One week out of the way so we have a little better idea where teams stand. The big 3 all looked good from what I could tell. NB could be in the mix. Enka and Mcdowell both got a W. Roberson may me in trouble. Here are the week #2

Erwin at Mt Heritage
Reynolds at Shelby
Asheville at Newton Conover
Enka at Pisgah
Roberson at East Henderson
Avery at Mcdowell
North Buncombe at Madison

Erwin by 21?....I am making this pick with Damien Ferguson playing. He looked great Friday night throwing for 300+ yds and 5 td's. I am bias, but I was very impressed with Erwin vs a really good team. MH went on the road and beat a bigger school and they return all their players from two undefeated jv teams. If ferguson doesn't play I will take Erwin by 3.

Shelby by 6...Reynolds look to be one of the front runners in the MAC again with their win over a good WF club. Shelby is the defending state champion and this game is on their field so I think they will be too much for ACR.

Asheville by 7....Asheville got a big win over a good Franklin team last Friday and they travel to play another good team at Newton Conover. I think the Cougars will take this one in a close one.

Mcdowell by 21....Mcdowell has a decent team and Avery looks to be way down.

NB by 28....After seeing what West Henderson did to Madison I believe NB will have a field day with them. I told everyone the Hawks would give Pisgah all they wanted.

East Henderson by 1...Both teams look to have a down season so I will take the home team in a close one.

Pisgah by 14....Pisgah at home is always a tough win to come by. Enka got a w in the win column last Friday, but that will not happen this week.

Erwin by as many as they want it to be. They will simply out athlete Mtn. Heritage all over the field if Ferguson is healthy.

Reynolds by 7. Whoever has the ball last is going to win this shootout. ACR makes a huge statement win on the road this week against one of the top teams in the state regardless of classification. 42-35

Asheville by 3. NC looked impressive in the 7on7 at Erwin this summer. Not sure if they have an answer for Mr. Battle. Asheville kicks a late one and wins 24-21.

McDowell, NB both win big this week.

Roberson..... Lord knows what in the world is going on over there.....

What the Heck is wrong with Roberson? I mean every single year those kids walk off the bus and look the way you would draw up a team, but they just don't perform on the field.

My question, is it the administration? Is it the staff? The last staff didn't fare much better, but for a program with the athletes that Tcr has they should be much better.

They are good for a quality season once about every ten years or so. When Underwood was there they were quality and Suber they were quality. Other than that it is the same old same old. I don't think it is administration or coaching. The only thing consistent over there is the type of player they have. Football is just not their thing. To only score 7 points on North Henderson with all the talk of a great offensive line.... WUT????

I know Asheville gets criticized a lot about their fans, but Roberson is much worse. They have the worst fan support in WNC I believe. Last season they brought a few hundred to the game at Erwin. The year before they were at home and had a good team. Half the stands were empty and our fans filled them up. They have tons of money and athletes, but they just don't care about football. They love baseball and soccer and it shows.

Erwins starters will be on the sidelines before half time. 56-12 Erwin

Reynolds will win it late, but not by a TD. This will be a repeat of their opener and will be won by either a field goal or by a missed extra point by Shelby. 35-34 Reynolds.

Ashevilles defense will win this one again. Look for at least two pick sixes in this game. I think we have some things that are fixable but they won't all be fixed by Friday night. Asheville wins 35-21

Pisgah will beat Enka because #1 it's at Pisgah and #2 Enka can't win two games in a row against quality teams.

North Buncombe runs the score up on Madison something like 56 to 3. It gets ugly by the 3rd quarter.

TC gets beaten by East. East is not good either but they'll win this one.

McDowell over Avery. Why not?

I just wanted to throw my two cents in the pot about Shelby vs ACR.

While I believe Shelby is good, I got a feeling ACR is better. Not because of the jamboree, but because of the competition both team played Friday. I'm still not conveniced Freedom is really worth the talk just because they were leading Shelby for a short while. They're only offensive weapon is Emmons, which the kid is great but he can't do everything, plus I don't believe Freedom's defense is even close to ACR's. I don't know anything about West Forsyth other than they always seem to give ACR a hard time. Shelby's team is young, but very good to be young. With it being a home game and Shelby has the speed to compete I still wanna tip my hat to ACR. I think it's possible ACR scores more than a TD in route to a victory. But that's just my humble opinion.

I think your right crest91. I've been saying since way before the season started that ACR is loaded this year. I feel good about my Cougars, but we're playing way too many guys both ways. ACR has size, speed, and athletes and they can platoon. I'm not giving them a crown yet, but I think they're a lot more complete this year than they have been in the past. About the only negative thing I can say about ACR is some seriously questionable play calling at times. But then again I'm not a coach.

Crest91 in all seriousness Emmons is not the only offensive weapon Freedom has.
We have plenty of weapons, just need someone to use them. In all honesty,
with our current scheme, I would say ACR is the better team.

It should be a fun one for sure. Saw where Darquez Lee threw for like 300+ yards. Our question mark from last week was definitely the secondary. Our corners played the vertical route poorly and mistimed some jumps on 50/50 balls. If the D can get off of the field on 3rd down I like our chances with Rico and AJ. Don't bring your safties down in the box or Rico will blow the top off with a deep ball. He had a beautiful ball to Keyal Talbert for a 65-yd TD pass. Always fun to play Shelby. I know Ware and Laws are good buddies and I'm sure it is a blast for them as well. This is a statement game for ACR if they win or hang tight. The speed on the field this coming Friday is going to be unreal.

Erwin 21
ACR 3
Cougars 14
Bears 21
TC wins 2-0 east snaps ball in back of end zone with no time left on clock.
MCDowell 17
NB 28. Best team in MAC not name Asheville,Reynolds or Erwin.

Rocketpride I think you guys have a new biggest fan. I'm not sure if cougar90 is our fan or yours.

Damn dude. It's called respect. There are people, players and coaches all over NC that are stepping up and making a name for themselves and their programs. I don't think it's out of line to point that out, even if they are our rivals. Personally I don't give two craps if a kid is wearing red, green, blue or pink on Friday night. If his team is doing a good job I'm going to tell them so. BTW, there has been at least one member of my family wearing a Cougar uniform every few years since the 1960's. I've been around since before Wilkens and Fogle and Steadman. And my own kids have played on past Asheville teams.

Didn't you know that you are only allowed to bash other schools on here? I think you are one of the better posters on here, so I wouldn't pay attention to the negative people.

Rico and AJ are the real deal I have watched their hudl videos and they both look like D1 backs. I do think Shelby matches up better with spread teams, then they do the line it up and pound it teams, but we will find out Friday. Shelby is loaded on offense. They have all their line back from last year except 1 and they have the Wright kid who had a good night against AC as a soph. The Camp kid is special and Borders at WR is a D1 level player. Going to be a lot of good athletes on the field. Whoever has the ball last should win.

Reynolds is a spread team, but this year they are much more run-oriented than they have been in the past.

Erwin by 35
Reynolds by 3
Asheville by 21
Pisgah by 14
North Buncombe by 28
McDowell by 14
Roberson by 1

Rank'em
#1 ACR - bigger win, Shelby would be huge
#2 Asheville - good win, see what happens when you throw the ball
#3 Erwin - QB Ferguson needs defensive help
#4 NB - should have thrown to WR Matthews more
#5 TCR - Brett Chappelle would turn this program into a power
#6 Enka - better than #7 McDowell

Looks pretty good. The top 3 are very close to each other. You really can't fault Erwin for losing Friday to a quality team. No offense to the other MAC teams, but nobody in this conference could have stopped Mt Paran's ground game. Two many future college players coming at you.

I think NB is a sleeper. I don't think they beat the top 3, but they could on a off night for one of those teams.

I disagree about Chappelle. He has the entire community behind him as well as the players at Pisgah. That is not happening at Roberson.

Agreed on Enka.

Erwin by 35
Reynolds by 7
Asheville by 7
Pisgah by 14
Roberson by 1? (I don't think i've ever been more off the mark with a prediction before)
Mcdowell by 20
North Buncombe by 24

Erwin and Mountain Heritage: Erwin gets their first win of this early season here. If Ferguson plays they win by 60. If he doesn't play they win by 45. If Austin, Poore, Ferguson and coach Sexton don't show up, Erwin by 21.

Reynolds at Shelby: Probably the game of the week for any WNC team. Shelby will throw it all over the field and have as much speed if not more than Reynolds. I have heard that Reynolds weakness is their secondary. Also, we know that Shelby always plays Crest very tough, crest being notorious for running the ball, which is what Reynolds wants to do. Shelby outscores Reynolds 42-28.

Enka at Pisgah: Good win last week against Owen. I don't think the runningback gains that many yards this week against Pisgah. Pisgah wins 27-14.

Avery at McDowell: McDowell I guess. 9-7.

TC Roberson at East Henderson: TC Roberson might be the most underachieving high school football team in North Carolina. I find it absolutely unfathomable that a team that looks that athletic can lose to North Henderson. No disrespect to North Henderson, but Roberson with that many students should NEVER lose to a team like North Henderson that has about 24 players on its roster. I don't know if its coaching or the players not listening or something but if Roberson can lose to North Henderson, they can lose to anybody. They better win this week because they are going to lose HUGE against Freedom and Crest the following weeks after that. Im still saying East Henderson 27- 7.

North Buncombe at Madison: North Buncombe surprised me at Pisgah last week by almost winning. North Buncombe gets their first win of the season easily. 42-7.

Asheville at Newton Conover: Newton Conover beat Highland Tech 54-0. I don't know what Highland Tech is but im certain they aren't any good, but they did beat them by a huge margin. I dont know anything about them. If we win by 1 that's good with me. Asheville 35-14.

Yeah TCR losing to NH is a real head scratcher, I would also love to know whats going on over there, Is the coaching really that bad? I know like many of their teams from before has the potential to be really dangerous, but will they ever get their poo together?

Asheville by three touchdowns. Any team that blitzs and the game is on a silver platter. Highland Tech last week had 16 players who were 9th and tenth graders as well. 1A school with no wins for years.

AHSDYNASY, when you get a chance go on Isaiah Drummond's hudl page and look at the first 3 highlights from the Franklin game last week. The first one, Drummond gets hit pretty far out of bounds and there is no call on Franklins sideline, the second play is Drummond and Daniels making a tackle out of bounds and there is no CHANCE in hell it was a late hit, and they call it a late hit and tack on 15 yards. I know refs make mistakes but my god, these are blatant terrible calls. Jeez.

Yeah I noticed that during the game. Definitely some bad calls but it ended up evening out some. You going down to Newton tomorrow?

If either of you guys makes it to NC tonight how bout throwing up some updates. I gotta work tonight.

First play of the game they call a 15 yd penalty on Asheville for sideline infraction.
