Asheville - Battle will gain almost 200 yards vs Franklin?

ACR - Logan & Dowdle, a spread offense that won't have to throw much?

Erwin - Ferguson, best throwing QB in the MAC

NB - Blake Matthews, best WR in the MAC

The real matchups this week are:

Franklin at Asheville
Owen at Enka
Pisgah at North Buncombe
West Forsyth at Reynolds
North Henderson at Roberson
Mount Paran Christian (GA) at Erwin
McDowell at RS Central

Looks like every Buncombe County team in the MAC has a home game.

Franklin at Asheville: Don't know much about franklin this year. They always play hard and have some big guys. Hopefully the atmosphere will intimidate them a little and we don't turn the ball over. Asheville 35-14.

Owen at Enka: Another game you don't really know about. Owen replaces Jager Gardner and their head coach who was there since forever. Enka was picked to finish last in the MAC, Owen was picked to finish 5th I think. Enka 20 Owen 20 and they will choose not to play OT.

Pisgah at North Buncombe: Pisgah gets revenge after last year. Pisgah 27-14

West Forsyth at Reynolds: Everybody talks about AJ Logan and Rico Dowdle. Both good players. I don't think West Forsyth has ever lost to Reynolds, I could be wrong. West Forsyth 28-21.

North Henderson at Roberson: What a boring game. Roberson 49-7

Mount Paran Christian at Erwin. Nobody knows anything about Mount Paran. I heard from a couple Murphy guys they gave Erwin all they wanted. Erwin could destroy Mount Paran...or vice versa. Erwin 21-20

McDowell at RS Central. 3-0 Mcdowell

They lost too reynolds in 2011 but reynolds had to forfeit the game due to an ineligible player being on the roster who didn't even play in the game. I believe West Forsyth has twice as many students as reynolds so it makes for a tough match up.

Yea, kudos to Reynolds for continuing to play them. It will be a good test for Reynolds in week 1.

West has about 630 more students (about 1380 students vs 2010 students). Still a big difference, but roughly the same as the difference between Owen (835 students) and ACR, who I believe play every year and have for decades.

I believe Franklin lost 20+ seniors, so they will not be the same team they were last year, Cougars are usually a little sloppy to start the season, but I still see them winning by a touchdown or 2. Asheville by 14

Owen doesn't have Jager Gardener anymore, I seriously doubt if they have anyone good enough to replace him, Enka is pretty deep, but do they have any decent talent? Owen by 7

Don't know anything about Pisgah, I now NB returns there QB and WR duo from last year, that's about as much as I know about them too. NB by 1

The Rockets are pretty loaded this season, but can they get over hump against West Forsyth? ACR by 3

I don't ever remember North Henderson having a good football team, It should be all Rams in this one. TCR by 35

Mount Paran Christian was an undefeated private school from Ga last year, I have no clue how they'll stack up against Erwin though, so I'll just go with the local school. Erwin by 1

Neither teams are ever that good, but I guess I'll just go with the in conference team, Mcdowell by 1

Asheville by 10. It's our first game of the year. We will turn the ball over 4 times, have 120 yards in penalties and the visitors side concession stand will run out of cheese for the nachos 10 minutes into the game. But we will still win because our run game is freakin' nasty.

ACR by 12. ACR is doing it's best to stay below the radar right now, but they are going to be scary good this year. If their defense is as good as I think their offense will be, watch out. If they stay healthy the whole season they might make a run.

Enka by 3. Those boys and their coaches have worked their butts off this year. They're due, and Owen is hurting right now without their key players from last year. Could just as easily go either way though.

North Buncombe by 1. Just because I haven't seen Pisgah play this year.

Roberson by 7. Because Roberson has the richest parents in Buncombe county and all the players will have new cleats and equipment.

Erwin by 3. Erwin lost some real playmakers to graduation but as long as Bucky Tarr is on the sidelines they can pull anything off. Look for some young studs to either step up in this game or be embarrassed, either way this game should make them better.

McDowell by 1. Because they are a MAC team and I just can't go against them.

Remember the names Demarcus Harper, Cyrus Hooper, Sidney Gibbs, Antonio Mcdowell, Dexter Andrews, Kendrick Weaver and Bryson Fowler. We got some ballers. It's like every other senior class where you graduate guys and next man up. If you think the well is dry, your wrong. There are very few Jagers in the WNC high school world so dont base everything off that. We will be young but we are fine. Owen wins this thing by 12 but I will take 1. This Varsity team won the JV conference championship as a unit and Demarcus Harper and Dexter Andrews were starting on Varsity as sophs. Plus we add sophomores in Sidney Gibbs and Antonio McDowell to the team plus freshmen Kendrick Weaver. McDowell broke his shoulder but will be back around conference time so that hurts.

Asheville 21 Franklin 14 - Franklin has played teams like Asheville in the playoffs and done quite well, but it is week 1 so I will give the Cougars the edge.

WF 28 ACR 21 - This should be a great game but I have to go with history of these two.

Owen 21 Enka 20 - This could go either way. You have new coaches and your stud player is gone. I think Owen will pull it out in the end.

NB 35 Pisgah 28 - NB will be a tough out for some teams this season. I think they might just have enough to pull this one out.

RS Central 14 Mcdowell 7 - Im going with the home team.

Roberson 42 NH 21 - Will Roberson step up this year. They more money and athletes than almost any school in Buncombe County..

Erwin 24 - MT Paran 21 - Probably wishful thinking on my part. I watched this team on film and they are the real deal. They remind me of Charlotte Catholic, only much faster. Contrary to what is said about a scrimmage game, Erwin will be fine offensively. I was really surprised that they looked good defensively with the loss of Chancey. With the exception of one blown play Murphy did not go anywhere.

Franklin at Asheville: Asheville 31-14. Reggie Battle is just too much for Franklin to handle all night. Dominant win by Asheville with a late touchdown scored late by Franklin to make it look closer.

Owen at Enka: Owen 28-14. Enka has to prove they can win before I pick them.

Pisgah at North Buncombe: North Buncombe 35-28. I'll take an air raid over a smaller school week one. Could go either way.

West Forsyth at Reynolds: ACR 35-24. Looking forward to watching this one. Hope our defense is as solid against the run as they have been in our two scrimmages.

North Henderson at Roberson: TCR 42-21. More athletes.

Mount Paran Christian (GA) at Erwin: Erwin 35-31. I have no idea how good this bunch y'all are playing is. But good luck.

McDowell at RS Central: McDowell 28-21.

Asheville by 7. Think this will be a tough game for Asheville. Franklin will definitely be tough and won't turn the ball over much.

WF by 7. I know they still have some serious talent as does Acr, but I think their defense may be a little better. Could be wrong here though for sure. Lots of talent at Act.

Mt Paran by 14. Honestly I just don't think Erwin is ready for this test yet. Mt. Paran looks really good on film, and Erwin's breaking in some new players. This is why the schedule is tougher though. Erwin may not win Friday night, but it will certainly help us in the long run.

Owen by 14

McDowell by 1

Roberson by 21

Pisgah by 3

You know for everybody to be salivating so much over Reynolds, it's worth noting they are not picked to win their conference and they aren't ranked in any poll in the top 20 in 3a. I could be wrong and they could just blow through everybody, but for the last 4 months it has been literally nothing but aj Logan and Rico dowdle. Those guys are very good players, but if Reynolds is gonna be "scary good" they better have more than that.

Thanks for the bulletin board material.

You do know there are other teams in WNC other than Asheville. Everything does not have to be about them.

Not being picked to win your own conference and not being picked by statewide voters to be a top 20 team in 3A is your bulletin board material and I had nothing to do with those two.

Not being a smarta**, but why was Asheville picked to win the conference or state ranked. Those people that do the rankings have no clue what they are doing. They probably never set foot in WNC. Reynolds has a legit D1 running back and good talent around him. What would constitute Asheville being ranked above ACR in your opinion? Pre season polls are usually trash. Very rarely are they ever right.

I think both teams will be good this year. I think Erwin could be there too, but they have to stay healthy and not get demoralized if they take some loses to these out of state teams.

Asheville returns the most all conference players including the most highly recruited player in WNC. They have beaten Reynolds 4 straight times. They haven't lost to a team from western North Carolina since 2012. They return a runningback with over 3,000 rushing yards. They have won 12 of the last 13 mountain athletic conference championships and haven't lost a football game at Reynolds since BEFORE 9/11 happened. That's why.

and zero state championships this millennium. Enjoy your conference championship shirts bud.

The biggest thing about playing stronger teams is just staying healthy as the games will be more physical, and your starters will play all four quarters. If you guys can stay healthy I expect you to challenge for first in the conference.

That is what I am worried about this season. The two teams we play out of Tennessee have rosters nearing 100 players. Teams like that will pound on you all night.

Last time I checked 2005 is this millennium. I'm not going to get into the whole Reynolds or Asheville debate. I respect Reynolds and I think both teams will be solid this year.

Why must you hijack every DAMN thread on this board. We all know about Asheville and respect them. I like the other guys from Asheville that post on here though.

Lol you are right that one back fired on me. I have nothing but respect for Asheville. There have been some of the best and wildest games I have ever seen between these two schools with Asheville coming out on top on most of the wild finishes.

I honestly think all 3 deserve to be ranked in the top 15-20 preseason in 3a with what each team has coming back. Not much respect given to the MAC in the polls.

Bdwarrior you just asked me why I thought Asheville should be ranked higher than Reynolds preseason and I told you why, then you say I hijack every thread. Lol this year is gonna be the same as it always is, between Reynolds Asheville and Erwin. Is that ok to say?

Fair enough. I get burnt out a little with these boards, but I have learned to not take it so serious.

I think you will be surprised by Pisgah. We will find out Friday.

I would not be surprised either way. I just don't see Pisgah winning by 20.

It's the first game and 20 sounded like a good round number.BD do you know who it was Erwin or Pisgah that decided not to play each other?

I didn't really know much at all about them but after talking to some coaches and some family members down in that area of Georgia, Erwin could have a tough time with Mt. Paran. That's no slight to Erwin, Mt. Paran is just a good program.

There are a couple of things working in Erwin's favor though, first is the fact that Mt. Paran graduated A LOT of talent off their state championship team. Mt. Paran's starting QB, starting RB and top WR all graduated. Another thing that will help is the fact that this a home game for Erwin against what is going to be a young Mt. Paran team.

Now I'm not sure those factors will be enough to get the win but Erwin has a MUCH better chance of beating the 2015 Mt. Paran team than they would've the 2014 team. Mt. Paran does return one stud player though, #5 RB/CB Taylor Trammell. If Erwin can keep him in check they've got a legitimate shot.

that's Trammell's hudl highlights, will probably be the best skill player Erwin sees all season.. 6'2 195 lb stud athlete.

If he weren't an Under Armour All American and Georgia Tech signee in baseball (who will get drafted pretty high out of high school) he'd be a big time football recruit.
