NCHSAA girls basketball playoffs 2025

I’m not there but looks to be a good game. I know LN has an attendency to start out slow in the 1st but then pick up in the 2nd. So this game apparently been tough for LN.

LN is athletic, but seems to struggle if they can’t score off turnovers or if the other team defends well. I’ve never really thought they were well coached, just more athletic and skilled than most other teams. McDowell plays very well together and doesn’t seem phased by LN pressure. They have missed some very easy shots around the basket they need to make though if they are going to win.

Yes, McD pressure plays a part but they seem to be letting their nerves affect them.
You can tell the titans are well coached.
Second half should be interesting.

Whatever they’re doing with the lights every so often is annoying though.
It’s the stupid scrolling marquee thing that’s wrapped around the whole arena. It changes from a dark background to a light background and you really notice it when it’s white. I was there earlier and wondered if it messes with the players at all.

Dang tough game. To keep Lake Norman in the 50’s was doing something. 1st of all Congratulations to McDowell for having one heck of a season. I was telling myself if LN loses I certainly would be behind McDowell for winning the Championship game.

They didn't play their best game but the Lady Titans proved they belonged and it certainly wasn't a 15 or 20 plus point game like many said it would be. LN was very fortunate to win
Ugh wish I could have watched this game. Congratulations on an amazing season hope the seniors get an opportunity to play collegiately! As for the refs if you think it gets better next level it don’t 🤣🤣

We lose some seniors but 2 of our 3 all region players will be back next season and our JV girls only lost one game so they will be solid for years to come.

I would love to see a Regional tournament. Break it down to a field of 16, go by Maxpreps rankings and play a tournament to crown a true, overall champion. If that is the case, I think Cherokee girls smoke everyone, maybe LN and Bishop could keep up, but I don't see any team beating them. Bishop got lucky the other night as Cherokee looked a little "off" in first half but boy did they look good in the 2nd half. Especially, down the stretch! Their guard pressure is as good as it gets and they have a true dominate person inside who controls the game. Would love to see Cherokee play some teams down in the Charlotte area or would love to see some of these teams go play them at their Christmas Tournament. Anyways, best of luck to all teams playing in state games.

The Hoggard/Wakefield game reminded me of the 2007 state boys championship game between New Hanover and Chambers (then known as Vance).

New Hanover had a very good offense that year but the final was 39-35. Neither team tried slow down tactics. Just one of those games.

Not sure if Wakefield can hang with LN but they are probably better than the semifinal game showed.

When I saw Hoggard roster I was surprised they did as good as they did. They only had 1 senoir, 6 juniors, 3 sophomores, 4 freshmens. They should have a good future with that team.

I believe that Cherokee was in same Christmas tournament as Lake Norman looking back at their schedule. They both lost to same team. Hebron Christian beat Cherokee 76-57 and the night Hebron beat Lake Norman 66-52. If Cherokee could have won they would have played Lake Norman the next night. That would have been a fun matchup I believe.

I think they have a good team and they are young. A review of their schedule shows they aren’t preparing for the tournament. I know scheduling can be tough but they need seek out some traditional powers. If I am reading it correctly, their strength of schedule on the Maxpreps ranking is woefully low.

I would say part of the issue is that area of the state (minus when Saniya Rivers was playing) isn’t traditionally strong in girls basketball, which plays a role in their strength of scheduling.

You are correct, but if you want to perform in the playoffs you have to prepare. Schedule a trip out west for 2 games - Friday/Saturday to play strong teams. Maybe pick up Terry Sanford at the very least.

One thing I noticed last night and I think is still causing some confusion is that there are two three point lines, which the kids aren’t used to. Last night I clearly saw players step behind the college arc when they already could have shot a HS three. Causes delays in getting your shot off and it’s both a longer shot and harder to make while moving back.

Comic moment as SE Alamance player comes on and practically trails down two refs trying to call timeout. Neither notice and the ref all the way across the court finally grants the TO.

Pretty impressive for SE Alamance to be in the finals after just opening in 2023.
However, I’ll take the winner of tonight’s 2A west in the finals.

For those who’ve been pounding the “poor officiating” line, I just have to say that I see an official working this game who I think is consistently one of the worst in our area.
