Shelby/Monroe would be an awesome game but I really don't think there is a 2A team that could hang with us. Just too many weapons and our defense is solidifying.

Small 2a I can agree Shelby is in a class alone. 2aa Shelby has many challengers. I can also go on record and say that if Clinton and Shelby meet again that Clinton wins. The east is very physical and Clinton combines physical with a lot of athletic players of there own.

One thing that stands out about Shelby is they don't get out front and try to hold on for the win. They press to score on every possession. It's like they are running the come from behind 2 minute drill the entire game. There are no high school defenses that can manage that relentless pressure.

We would absolutely destroy Clinton again, just as we did last year, minimum 3 touchdowns. They're just looking good versus inferior competition out east. No team on their schedule has a winning record or is even at .500 for that matter. In my opinion, Shelby, Monroe, and High Point Andrews are the 3 best teams, east or west, in 2A/2AA, period.

Hpa is def at top 10 team, I'm not sure about top 3. If they beat Central Friday they probably are top 3.

I remember very recently, as in the past two years, Clinton and your SWO Stallions, both, getting their asses handed to them by Shelby. They were both horse meat to the Lions. One thing is for sure, SWO won't be representing the east this season.

Funny thing is ive seen where Clinton people are predicting they will play Shelby for title..
Shelby taking it week to week fellows.
Injurys are happening,but thats part of game,we have plenty more studs to step up.
As for title i very well feel we will be playing for it...Coach Ware and staff have done wonders with this new offense...
This years team offense really cant be stopped and the defense starting to jell.
Come Nov. We will be hard to stop by any 2a school. This all in my opinion. ...

Lion Attack you are correct Clinton's schedule has been soft this year however 4A Wilmington Hoggsrd was not soft, they're 2-3 but they've played a very tough 4A schedule and all 3 losses were very close. They were a eastern 4A finalist last year I think you're incorrect in writing off the whole east. You need to get out of Cleveland County every once in awhile particularly east of I-95. Writing the DarkHorses off this early is a serious error in judgment, but we'll see

As far as the poll goes Clinton loses to a respected 4A team by 3 points and falls out of the rankings. I'll go ahead and tell you out of the 5 ranked eastern 2A teams Clinton is better than 4 of them maybe all 5 but it's still September and way to early. We'll see who's still playing Thanksgiving.

This list, its a 3A list and there's only 1 team within 2 hours of Clinton, Fayetteville's Terry Sanford, and they're not going to play Clinton. There's enough schools in Cumberland County alone, that they don't even have to leave their county. In my 43 years of following Clinton football I've only seen 1 Cumberland County (neighboring county) (correct that Cape Fear during the same era as well) .team agree to play Clinton, back in the 1980's, Westover, when the school was still being built!! I'd love to see Clinton play Terry Sanford. Maybe you can talk with their athletic director. Good luck with that

What scares me is some of the Shelby fans are starting to post like Crest fans and that is not what we do.I have seen more games than most of these fans put together and have seen great Lion teams lose to Clinton,SWO,and Andrews when I thought there was no way we lose.One week at a time.

There's nothing wrong with fans talking it up and looking ahead to certain games on the schedule,that's all part of being a fan,we don't have all the headaches that come with coaching,but it is dangerous thinking for coaches and I bet they all do it to a certain extent because it's just human nature,they'll never admit to it though,but I know they do

Monroe defeated #3
I think Monroe could beat Shelby as well as win 2AA/2A, I also think they could both win small 3A as it looks pretty weak this year(haven't seen Crest play any tough competition). Andrews is still a question mark but they're the darkhorse .

I notice 3A/3AA is pretty west heavy, but you can't really tell how good
the teams are seeing as not many have faced tough competition. Only Western Alamance and Nothern Guilford have played serious competition and they both lost big to Butler and Page respectively.

Monroe has athletes and good size most years; however, it's not uncommon for them to lose to a less talented well coached team. They have a history of this.

Here are some stats to help figure out which dimension it is...

103 rushing attempts on the year to 137 passing
Avg. 113.2 rushing yards per game to 365.4 passing
5.5 avg yards per rushing attempt to 20.4 passing per attempt

Average 478.6 offensive yards per game. (3 of the 5 games were against top 12 3A competition)

I'd say...ah.... no....we have a double barrel shotgun.

Wow this thread is getting crazy. Shelby is on another level than any other 2A team it appears and as for Clinton, we have our own problems to fix. We have a young QB, young Oline, Young DLine, an injured starter (senior), we commit way to many penalties offensively, and we haven't looked all that good on passes this year. WE have to work a day at a time to get better, If anyone that is from Clinton is promising a title or that we will play in the championship game, needs to actually go to the games and put down the Cognac. WE have tremendous talent in a lot of areas, but we are short in other areas that are important as well. No one can predict the outcome, all I know is we have Coach Lewis and no one else does, and regardless the task, he will have these guys working hard each and everyday. But the Season starts Friday w/ Pender, Conference play begins, then it gets real. So who knows.
