MAC Final week

Gowarrior I have to tell you personally. Congrats. I will never compare scores from other games again. This will now go down as the worst team in the Wilkins era as far as the MAC in concerned. We have never finished in 3rd place in the MAC before the last 15 years and that's what we did tonight. Coach Sexton is a hell of a coach and you can just watch his team and know they are well coached. Last year we pummeled Ferguson all night and he was rattled. This game tonight it was clear as day that they game planned for him to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible.

As for us, where do I begin. Erwins players wanted it more, Erwins fans wanted it more and Erwins coaches wanted it more. And who the hell decided we should wear those ugly ass jerseys?
If you would have told me at the beginning of the game we would hold Erwin to 20 points I would have taken it in a heartbeat. What I saw out there offensively was disgusting to watch. As I said during the game. With 7 mins left in the game we were only down 8 points and there were multiple people around me leaving the stadium saying they were just fed up and couldn't watch anymore. Erwin hasn't beaten Asheville at Asheville High in a minimum 15 years. They deserved to win and mostly, we deserved to lose. This team, starting with the big guy, are lethargic and apathetic. When one guy would go down with an injury, they wouldn't cheer for their teammates who were still playing, they just sat on the bench and pouted. That's pitiful and unforgivable.
Having said that, it was amazing to me to see Erwin running a 5-6 man front on defense and us continue to run it up the middle. I don't have a problem with us being a running team. Hell run it every play, but to continue to let Reggie just get hammered with 9 guys in the box is insane. Its a shame he has played his final game at Asheville High.
Well we will be down the mountain next week somewhere I imagine....well some fans will be.
Congrats to BD, Ehs, ai and gowarrior.

The way it's been the last couple years no. 2 and no. 3 finishers in the Mac played the next week.

I honestly didn't think the play calling was that bad. We threw it quite a bit, we just didn't execute. Had two or three balls overthrown that likely would've been td's.
What game were you watching? Are you kidding me? North Buncombe scored 32 points on them! The head coach lost that game he was out coached period! There is not another coach in the state of North Carolina that would lose that game to Erwin! No offense to you Erwin fans but that Asheville team had no business losing to that Erwin team!

Wonder what team we'll have to face next week. The 3aa west is absolutely loaded this year. After tonight's performance, it'll be a miracle to make it out of the 1st round.

Oh, ok got you. Yea we are looking terrible lately. We had a state championship caliber team last year and blew it. This team never had a chance.

Penalties, mistakes, bad snaps, bad passes, missed blocking assignments, no heart, no passion. We threw more than we had all year. We got outcoached but the loss is not only on the coaches.

Well when you have 8 and 9 players in the box, and run up the middle. You not gone win when we only have 7 blockers. For coaches to keep calling it, yeah it is on the coaches, what you won't the players to do block two players? Then when it's time to pass you rusty because your QB and WRs haven't had enough reps in game situations

Everybody is catching up to the style of O AHS runs, plain and simple.
I don't think there is any doubt you can see the upper level MAC teams are basically in our huddle. They know the plays and they know what our tendencies are. Listening to Bobby poss on the radio before the game and you would have thought he was one of our coaches the way he dissected everything we want to do offensively...although its no mystery.
As I said after the Franklin game...you can be a running team, but eventually you will have to pass the ball if someone stops your running game and if you throw 107 passes through 10 games, you cant expect all of a sudden to throw the ball 25 times in a game and expect it to work. In the 3rd quarter we had a 4th and 7 and ran a hitch to Drummond, it was so incredibly off that Drummond hadn't even turn for the ball before the ball went flying by his head. The line needs game reps passing the ball, the receivers need game reps passing the ball and mostly the QB needs game reps passing the ball. To think we were just gonna start throwing it all over the field and it be effective in week 12 is just dumb. We deserved what we got tonight. A BIG FAT UGLY LOSS.

Couldn't have said it better

As fan, when I watch Erwin and Reynolds offenses out on the field, I have no clue where the ball is going to go. As an Asheville fan, its very obvious what we are going to do on offense. When you have a QB who isn't a running threat and you run the ball 85 percent of the time, its pretty clear the ball is either going to the runningback or fullback.

With our offense you need to execute. Can't afford penalties, mistakes, and turnovers. Poss knows our offense cuz he ran basically the same offense at Reynolds. And as ahscougar1 said, our offense had so much success in the early to mid 2000s because we had an athletic QB who was a running threat. Our style of offense isn't that effective without a fast QB or an explosive tailback that. Can take it to the house on any play.

We know AHS has the athletes, year in and out. Look at Shelby, crest, havlock, east Lincoln, teams that have dominated lately. All have one thing in common, spreading the field to all those athletes and not one dimensional

Please explain this to me because from what I saw Asheville got whipped up front, and your quarterback is very inaccurate. Erwin was better than Asheville in almost every aspect. Asheville high is mediocre at best. Face the facts your huge offensive line can't block, and your quarterback cant throw. Don't see how that's on the coaches.

7-8 guys cannot consistently block 10. We aren't even mediocre. We came in 3rd in the MAC. With the talent we have on that roster, that should be damn near impossible. But most of our guys were better as sophomores than they are as seniors.
Erwins offense outplayed us, Erwins defense outplayed us. Even their special teams were far better. We were not very good this year and we likely have 1 game left.

Have u watched them lately? They spread it out, in shotgun but still run it. They will have 3 wide outs, all I'm saying is keep the opponent guessing
I don't know how I feel about our "traditional I formation" offense. On the one hand its good because its a power offense that is good with ball control. But look around the state now and see what kind of teams run the offense we run. Franklin...Pisgah...teams who are kind of built to run downhill because they have very very few athletes who can make guys miss and take it to the house. The only way a defense can put 9 guys in the box against your offense is if you let them. We have the athletes the last 10 years to have 3-4 wide receivers and a great RB that will operate in tons of space. The perfect example of that was Denzel McKnight. At Asheville High his jr year he basically was a non factor. He had like 10-15 catches all year. The following year at Erwin he had like 2,000 all purpose yards because they found ways to get him out in space. Our guys are NEVER out in the open field because they are pounding away between the tackles and getting pummeled.

Erwin had 7-8 in the box. Might've had 9 or 10 on a couple of the 3rd and shorts but they consistently just had 8 in the box.

Thanks for being classy Ahscougar1. We have had our heated exchanges over the years but you have been class act this year. I get burnt out on the same ol crap on here hence the break from the board for a while. I'm a little surprised that cougarsofahs is taking cheap shots at us, not his style. I know Asheville has a dominant record over Erwin and everyone else in the mountains. You have to admit that Erwin is far from a doormat program anymore. As for volsfan12, give me a break. Erwin has 4 losses this season to great teams. If they played a normal schedule they would be 9-1 tonight. Who cares about the NB game. We played like sh## and it showed. We played Reynolds closer than anyone else has and played Roberson about the same as Asheville. It's ridiculous to downplay this win for Erwin by saying Asheville is in a down year. They are 9-1 and highly ranked in the state. You can't downplay this win. Congrats to Damien Ferguson and Isaiah Poore for stepping up. I knew Erwin was capable of this all year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brewer transfered to Erwin, I would. He would be the best WR in WNC.

My fault BD no cheap shots at Erwin, just frustrated with this years team. But it is what it is. We all will be waiting tomorrow for brackets and see who we got

Guys, as I said in the other thread, congrats to the Warriors for laying a butt whoopin' on my Cougars tonight. As far as laying the blame on the coaches......whatever. The only thing I'll blame our coaches for is letting players take their pads off on the sideline and sit on the bench. Those guys should have been escorted off the field by the nap of their necks. Most disrespectful thing I've ever seen in my life. I'm just disgusted with the way we played and acted tonight.

Looks like that tough non-conference schedule paid off for Erwin.
Experiencing what big time TN football is made Asheville seem like a softee.
Those butt whippings are worth it when you can drop Asheville to #3 in the MAC.

Six points? Should of saved that Halfback Pass for Erwin instead of using it against NB. Here's Asheville again at the end of the year, finally trying to find a passing game that only gets used in practice against the scrubs.

What was up with that? They really lost their cool. Who was the kids that took his jersey off?

This was definitely a reversal of the 2013 game at the high. That is the first time I have seen Erwin win the line of scrimmage against us and that is ultimately why they won the game.

I won't put the kids name on here but it was an embarrassing night all the way around for the Cougars.

No worries. I have certainly been on the other end of this rivalry many times. It is defiantly frustrating.

No one likes to lose, us AHS fans have been spoiled threw the years, now teams are catching up to us into we change our O, imo.

Both teams suck period! Both will lose next week and if not for sure in the second round! And no playing that schedule doesn't help! You get nothing out of getting your ass kicked! They won tonight because they were the better team and wanted more than the baby's wanted it! Playing a tough schedule had nothing to do with it!

If we play defense like we played the first games of the year(Mt. Paron) then Erwin has a chance. AHS always plays us tough. Coach Wilkins sets his defense to keep our team from having long scoring plays. He uses his ground game to cut the game short.(clock control) On the other hand we have to crash the line of scrimmage and play defense on AHS side of the ball. Erwin needs to keep Asheville's offense guessing where they are coming from. Should be a competitive game. Senior night and honoring 2005 St.Championship team. A loaded up night for high school football. See you there.
There you go. Erwin team came to play like earlier in the year. Congrats Warriors. I think we may be ready for the playoffs.
