MT Airy at Pine Lake Prep

I guess it doesn't matter what you call it ether way it's $500 but people keep calling it a fine like if you go against the nchsaa and show the game on your YouTube channel then they fine you $500. But it's technically not a fine , if a playoff game isn't being broadcast by first Sinclair or second by nfhs network who have paid for broadcasting rights then a third party like FYN or a schools Youtube channel can broadcast a playoff game if they get permission from the Nchsaa who legally own all broadcasting rights wether TV streaming or radio and pay a $500 fee for broadcasting rights for that game, which is what nfhs network under their contract with nchsaa has to pay for every playoff game that they broadcast Any radio station has to pay them $100 per game. If I understand it right the schools while they do have to fill out a request form during the regular season don't have to pay for youtube broadcast during the regular season the fees above is for playoffs only. I posted the form in a post earlier in this thread.
Though I do believe no matter what $500 fee for the schools is ridiculously high especially when they're already getting a cut at the gate and especially this season I believe the nchsaa should waive the fee to the schools.

I’ve never seen Sinclair show any playoff games except state finals.
I don't believe they do but but that's just by their choice. In the form it states..."Sinclair Broadcasting Group has purchased the exclusive rights to produce and distribute the Football and Basketball State Championships. They also have the right of first refusal on any playoff contest in those two sports for the duration of their contract with the NCHSAA."
What is comes down to in the Nchsaa wants their $500 per game during the playoffs and if there is a game were the home team isn't a nfhs customer and they broadcast their games with a third party like fyn or youtube then the third party has to pay the same $500 broadcasting fee that nfhs does per their contract with the nchsaa.

In discussing these fees etc. I'm just curious if you were to ask an athletic director what the NCHSAA does for their school or program or the benefits they get for their membership what would they say?
It just seems ether the school members are getting a good return on their investment or its like well it's be this way for over a 100 years and it just the way things are. It's just that the nchsaa isn't government but a private non-profit organization seems that if standing together kinda like a union that 421 schools should be able to make changes that they don't like and maybe they do I don't know the behind the scenes that goes on.

Nchsaa distributed $4 million to the schools in December 421 members that's $9,500 per school drop in the bucket seeing as of an audit I believe in 2018 they had $41 million in the bank. So yeah I believe they can afford to not take their gate cut and if it's not a Sinclair or nfhs broadcast I believe they do away with the third party broadcasting fee for this season.
I read an article in 2017 that during the playoffs that schools actually lose money because of the usually low attendance of the visiting team plus the nchsaa cut and to the visiting school that it can actually cost the school less to to travel.
The NCHSAA is like our government, all take and no give. They should not be charging anything in this COVID pandemic year. Should be giving more to the schools for all the loss in ticket sales. They are actually worse than our government. And what do they do with all the money that's not spent, give themselves a raise every year ? Who determines when they get a raise and how much. The NCHSAA should be a break-even organization and not make money to do who knows what with. They probably have more than 1 backing account. Can not trust them any more than our government. All are corrupt in my opinion and this post is also my opinion.

Thing is if the schools feels the same way since they're not government the schools could fire the nchsaa, form their organization and their own board temporarily use existing rules and regulations to keep games going until they come up with their own.
Of course with 421 schools that could be like herding cats and would probably bring the government in plus nchsaa probably has them in contracts that would tie everything up in courts. Kinda catch 22

The state could have came off their rainy day fund this year too but no one wants to talk about that. It's rained for 2 years from Covid to hurricanes yet here we sit. The state treats education like a burden. They'd do the same to athletics once they see what it cost to run a program.

Well as mentioned it's kinda of a catch 22 I doubt the school even if they could do it on their own once ties are broken with the nchsaa the government probably wouldn't let them run athletics independently but as far as money that's I guess is my question the schools though their budgets or /and athletic booster clubs pay for their equipment and facilities they pay the referees ,their travel etc. Then besides their membership fees , they pay the nchsaa part of playoff gate money an extra fee if they want to broadcast a home playoff game. So question is besides rules and regulations organizing the conferences the playoffs brackets etc what do the schools get in return? What is besides employee salaries and the one time $4 million in December what do they spend the money on? Technically what does come from booster organizations for School athletics comes out of the schools budget doesn't it? So if that's the case then technically the government wether state or county is already paying for school athletics

Well when we wake up and decide we have had enough of both, we can vote out members of the government and come with a solution for replacing the NCHSAA. We the people have no backbone anymore and until we get one and do what makes us happier we are stuck in the Twilight Zone of a degrading way of life. We are no longer a free-willed society.

Boosters are 501C organizations that are not tied to school funds. They operate pretty much like a PTO just on the athletic side of things. That money is raised by the boosters and used soley for athletics. Some school systems give athletics very little which is the need for boosters. When your school gets new uniforms you can likely thank a boosters club.

Very true in more systems than people would ever believe.
Mount Airy Boosters probably do more for Mount Airy than most schools. It would probably be surprising to most what the Bear boosters do annually. they probably could not ask for more from the boosters. I can't list it all but someone closer to the program may list it all.

Every school system and county is different and in some ways the same in how they pay for athletics. I've known schools to have a fundraiser for a new stadium or repairs to the old one and sometimes a local corporation gets involved gives a bunch of money for it , usually you have to name the stadium after them and I've known counties who have a wealthy tax base to build or improve stadiums on their own ,some get grants or use left over money from another grant for other school projects. Most have like Mitchell has yearly business partners who buy banners that go around the field or hang in the gym and of course booster clubs some do more then others but most as said wouldn't have uniforms without them etc etc
So the question remains besides employee salaries and December's one time share and what do the nchsaa do with the money the schools, counties, volunteers , business donors etc who are already in these different ways paying for everything else themselves? Not saying there isn't legitimate things maybe scholarships or something but outside of organizational purposes what does the schools get for their investment? $41 million sitting in the bank is a lot of money.
