I’ve been to Cheraw before. I love it that our program plays out of state teams because we’re very close to the 757 and they have some powerhouse programs. I’m sure you like it when your school plays out of state schools. Different programs and scenery, plus there’s always the excitement of what to expect.
I’m not to familiar with western nc football but I see you’re from Monroe so I’m assuming your a fan of theirs? I’ve been reading a lot of threads on here and posters are speaking highly of them as a strong contender in a stacked western field
I'm originally from Marshville and graduated from Forest Hills in 1990. I live north of Monroe almost in Stanly County but have a Monroe address. I'm not a fan of Monroe. They've been our fierce rivals for as long as they've played football. 50-60 years I guess. They were rivals when my mom was at FH in the late 60s. I'll pull for any of the teams in Union County but not Monroe. 😆
Lol, I understand. I think we all have that one team we can’t stand. Well I graduated from Northeastern in 91 so we’re close in age then. Is it true what I’ve been reading about Monroe? Are they a contender or a pretender. I may be mistaken but I believe Forest Hills is pretty strong this season as well.
Monroe's schedule has turned out weak this year. If you look at their schedule any other year it would be tough. Mostly 4A and 3A opponents but those opponents haven't had their normal seasons so it's hard to gauge Monroe. They play a tough 4A Porter Ridge team Friday. Porter Ridge hung with Cardinal Gibbons until the 4th quarter last week so they're talented. FH is getting back to old form. We have an outstanding transfer junior QB from Charlotte Providence High School who's pretty accurate and has a rifle arm but its our Defense that is really stout. Best I've seen in quite awhile. Everything that's happening now though you can give credit to our new coach. He is a class act. Won a Division II National Championship then moved here last year to coach high school.
Wow, now that’s a story. See that’s why I love these threads. I would’ve never known that about the FH coach. Now your going to cause me look him up and see his coaching resume. I’m assuming he must be a local or have some sort of connection with FH to go from successful D2 to turning a high school program around. I’m going to look FH up on NFHS and see if I can watch a game. Good post, thanks for sharing that.
He was at West Florida University. They actually haven't had a football program a long time and won the DII championship fairly quickly. They came up to our neck of the woods that year and played a ranked Wingate University in the playoffs and crushed them on their way to the title. FH's coach is Jammie Deese. He was offensive coordinator and receivers coach for West Florida.
West Florida came to our neck of woods and won a nail biter against our nationally ranked Lenior Rhyne Bears that same year as well.
If he's a godsend like he's being described here.....he want be there long. But if he leaves it better than he found it, maybe the next coach can sustain it.
He might not be a godsend but he's got us back on track so far. After being good for so long under the late Algie Faircloth then John Lowery it was a painful a 5-6 years of losing seasons including a 1-10 year. 🤢 Coach Deese got us to a 7-5 season last year and the second round of the playoffs in his first year.
So much for one of those in that conference. Princeton blowed Louisburg away last night.
I don’t think he’ll go anywhere for awhile. They’ve planted roots in Union County. Going to take one helluva offer to get him to leave FH. The administration and AD are truly committed to getting anything and everything he needs. Can’t say that for most schools.
If any coach goes for a possible head coaching spot it could be the defensive coordinator Coach Frank Toms. He's got that Defense playing lights out. He's from Shelby and played at Crest so he knows football. I heard Langzton Wertz of the Charlotte Observer praising him on the Talking Preps Show the other night.
