I think East Wilkes and Wilkes Central may be the favorites with Ashe and Starmount in the mix. Any thoughts?

in no particular order well maybe..lol
East Wilkes lost a few but a lot of talent coming back and a new winning attitude
Wilkes Central as always will have athletes and will be able to score
Starmount- Tradition doesnt graduate and they have plenty of it. Talent and numbers arent the caliber of yester year's though.
Ashe- Air Raid, not sure but they have a great back if he stays healthy
West Wilkes- JV talent from 2 seasons ago is on varsity now. They were beastly on jv and ran through everyone. Not sold on the continuity however.
Alleghany- Im not sure on these guys. They however are always pretty hard nosed competitors. Numbers may be an issue.
Elkin- No where to go but up. Not sure it will happen this season however. This isnt Grissom's caliber of talent now.
North Wilkes- Good jv team. Big boys. Good coach. Won big 3 seasons ago. Have to get that winning attitude back to rebound from horrible season last year.

I don't understand how WC will be the number 2 team. They lost Bynum and their QB who combined for over 3000 yards together. Who is going to replace that production and experience?

If you're talking about the RB, (Boles?)then according to the team profile that WC coach submitted, he is there. I actually think he transferred there last year but had to sit out. Heard he was good but a year of sitting out is a big deal.
Uh oh Im hearing that Wilkes Central lost a couple of their feature backs to a city school not far from Alleghany. If this is true, that might sting a lil bit for them. These feature backs would be hard to replace this close to August. Anyone else heard anything?
Actually they will be suiting up for the Maroon Tide out of Galax,Va. They are defending 1a champs. This is what im hearing.
Boles is at WC as a transfer from North.

Wow those doors must really be wide open at Galax. We have lost a kid or two to them, and Grayson County gets savaged by them.

From North Wilkes to Wilkes Central to Galax. I hope they are buying the kids gas up the mountain. Have the two kids moved into the state of Virginia or does Galax pull an Elkin and just let anyone play.

They have family in the Galax, Va area and have had family in the area for a while. This almost took place last year with the Boles kid as far as moving and playing for Galax.
Lol at the Elkin remarks. Grissom was a great coach. He got the most out of the kids. Average athletes he would make good. Good athletes he would make great!! However there would be no C-Ship at Elkin without East Wilkes and Starmount. This is for sure!! Maybe no C-Ship for Starmount without Elkin. Jville and Elkin are in awful close proximity to each other.
Not sure about the rules in virginia, but in North Carolina, they would have to be living with a legal guardian right?

They were at Galax workouts earlier in the summer. Got this info from a coach currently affiliated with the team. Maybe they moved back or whatever. They were there.
True. I have lot of respect for those Elkin teams and what all they did. They owned the area for a nice term of 5 years for the most part. The 03 was one of the best in the county's history. But the distention at East Wilkes in 02 which killed Westcott's reign there was really what helped those Elkin teams. Elkin had some good home district guys but the added cats from there added some depth and that was what they needed.
Another thing that helped Grissom was getting Coach Faulkner from North Surry. He completely improved their defense and they got to be pretty stout and dominating especially in the odd years of that early 00's run. That's what Grissom lacked in a lot of his earlier seasons.
I wish Boles would just settle down and play. He's got a heck of a lot of talent but it's being wasted and it's sad to see. He impressed the heck out of me and very few kids do that, just hope he gets it together and plays hard somewhere.
