Love your 3A Conference #10; however, we Raider fans want Shelby in 2A #13, not #12. What a conference that would be. Besides, it might give the Rutherford County teams a chance at a conference championship.
Unfortunately, the Gaston County AD has made it publicly clear he wants the Big South 3A/2A to remain intact as is. Politics always fouls up a perfectly reasonable realignment proposal.

Shelby would win their conference with their JV team, and it wouldn't even be competitive. Could probably play their 8th graders.
North Buncombe and TC Roberson should not be separated from their county rivals. I would put them in with the other 6 mountain 3A schools.
Put St. Stephens and Hickory in with West Caldwell, Freedom, Watauga, South Caldwell and McDowell, and Alexander, North Iredell, South Iredell and Statesville in with Carson, East Rowan, and South Rowan. Nothing wrong with your Catawba/Iredell proposal and putting the Rowan and Cabarrus 3A's together except that TC Roberson and North Buncombe don't really fit where you put them.

9 team conferences suck. No chance to really get the kinks out before you are into Conference play. Also no chance to get to play teams from other areas for the experience factor. 6-7 team conferences are the best in my opinion after going through the wars for 30 years. Even 8 teams is not bad because you still get 4 Non-Conference games. 9 and 10 are just way too many.
Originally, it was an 8 team conference, but mid realignment, one of the schools (JM Robinson?) which was 4A petitioned to move back to 3A based on a significant decline in enrollment. After all was said and done, that school joined the SPC 3A.

Actually it was 9 teams before JM Robinson was added this year. It's 10 now. And as everyone knows the NCHSAA made the SMAC 9 teams. Less games to schedule but I can't stand going right into conference play for sports other than football and basketball.
Personally, Mister Simmons, I think the Chapel Hill Donut Eatin' Club should step aside and let you and Mister B. Tango run the show. Maybe hire Governor Purnell as the Public Relations Director, and possibly an Entertainment Director for after game soirees , band bookings, and an occasional lady to dance in go-go boots in one of them Go-Go cages that used to hang like a lantern overlooking the stage.. You're a damn genius, Sir, but there HAS to be a method to ELIMINATE split conferences, with the exception being isolated 1-A and 2-A schools. No way in hell there should be split, cup cake, or paddy cake conferences in 3-A and 4-A.. NO WAY.
Put Northwood in Conference #3 and get them out of Conference #4. Northwood will NOT travel to Fayetteviile. More current and natural rivalries for the Chargers in Conference #3.
Take Westover and Douglas Byrd out of 3A Conference #6 and put them in the 3A/4A Conference #6 with the other Cumberland County teams. More natural rivalries for Byrd and Westover.
Take Harnett Central and Triton out of Conference #5 and put them in Conference #4 with Union Pines, Lee County, Southern Lee and Western Harnett. This gives Western Harnett a few more natural rivals.
