This could be a very interesting match up. Both teams can score points. Any thoughts or predictions? Don't anything about Pine Lake, but I do know MT Airy has very good football History.

From what I have seen, PLP has a pretty good Sr QB they got from Hough (4A). He is quick, elusive, and can put the ball on a rope...duel threat. They also brought in a few more guys from Hough and the likes. I have read the QB is a D-1 prospect. I think as he goes, the team goes. But, they have not played much competition this season. Sure, they beat MIC, but that’s after MIC mailed it in for the year. PLP beat CSD in their last game, so I guess that was a decent win? It was a 16-15 game with 4 min to go. I’d say get that film and see how CSD attacked PLP on D.

If comes down to play calling MA will lose!
Buzz, yes...Play calling will be the factor. MA must mix up the play calling, particularly on the run game. As mentioned on the MA vs ES post, repetitive play calling won't get the Win. Keep them guessing. A balance of inside/ outside runs...then a strike from QB....mix it up.... Keep the opponents DEs, DBs and LBs on their toes...keep em honest. MA has a great deal of talent at QB /RB....must be utilized to its fullest potential.

PL Prep's head coach is one of the nicest I've met.. we scrimmaged them in 2014 at West Wilkes they were in the Wing back then. They've really grown their program a lot since then.. they used to be down.

I think MA's the favorite here though.. if anything due to the defense. PL Prep hasn't faced many defenses with both the team speed and ability to get to ball. If Poindexter gets in the groove then MA will be okay. They can't afford a bad start.

They have their grey astroturf but Mount Airy has their huge video scoreboard as you see at most colleges but somewhat smaller. Bears are building on next year and will dish out all that PLP can handle and would love to make it to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds. Good Luck Mount Airy Granite Bears !

Pine lake is tough and athletic. They have a bunch of Hough transfers, big strong kids. If MA can throw effectively on them - that’s their weakness. If you try and run all game, it will be a long night. PLP looks much different than years past, even if it is for just this one year as all the Hough guys are seniors..

Why not? I figure broadcasting probably has something to do with nchsaa broadcasting rules during the playoffs but why no spectators supposed be at least 50%

50% is the limit imposed by the governor, but that doesn't mean that systems and schools can't choose to have more restrictive standards in place. Pine Lake Prep is a charter school with its own rules, if they say no spectators, that's kind of their prerogative. It certainly sucks for fans, but it is what it is unless the NCHSAA overruled them and made them open it up for fans, which in the old days would happen, but in this new Covid world that we live in, nothing is normal anymore.

Well I didn't word that right should have said "can be" instead of "supposed to be"...I.am just figured most schools would take what they can get. I not for stadiums full and packed like sardines but at 50% plus being outdoors seems should be plenty of caution for any school. I don't know how much authority if any nchsaa has over wether a school admits an audience or not while they probably don't like it because they miss their cut at the gate , they're just the ruling body over athletic rule and procedures but this would come under the schools campus authorities the board, superintendent etc I doubt nchsaa has any authority in the matter.
As far as broadcasting they do have authority and I believe the school has shown games on youtube so nchsaa may have not authorized that because the school wouldn't pay a fee or something.

That is it. School would have to pay a $5000 dollar fine to broadcast or something like that. Not sure how much seating they have or if ant available for parents

Well I think as long as Sinclair then nfhs network isn't broadcasting the game then you can show it on YouTube but I not positive but I believe during the playoffs the school has to pay per game to get permission, seem I saw something like $500 but not sure. There must be some way for them to because Mitchell has a youtube channel and they said that they're not sure yet if they'll be able to broadcast it Thursday so I assume there's some kinda avenue or they wouldn't be working on it.

I don't know if this is up to date it's all I could find or if "third party" is any one including the school or the school is considered part of that, seems $500 per game is a lot seeing they're already taking a cut at the gate. Plus seems nchsaa could give them a break this year with only being allowed 50% attendance.

"If both Sinclair and NFHS Network or any of their affiliated content producers, decline to produce an event, third-party groups can request to broadcast NCHSAA playoff contests through the online form found above."

"Once that form is completed and the events clear the first refusal phase of the process, third-party broadcasts will be approved. There is a fee associated with broadcasting or streaming the video of any NCHSAA playoff contest. For football, that fee for live streaming internet video is $500 per game, per our contract with the NFHS Network. That fee applies to any video production not EXCLUSIVELY carried on the NFHS Network"

Can't watch game. No visitors spectators no live feed.

Buzzcoach said he thought they ran their games on Youtube. I did this search and only found games for fall 2020. Youtube pine lakes prep 2021 vs Mount Airy football games.

PLP is not set up for NFHS and if they stream thru something else (say YouTube) it’s about a $500 fine....

If what I posted earlier is correct I guess they're debating on wether to spend $500 for the rights or not. Mitchell said they don't know if they'll be broadcasting their game or not ether. I wonder if these schools may be talking to the nchsaa about lowering their fee since they're restricted on attendance seems they should give some kinda break this season.

The NCHSAA already gets part of the playoff gates now they probably get part of this NFHS. They should get nothing in the year of the COVID........ It is costing these schools in lost attendence ! !

Nchsaa distributed $4 million to the schools in December 421 members that's $9,500 per school drop in the bucket seeing as of an audit I believe in 2018 they had $41 million in the bank. So yeah I believe they can afford to not take their gate cut and if it's not a Sinclair or nfhs broadcast I believe they do away with the third party broadcasting fee for this season.
I read an article in 2017 that during the playoffs that schools actually lose money because of the usually low attendance of the visiting team plus the nchsaa cut and to the visiting school that it can actually cost the school less to to travel.

So a private school can't come up with $250 to pay the NCHSAA so they can show on TV. A shame the Mt Airy parents will not be able to watch their kids play.
I don't know how much money they have or don't have I noticed online they do budget for donations upto about $500k but other wise they get the same state funds as a public school because they're not private they don't have a tuition they are a K - 12 public charter school which means about the only difference between them and a public school is I assume they have a lottery system like other charters have their own board and they're not bound by county or districts.

Seems I remember Deana making a post earlier this week that Sinclair would be doing the playoff games on TV again this year or was I dreaming. LOL

The larger shame is the parents and family of seniors that they may never see play again. Is PLP giving all the 50% now allowed to their fans?

Parent are getting 2-3 tickets a piece. Game will not be streamed what I am hearing. Will be fined $500. I watched 3 games on you tube from this year and they had 2 announcers and it was pretty.good. wish they would at least you tube it. I haven't missed but one playoff game since 2005. And that was because of an accident. Step up PLP do the right thing. But if not we do have awesome radio announcers In Tommy and Kelly from Wsyd/wpaq radio.

Game to watch in the Western 1AA. Tradition meets transfers. My opinion, Bears will have to make #1 throw more than he wants. Pisgah game was decided on QB running the ball but Bears much better on defense now. One of the top defenses in 1A with ES. Bears will be able to run just enough to keep them honest and have Poindexter hit some throws. Bears 24-12 and will set up a date with ES
