Beat/play somebody exceptional out of your conference/league or blow out your weak competition.
My Forest Hills Yellow Jackets have crushed our weak opponents and played and beat an exceptional Charlotte Latin team and we didn't get ranked. Our win over 4A Piedmont really wasn't as close as the 27-7 score shows. We just started slow. Should have been 54-7. We crushed them in the second half. The other two games against weak opponents were running clocks at the start of the second half. We're ranked in the top ten in everything but this poll. Maxpreps, Massey, Calpreps, NCHSAA News and Observer. Just waiting to see where Simmons puts us.

This year's team is looking to be quite the riot and making waves...however, I believe the NCPreps team also looks at sustained success when making their (unofficial, means nothing) rankings.

Last year was the first year FH has made the playoffs since the (3-8) 2017 team made it. Last year's team was also the first winning record FH has had since 2015 (8-4 team lost in the first round at home vs East Burke).

How do you fair when the lights are the brightest...can you play like you've been there before or will the weight of the moment crush you? Yes you are successful, but being successful is new to you...this is why NCPreps doesn't have you in the top 10 in the state...

Just keep winning, the ship will correct itself.

Being successful isn't new to Forest Hills though?

Yeah I'm not talking about historically, throughout program history, I'm talking about right now.

In recent history...the past 5 years...FH has had only 1 winning season:

Everyone else in the NCPreps top 10 has had more. Personally I would put FH ahead of CHASE after this past Friday. I think NCPreps is leaning on CHASE because of the hard conference they are in and that stellar RB they have. Monroe gets a nod because they're down from 3A and the success they've had recently. Burns plays one of the toughest non conf schedules and is a Cleveland County team. I don't believe CHASE should be top 10. I believe if FH isn't top 10 then they are #11.

This isn't my rankings...it's NCPreps...I'm just trying to shed light on their thought process is all.

I agree with you. I was looking at Chase's schedule and it's weak for pretty much the whole season except for Hendersonville. We've still got a weak Montgomery Central next but after that it's tougher. 3-1 Anson, 3-1 West Stanly, 4-0 Monroe plus a 3A Parkwood team who's better than it's record shows. We're still young though which worries me.

Chase and Monroe looking suspect to me due to schedule...but RPI will sort out the seeding.

The rest of your schedule will sort you out. It's not just if you win or lose...but HOW do you win or lose that'll tell you where your young team is at.

Monroe's non-conference which is mostly 4A and 3A would have been a tough schedule any other season. For instance Marvin Ridge was preseason top 10 in 4A but they started 0-3. But for some reason those teams have stunk it up this year.

They still have porter ridge. Also, I'm not sure if Sunvalley will give them a game or not.

Realistically speaking, and based on the 1-3 record, Shelby shouldn’t be ranked. However, Shelby is very much a top 10 2A team. Top 5! That said, Forest Hills should be in the top 10 in place of the Lions. Most of you are thinking it anyway, until the playoffs, when Shelby sends your ranked team, and its players to basketball season, quicker than you’d like and anticipate.

I'm a Forest Hills supporter and I'm not thinking ya'll shouldnt be top 10. I know what kind of talent Shelby has. We've played ya'll three times in our history and won once. You're always tough. The two we lost kept us from a state title game. 😆

Nah, if it was any other team with that record, they wouldn’t be ranked in the top 10, period, regardless of the level of football. The rankings shouldn’t be based on sustained success or rep, just what’s going on currently, in my opinion.

It has to change…

No, but I think Salisbury needs to go

still think that will be a tough game
I agree. Porter Ridge always has a load of talent but they have been the same really since the Hardin guy left several years ago. They went to a couple 4A state title games under him. I believe he is now coaching Charlotte Latin. I know one of the Hardin boys are coaching Latin now. That's a big time coaching family.

Sun Valley has vastly improved. Record may not show it, but I don’t anticipate Monroe blowing them out.
When I was at FH Union County except for FH stunk in football. There were only 5 schools then and we crushed them all back then. The county has exploded in size and now has 12 high schools which has increased the talent level especially on the Sun Valley side. Sun Valley was 2A back then now they're 4A along with Weddington, Marvin Ridge, Porter Ridge and Piedmont. 3A Parkwood, 2A Monroe and Forest Hills, 1A Union Academy and Private schools Metrolina Christian and Trinity Christian. Central Academy is also 2A but they quit fielding a football team. Love to see old Sun Valley give Monroe a tight game.

The MIGHTY GOLDEN LIONS could go 1 and 9 and still be the best TEAM in the STATE according to the SHELBY FOLKS.

Out of the last two western teams we’ve played, I respect Shelby over the other one
It's tough when traditional winning programs experience adversity to the passionate fan base. We see that sometimes in Duplin County. I'm not so sure that Shelby is down for the count. Haven't seen them play, but I know what kind of juggernaut offense they have. I'll be surprised if they're not waiting on us, or whoever the eastern representative is this year.
