MAC week 2.

Asheville up 7-0. Battle td. About a 80 yard drive. Battle had about 55 yards that drive.

Newton conover scores on a Hail Mary for their first td on 4th and 8. They go up 8-7

Dayuuuum. That's what we need. What was up with the hail mary pass? Blown coverage or did they catch us corner blitzing?

Asheville throws a 50 yard td Aquila smith. 21-8. Newton conover has made it clear they want nobody else on their team touching the ball but number 1.

Cougar90 Daniels had the qb 15 yds behind the line of scrimmage but he threw one straight up in the air from the 28 yd line and one of our DBs miss times his jump

Nothing you can do about that. Those are the times I really miss Ricky Scott.

Asheville kind of imposing their will on newton conover now. Battle adds maybe 65 more yards and finishes with a touchdown. 27-8 asheville

Newton conover has moved the ball pretty well on us but their lone td was a jump ball on 4th and 8

Newton conover scores 27-14 Asheville. The Asheville defense is nowhere near what I thought we would be so far.

Almost reminds me of the Jekyll and Hyde team from 2012. One game the O shows up and the next game the D shows up but never both in the same game.

Asheville has been in complete control the entire game and in typical Asheville fashion, let up and NC is on the 20 yard line. The defense has been terrible

Good drive Asheville goes 80 yards when it matters most. Aquila smith 15 yard td. 33-21. It shouldn't even have come to this but good drive. 5 mins left

We better get some things fixed before conference play starts. I still don't like feeding Battle the ball that much and playing him on defense as well. Anything from Brewer tonight?

There is no way in hell brewer or Drummond should barely touch the ball 4 times. Poor battle out there getting hammered. He's as tough as they get though. He has to have 30 carries 200+ yards.

Asheville 35 newton conover 21 final. Not very impressed with the defense. For whatever reason Asheville has always put it into cruise control when we get a lead and for years we haven't put teams away. Up 27-8 and then we start screwing around and it becomes 27-21 at one point. We will take it but we aren't what I thought we'd be so far. Newton conover was pretty good but we really didnt step on their throat when we could have put them away.

Wow, sounds like the same ol' frustrating issues from before, trouble putting away opponents. Is there really no one else on the roster who play on defense in place of Battle? If he's going to be carrying the ball 25+ times a game, then its insane to have him play on defense too.

I have to believe the reason we're seeing a vanilla offense right now is we're saving it for conference play. Remember in '11 when we came back at Reynolds from 29-0 at half time and we came out 2nd half slinging the ball around and won? I have no excuse however for the remedial defense. A few weeks ago I was thinking our D would be pitching shutouts. I dunno. I do think our problems are fixable.

Agreed, the defense is surprisingly bad so far, willing to bet there were a lot of mis tackles in this game too, just hope they settle down and cut some of the mistakes before the game agaisnt Reynolds.

Shelby scores again. Shelby 56-39 with 2:00 in game. Good game for Rico. Speed is too much for AC.

From everything I'm hearing about Reynolds, we need to come out and bust their secondary in the chops. If we can get two or three scores in the air we can start pounding it and burn up the clock. Our defense is gonna have to get religion fast though.

Id be willing to bet this is the best receiving core we have had in the Wilkins era. Maybe we are letting the qb settle in before we start throwing it, but again we have to get those guys involved more on offense. Reggie battle is a monster but we just cannot keep allowing him to be hit to the ground 30 to 40 times a game on offense and defense.

Battle doesn't play full time on defense but he still plays quite a bit. Very disappointed in our corners tonight. I don't know how many times we were in a position to make a play on the quick screen pass and we would just whiff the receiver. Offense will be fine if Brewer and Drummond get more involved. Defense has some work to do but I think it's fixable. Newton-Conover was better than I thought but it still should've never been that close. Was impressed with Aquila tonight, he made some big plays on offense. He is almost impossible to bring down once he gets going.
