I've been following former MC RB Lawrence Pittman at Wingate the past couple of years. Why did he not end up at a D1? Kid is playing this year after a season ending injury last year. And he hasn't missed a beat. He is a dominant RB who can run with power and speed. Played on a state championship team, ran for over 2,000 yds as a senior in HS, and was a national player of the week in HS. I'm glad that he's at Wingate, but there are several D1 programs in NC that could use a player of his caliber.

Am in grad school with one of his offensive lineman, and he told me that he can’t believe how he wound up at Wingate.

Couple reasons and Nepsy can probably speak to it better than myself-

- came to MC as a senior and had sort of a injury / lazy reputation so he was a under the radar kid. That was a bad rep.

- overshadowed by Jaylen some as he had one of the best seasons in NC history that year.

- Never had the big time extra gear. Crazy hard runner with great quicks but was a kid that didnt run away from defenders.

He has been great for Wingate and is a physical beast now.

Jaylen was a... RB, QB, WR? Watch MC highlights on tv but never kept up with their players.

Where did Pittman transfer from? Was he a bigtime RB elsewhere? He is now a power back who can run away from everyone. Takes on defenders, breaks tackles, and throws defenders to the side. Reminds me of Leonard Fournette and Todd Gurley.

He was a transfer from East meck which was a train wreck back then. Lawrence played the single back and Jaylen Samuels played H- back. Jaylen scored 52 TDs in 2013 . One every 3.5 times he touched the ball.

Jaylen is now a all american at NC State

He shared the backfield with Jaylen Samuels. He game from East Meck. They told us he was lazy and played hurt all the time. They used him sparingly. He came to Mallard Creek and rushed for over 2000 yards. After 6 games last year @ Wingate, he was top 5 rusher Nationally all divisions. If you attend a Wingate game there are numerous NFL teams scouting him. He will definitely get a shot at the next level.

How do you share the backfield and rush for 2,000 yds? How many did Samuels rush for?

For those of us who follow 2A/3A ball, there were a number of years that no one paid any attention to 4A because it was a given that MC would win the state championship. If you know the outcome, why pay attention? Kind of like when Independence had their run. It was just a given.

Jaylen had over a 1000 yard rushing and about 700 in receiving ....

Watched 9 minutes of the video and got bored. Long runs, trucking everyone, and dominating. After a while it got old. Seems like he would have got an ACC offer? After about he 40th great run, I got it. He's really good. Many, many D1 coaches/recruiting coordinators missed on him. Seven or 8 recruiting coordinators in the ACC should be fired.

Looks like he was offered by Wingate, The Citadel, and Winston-Salem State. I think he made the right choice.

Also, looks like he ran a really bad 40 at a major ID camp as an uderclassman. Some folks looked at a number and marked him off the list.

As of signing day spring of his senior year had he qualified academically for FBS?

Didn't specifically ask such a question, although I wondered. Thought it might come up. Louisville was admitted into the ACC in 2012, so.... And West Virginia was out there. And ACC schools admit non qualifiers.
Stephen Davis eventually got into Auburn a long time ago.
