That’s actually what I think as well. This is a matchup that I’d love too. Two great programs!
IMO a lot will depend on how Murphy does in the non conference. Games against Franklin at WCU, at Heard County GA, East Surry, and at AC Reynolds are gonna be tough. If Murphy loses more than two of those then that may force the Dogs to go on the road in the later rounds of the playoffs, even if Murphy comes out of those games healthy (fingers crossed) and wins the rest of their games. I like Murphy to beat anyone in the west at home, but going on the road against the likes of Starmount, Corvian, or CSOD could be problematic.

As always, I expect you guys to be able to compete, and once again field a good team

Starmount ranked 5th in 2A is a question mark for most people in Yadkin and Surry County. I think most would put them much higher.
From what little I hear, the people around Boonville and Jonesville are really excited for this year to start.
Best of luck to them.

I wouldn't put them above Tarboro or Corvian (assuming Corvian isn't losing a lot). Murphy is also returning a good team, so at highest I would put Starmount tied at 3 with Murphy. You could probably argue either way for either being 3. I have no idea what CSD has (no idea of players or how good they are expected to be) so you could possibly move them to five.

Where do you think Starmount should be ranked?

I would certainly not put then above or even equal to Tarboro, but after that the people in Boonsville and Jonesville would argue that they could be 2, 3 or 4.
Corvian, well who knows what these full-time recruitment units can and will bring in. But my guess is they are no longer an overlooked team. People will plan for them, and they may get a helping of reality this year.

As to Starmount, they really should be very, very good this year. Much will be known the first game of the year about them when they come to Mt Airy.

I'd put starmount at number 3. Corvian graduated a lot from last year I think they'll still be a force to be reckoned with though. Murphy returns a lot so I personally would rank them over starmount. Starmount will still be in the mix come playoff time, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they played for a championship this year.

With what Tarboro has returning this season from last year, it's hard to see any preseason ranking that doesn't have them ranked number 1.

Starmount should be really good this year. I think the offense will be much different and more run oriented. The line won't be as big but it should be quicker than last year. I expect the defense to be very good.

East Wilkes will most likely be very tough this year. They've got several good athletes.

Agreed but that is about right if not too high. Lots of questions for the ‘Neers this year. One of the smallest Mitchell teams in years. Decent numbers and good skill but the line is small. Hope they prove me wrong, but next couple to few years may be tough in Ledger.

Go Mountaineers
The line will be the big question if they can vastly improve from last year I think we can surprise some people.

If you guys are down, I don’t expect you all to be down long

Murphy's non-conference games are the real deal, like trying to win a TikTok dance-off at a family reunion! Facing teams like Franklin at WCU is like getting into a hot dog eating contest with a pro—you gotta bring your A-game or risk a facepalm! If they drop more than two, it’s like stepping on a rake—total disaster! And traveling against the big dogs like Starmount and Corvian? They better pack extra snacks and maybe some lucky socks! But hey, they’ve got a solid squad coming back, so they better channel that 'Carolina State ego' at home. Road playoff intensity? That's a different kind of wild, like finding out your cousin is actually the best at cornhole!

Do you'll think Starmount's new offensive strategy will give them an edge over teams like Murphy and Corvian?

It seems like several teams have tough non conference games this year. Murphy has a tough one. East Surry has a brutal schedule which includes playing Starmount and Murphy. It will be interesting to see how both teams compete against East. They could potentially meet later in the playoffs.

I'm not sure what the offense for Starmount will look like this year. I expect a lot more running. They've got some good athletes at the skill positions. Remains to be seen if they will have the line to make it all come together.

I think a sleeper in the 2A is American Leadership Academy. My nephew played for one of their opponents last year, so I had the opportunity to watch them play, and they are very well-coached. I do not think they had any Seniors this past year either. In the East area, Tarboro is obviously the top dog, but I am interested in seeing what they can do.

Yea, I just cannot see them challenging Tarboro, but I’ve been wrong a time or two hundred lol

It wouldn’t be pretty…

No chance. Running clock at halftime.

EDIT: Teams that ALA beat have a record of 9-61 last year. One of the teams is responsible for 8 of those wins. That 8 win team also only beat terrible teams and lost to everyone else. Take that team out and that goes to 1-58. Teams that ALA lost to have a record of 12-19, (4-6, 2-8, 6-5). I know that was last years team, but even if they didn't lose anyone, I don't see them giving Tarboro a game.

Much respect to them as a program. However with what Tarboro has returning this year, I can't see them challenging Tarboro. Will eat crow if proven wrong but I can't see it.
