Are you going to do some of your great "digging" on this like you did the Hoggard QB? Just curious how much the truth really means to you.Originally posted by wildcatfan78:
Coach Mot resigned today to spend time with his wife and 2 young sons. He will be sorely missed.
I would never go there because I am not that kind of person, however you have shown that you are. Just wondering if your digging only happens on shipyard.Originally posted by wildcatfan78:
Port,
What "Truth" are you referring to?
I totally agree. If they get a perfect fit NH could become a special program.Originally posted by Diamonds are forever:
Motsinger is not leaving the cupboard bare as the NHHS team next year returns many solid players. NHHS has good facilities, a supportive administration, boosters who will make sure the coach has everything he needs to win, and a supportive alumni/fan base. The infrastructure is already in place and NHHS is ready to win big in football. I understand that the interest has been quite high over the past 4 days since Motsinger resigned. I expect to see NHHS make a very strong hire.
That is not what I was talking about. Keep digging.Originally posted by wildcatfan78:
Port,
Actually I did some digging and so far there are applications from Coaches from at least seven (7) states. Lots of interest in the position.
No digging here, I already know. I thought of all people you would want to know the whole truth and that with you resources you would find out.Originally posted by wildcatfan78:
I'll leave that up to Port. Don't believe anything to find, but good digging Port.
Seven states ... Wow. South Brunswick had a lot of interest in head coach position last year as well ... I think they had a application from North or South Dakota. No matter how many applications New Hanover receives, about 10% - 20% are worth anything. I would imagine that they are looking for someone with head coaching experience and success. That being said ... The names that Portcity gave wouldn't excite too many in the Wildcat fan base. Joey Price is not leaving Wallace - Too good of a thing going. Battle Holley has had some success, but the last two seasons he has gone 9 -14 at a school that has been above .500 every season since 1999. Good bloodlines though, but will that carry a lot of weight? Rocky Lewis just got back into coaching last year and doesn't have a lot to show for it at a traditionally weak school (0-11). His father Bob has better shot than him, but that won't happen. Keith Wood has been at Scotland the last several years as an assistant with minimum head coaching experience, but has been part of strong programs and has ties to the area - coached at Hoggard. Daniel Finn name has been mentioned and would be a good fit. He was successful at SE Raleigh and turned the Conley program around in the short time he was there. Also there might be an assistant out there ready to lead .... Joe Miller's first head coaching job was at New Hanover and that turned out pretty good. Good luck to the Wildcats in their search.Originally posted by wildcatfan78:

I have read some funny stuff on these boards over the years, your statement is by far the funniest. That is hilarious.Originally posted by Mr All American:
They might be great fits yes, calm is good for a program that has been there and done that in my opinion. Kind of a person that just is the face of the program, but the issue with NH is they need to get over the hump. They need to stop letting players go to Hoggard or even Laney (just saying).
portcity, I agree with Mr. All American ... I think New Hanover needs someone with fire and intensity that understands the X's & O's. I don't doubt Rocky Lewis' knowledge of the game ... His background is very strong, but motivating your players is just as important as putting them in the right place. Miller & Motsinger seem to have that intensity that the players respected and would run through a wall for them. Motsinger's X's & O's have been questioned by many (including several on this board). but he got a lot out of his players and his record proved it. Can someone take them further into the playoffs? Yes I do, but it's going to take someone with past success that the kids can buy into. Kids can buy into it a lot easier than a calm person with a 0-11 record. E. Columbus was probably not the best job for Rocky ... No support. If his first job was somewhere else and had better success, it would probably help his cause. Keith Wood on the other hand intrigues me ... He had a good short run at Fairmont, but leaving a head job for an assistant position has me scratching my head. I would think he could of gotten another head coaching job somewhere, but maybe he felt he could get further ahead by being an assistant at a program like Scotland ... I don't know.Originally posted by portcity FB:
Monk,
Those are great points. I agree about Price and Holley. They may apply to try and get a better deal at the schools they are at currently. Finn has impressive numbers. Wood and Lewis are interesting. Wood has coached with two great coaches and had good success as a head coach at fairmont. I think he would be a good fit. Lewis is a great coach. He stopped coaching for a while but it is in his blood. He has coached at ECU and ASU as well as other colleges. He had nothing at EC this year. I don't think tommy knotts does much better with that team. Lewis would bring a different culture to NH. He is a very calm peaceful man. He will bring a lot of class and integrity to any program. He is a wildcard, he could very well be the next great coach in our area. Will NH roll the dice with him? I think he would be a great fit as well.
If the county closed open choice it would hurt NH a lot more than it would help them. A LOT more!Originally posted by Mr All American:
I was just referring to the choice transfer and the possibility of losing players to other Wilmington schools, I was just throwing that out there. My apologies.
The main portion of thoughts that I had was bring someone in that is younger with energy, passion, full commitment, and a winning background. Don't just bring in an older guy that has been to tons of school and has been mediocre or maybe one deep playoff run.
Relate to the players, because this is a great job that can seriously make run after run every single year.
How exactly are the other coaches recruiting? Do,you think they are calling or visiting the homes of certain players? I do not know Yoman personally but I do know Braswell some what and I would bet my house that he has never contacted a kid in another school district to recruit him to hoggard. I don't think Mot has either.Originally posted by wildcatfan78:

Don't think this opportunity for NH currently without a coach has gone unnoticed by Hoggard and Laney and I'm sure they are trying hard to recruit current NH players to their schools. The only problem at Hoggard is that, as Port mentioned last week about whether Braswell will be back at Hoggard next year, is that the coaching situation there is potentially up in the air as well.
I'm sure there is a lot of speculation inside and outside of Shipyard whether Braswell will coach next year. I wish him well as he continues to recover.
I think recruiting is the least of the selling points for this job
Yes we will. Hoggard play @ NH next season. Sorry, I couldn't resist.Originally posted by wildcatfan78:

I don't either. Too big of a pay cut.Originally posted by wildcatfan78:
