Here are the NCPreps.com football 2A poll for Week 3 of the 2022 high school football season.

2A

1. Wallace-Rose Hill (2-0)

2. East Surry (2-0)

3. Reidsville (1-1)

4. Burns (2-0)

5. Shelby (0-2)

6. Monroe (2-0)

7. Maiden (1-1)

8. Chase (2-0)

9. Northeastern (1-1)

10. Hertford County (2-0)

Are there any other programs other than Shelby and Alabama that can start 0-2 and still be considered a top 5 team? 0-2 is 0-2. And don't give me the whole "look who they played" bit, because Northeastern only beat the lowest of the low in Bertie and actually lost to average Rocky Mount, but are still in the top 10 themselves for whatever reason. Doesn't look like level of competition is a factor. Meanwhile, Hertford barely cracks the top 10. Little confused about this week's poll 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Reynold is #9 in 4A
KM is # 1 in 3A

Does that help?

Not at all, because I addressed that in the post when I brought up Northeastern. If strength of schedule is so important, then why is Northeastern still ranked? They beat one of the sorriest schools in the state, and lost to decent but not great team. But they are still in the top 10. Does SOS only apply when it helps certain schools?

Why do you even care about Northeastern’s 2A ranking?

You need to be worrying about your guys facing 1A Tarboro next week.

Win something.

Maxpreps still has Shelby in top 25 in overall rankings(all classes)

Monroe is 12, Burns is 20

Bottom line is there won't be a ton of movement in the first 3 or 4 games till we have some actual data to look at.

As far as Deanna comment on tradition...there's some truth to that. Year in and year out, especially Shelby, runs through the 2A competition...doesn't matter their nonconference record...they can go 1-3 to start the season then go on and win state. It's proven track record, every time. This year will be no different. If you don't think Shelby would wax 90% of other 2A programs you're extremely ignorant. Once 2A programs start beating Shelby...then I'll blink...until then I'll keep my eyes on the top of the mountain where they sit.

I don't believe Monroe should be 12...maybe 25. I believe Burns should be higher than Monroe.

Monroe better hope their opponents start winning games or it'll kill their RPI.

Well, I'm not playing, so I have no control over whether SWE wins or not. Besides, I'd rather they worry about 3A Hunt this week before worrying about Tarboro. If it makes you feel any better, I expect us to lose both games soundly. Unlike a lot of people, I have no problem admitting that we aren't very good right now. At all. So, can I have questions about other teams now, or should my comments be strictly about SWE? Besides, my comment wasn't about NE. It was about applying the same logic to all teams. If Shelby's SOS thus far helps them in this week's poll, then NE's SOS thus far should hinder them. Wasn't attacking NE at all. Was just using them as an example.

You're right. I'm sure they will still end up being the top dog. But you're telling me that Shelby can start 0-5 from playing ranked competition and still be in the top ten of a weekly poll simply because tradition and the fact that they still have a good chance to win the ship. But you know what....it sounds like I'm putting too much thought into a meaningless poll. I understand it's just an opinion and don't matter overall, so I'm just gonna leave this one alone. Way too many people this stuff personally and too seriously. I don't want to sound like one of them. Y'all win. You're right. I'm wrong.

None of it matters once RPI comes out. Then Shelby will be 15th or so in the west.

That's what I like about the math...takes my and your opinions out and gives us what it is.

We were just writing to say we understand your questioning and did not mean to appear so abrupt. But now you have tucked your tail between your legs and limped away.
Don’t do that. We like the debate.
We have had issues with rankings for all time.
The old college polls were rife with bias and agendas. Still are.
And most are wildly inconsistent, especially early in the season.
The Maxpreps overall poll mentioned above just came out for this week and 2A Shelby, ranked 5th in preseason and 10th last week, has fallen to 25th. But that same poll confirms that the two teams that defeated the Golden Lions are worthy of 7th and 8th place rankings. Both schools are bigger than Shelby, way bigger. 25th seems like an exaggerated fall.
We have discussed playing up in classifications in another recent thread, but Shelby has always seen the benefits of those tests far outweighing whatever damage occurs to an in season rankings.
It has always been about obtaining the rings. And our schedule helps us get there.
Due to our continued success, finally some that contribute to the polls do consider seriously how SOS impacts one’s record.
Northeastern has had significant success recently as well. That does influence some early season polls as a nod to their expected improvement. Same as Shelby. Both teams still must go out and make it happen.

Maybe the pollsters are factoring in that Northeastern has played its first two games without its top player (quarterback) and leader. I don’t know if that’s the reason but it could be and definitely probably should. I do think Hertford County should be higher.

Come on bro? You can't be serious? Not one person who votes on these polls even noticed NE not having their QB lol NE QB isn't even very good, average at best lol. NE got curb stomped by a very very down RM team......

To think that the pollsters take into account who's playing and who's not is quite a stretch. Aren't there over 300 schools? How can you expect them to know the injury report of every school? Gotta disagree with you hard there.

Maybe your right but I’ll tend to disagree. I believe they follow the top programs a little more closely. @GrizzlyDevil could you shed some of your knowledge on this.

Do they know the injury report for every...or most schools? Most likely not...do they know that top schools in each class might be missing key players? Maybe...Shelby is missing one of their studs...NE is....maybe that's why they haven't fallen as far.

I know they pay attention to who graduates...only reason I suspect Maiden wasn't top 5 preseason. All we lost was our QB, LB, and Center/DT of note...but that's a big hole to them. Returned practically the whole team, including 3 D1 bound players, and almost all of the best defense in school history...if QB graduation matters it also explains why Hendersonville didn't get a good preseason nod either.

I would imagine their pollsters all cover different parts of the state, and with that comes knowledge of these things and how that affects different programs.

Also, I think it doesn't really matter anymore now that there is an equation to sort it out...everyone has to take the same test and everyone gets placed according to their grade...

...but yes, I believe the top 10 in general are followed closer and may have injuries taken into account

Thanks for shedding some light, I knew you were the one to ask. Go Blue Devils!

James how do you think we’ll fare against HC. I know we scrimmaged them earlier. Also have you heard anything on the return date for Melson. The last time we went without our starting qb for a stretch we took some ugly early season losses but went on to face Reidsville in the state championship game.

We will beat HC but I don't know when he coming back he got hurt during extended practice right before the season
