I saw elsewhere that the numbers for realignment have been finalized.

2017-2021 NCHSAA Realignment Classifications 20/30/30/20 Percent-Modified Model

New Hanover with 1643 students will be the largest 3A school with Hickory (1031) as the last 3A team. Stuart Cramer, which was on the bubble and expected to stay 2A, will be moving up to 3A. South Point, as expected, is moving to 2A and will be the 2nd largest in that classification.

Based on those numbers, barring an influx of students, Crest will be in 3A playoffs instead of 3AA.

North Davidson drops all the way down to 2A?

It is because of new school opening in 2017. Being built across the street from Oak Grove MS. Will take students from North and Ledford. If you notice somewhere in the list it says "new Davidson County school" with their projected enrollment.

The new MAC ?
AC Reynolds
Asheville
Erwin
Enka
TC Roberson
North Buncombe
Tuscola

Not sure about the Henderson County schools. Maybe them, Freedom, West Caldwell and Hickory. Not sure who else.

2A- West Craven, South Point, and North Davidson coming down stands out.
3A- Monroe up, Hickory the cutoff and stays 3A

Looks like Reidsville will be flying solo in 2-A again as far as schools in Rockingham County go.

One other observation: this 20-30-30-20 split will put parochial powers Charlotte Catholic and Cardinal Gibbons both back in 3-A.

Charlotte Catholic would have been coming back to 3A even with a 25-25-25-25 as their numbers are under 1250, less than Crest. It looks like Cardinal Gibbons would have dropped back, albeit the largest 3A, under the old format as they will be the 101st school.

I like the way you think. I would love that new 2A conference. But where is Hunter Huss in the mix?

Huss would go in the 3A conference. Which isn't that bad to have 7 conference games and 4 to work with for nonconference. The Gaston County schools could still play South Point and East Gaston and Cleveland County Schools could still play Shelby.

Nothing new under the sun........

Catholic & Gibbons have to play up a classification. That was set before the last realignment.

That is incorrect. I think them and Bishop McGuiness should play up one class or have a multiplier but that regulation was never put in place. Catholic will play 3A next alignment.

Not true. Cardinal Gibbons petitioned state to move up to 4A, I figure they'll try and stay 4A. The rule I believe is and tango correct me if I'm wrong, but if let's say Cardinal Gibbons was to win 4 straight titles in a sport they automatically move up a class. Is that right?

3A Union County conference for Catholic would be great, would restart some old rivalries like CC/Monroe, CC/Weddington(used to play every year in early 00s), CC/Marvin Ridge, and give us some new ones.
Gates would be way higher too on both ends. Just makes sense

I wouldn't put it past the same PTB that wanted the Gaston County Big South 3A/2A to propose a 2A/1A Gaston County conference with South Point, East Gaston, Bessemer City, Cherryville, Highland Tech, and Mountain Island Charter, with Thomas Jefferson and Lake Norman Charter thrown in to make numbers.

Looking at the setup to come, many complain about split-conf. looks like there maybe many or alot of traveling. jmo. And the 4A PAC-6 maybe gone all-together. Some of the 3A conferences around the state may have some wicked schedules in alot sports not only football.

I can't imagine the suckitude of that conference. Enough of the Gaston County inbreeding. It's time to go out and meet the big world. Leave the people that make these crappy decisions at home so they can vote themselves more big bonuses for jobs not done.

Would McDowell join the Northwestern Conference?

Not sure. With McDowell being the 4A school that is the farthest west, I am not sure where they may end up.

Here is an idea for the new 3A conferences in the Central Piedmont

North Forsyth
Parkland
Mt. Tabor
Western Guilford
Southern Guilford
Asheboro
SW Randolph

Dudley
Smith
SW Guilford
Northern Guilford
NE Guilford
Eastern Guilford
SE Guilford

Williams
Eastern Alamance
Western Alamance
Southern Alamance
Rockingham County
McMichael
Morehead

This ain't as far fetched as some might think. I think you'll see East Gaston playing Mountain Island, possibly year after next even if it is non conference.

I could see a 2A/3A combo of Shelby, South Point, East Gaston, Cramer, Hunter Huss, Ashbrook, Forestview and North Gaston before I see that. Still want Burns, Crest and KM with the Gaston 3A's and Shelby in with the Gaston 2As and Lincoln County.

Given the ADMs, that scenario is the best we can hope for. However, someone somewhere is going to screw it all up. If things really work out, Cramer will 'discover' they don't have as many students as they reported (or have the BOE redraw the district lines) and ask to go back to 2A so SP can play up.

Sasha/Other SP people. I am guessing South Point will only be 2A for four years then back up to 3A right? Will Stuart Cramer be 3A? I have not looked at the realignment sheet in detail yet so I'm honestly wondering.
Thanks in advance

At first, it looked like Cramer would be 2A, but after all the adjustments, they will be moving up. This means Crest probably gets them in conference play. Unless the district lines are redrawn to SP's disadvantage, numbers should push us back up in a few years. As the 2nd largest 2A, SP could argue for moving up but not sure if they will.
