkins can both run and throw, that means defensively you're playing 11 on 12 sometimes.

My son is exactly where he is supposed to be. Thanks for your concern. East has great kids just lacking in being able to put things together. School is in a growing phase as those kids have had 5 principals in 4 years and seen 3 football coaches in which 2 were the same guy. Hard on them, unfortunately going to take a couple years to rebuild.

My son is a Senior at East and it is an understatement to say they had a disappointing season. Shewk5 is right, East has some great kids just a combination of things caused their season to go bad. It will probably be a couple of years before they are back on the winning track.

As far as a prediction for ND and Ledford. I think ND offense will be too much for Ledford. After seeing Ledford's defense last week I wasn't overly impressed, they are a solid defense but just not enough athleticism to consistely cover ND's receivers and stop Jenkins from scrambling. I'm picking ND by 10.

Not just roof repairs... all kinds of facility needs, not just roofs... It’s all documented. You’re a bit of a pot stirrer, so I won’t be going around in circles with you. Check it out. Choose to believe it. Or don’t. No skin off my knuckles.

Didn't know that rivalry was so lopsided.

Yep. First game ever was a tie. Ledford didn't win until the 90s when they had Brad Hoover and got three in a row. Beat North in 06 after 10 years and last year after 12.

I think it was 1994. Dickie Cline was head coach at Ledford. North wasn’t too good if I remember correctly.

Gentlemen,

I hate to shut down threads, especially when it’s a big rival game. But all the other talk needs to stop.
