MA @ STARMOUNT - Sat at 7

What a great time to be a Bear Fan. Every game is that game. The Rams host a very daunting task For this Bears team. It’s another one of those as North Surry and East Surry games. A RIVALRY GAME, in a very adverse environment. Well thank goodness the Bears have been here already this year and have stepped up to the plate each time. They have played in this atmosphere not just this year but throughout the two year run and a couple state championships to boot. I think the attitude in practice this week will be buisness as usual and no unneeded pressure applied. This is a program defining game for the Rams and it’s another game for the bears against a quality opponent. I can’t imagine the pressure on the rams kids to meet the expectation the community has put on them. I truly hope it’s a good game. I think also one would be awful nieve to think the pressure is on the bears , after all rumor has it this is a down year and all the talent has left for Blacksburg. A junior laden team , that has come to the expectation to win. Winning is a habit right? This group and coaching staff has an awful good habit of finding a way to win. Just saying. The Bears will be honored to play the role of the Dawg on Friday night. After all these boards have said it’s a down year in the granite city. I mean again just saying. I would say that in booneville Friday night you will find a group of Bears and coaches ready to take advantage of the opportunity to convert some doubters into believers,

The same thing can be said about the Ram players and coaches. Maybe they want to turn doubters into believers and this is their chance. A date that’s been circled on every Ram player and coach’s calendar.

Who knows what will happen as we are talking about teenagers?

Just glad to see the excitement back at Starmount.

Should be an entertaining thread this week!

Biggest game at Starmount since the 2014 1AA Western Finals versus Swain County (state championship trip on the line).

Most anticipated matchup at Starmount since the 2003 Elkin-Starmount matchup on Halloween night. The biggest crowd I have seen at Starmount in 25 years. It was a traffic and parking nightmare with Trick or Treating going on along with the game. Fans were there at 4:00 tailgating.
You know Deanna I saw some of your posts on past Starmount teams. I agree with you on the great Rams teams you mentioned, but one. 1998 1A State Championship Rams team that held on to win 22-20 against NW Edgecombe in title game!! That was a good Starmount team!!

The defense for both teams. So far Starmount hasn't given up any points. And MT Airy has given up 14. For Starmount win or lose thats going to change this coming week. Prediction MT Airy 31-10 Starmount.

No one has ever said it was a down year and making it to State is still the plan. But this team is not better than years past as some would have you believe......YET! And yes 2 D1 players at VT are hard to replace in 1A football. With expectations comes pressure period! gdawg I respect the hell out of your post and opinion.

STM 1st.4 opponents are 5-14 MA 1st 4 11-8 with 4 losses coming at hands of Bears. I think STM is good but how good!
Rain Friday! Looks as if STM likes to throw!
You are right Buzzcoach.
The Weather channel shows these chances of rain in Yadkinville, NC. Chances of rain Thursday thru Tuesday with the best chances on Friday, 93 %.

I have my complete rain suit ready and waiting. I have no fear that the tide will flow steadily and mightily in the Bears favor.

Bears welcome the wet of a roaring river to eat their fill of salmon. The same will be true Friday night, I have faith, as I know of no situation where Rams/lambs enjoy entering the water, much less a roaring river.

Bears by at least 21.

It would be amazing if MA repeats this year. Besides the D1 players losing Stroup,Revels,Reid and Galimore is big. This game should be good measuring stick for the teams. Lot of pressure on the new head coaches

Yes, it would. They are focused on making their mark in our storied history. MA is not a 2-year wonder. Rich tradition. This team is getting better every week, and they are pretty good now.

Don't forget MA also lost Landon Cox, center and linebacker, who may have been an MVP any other year.

Also, people fail to mention 6' 7" Spencer Baldwin who played in the East West All Star game. Yes, 8 legitimate All Region type players.

Deric Dandy, Tyler Mason, Ian Gallimore, Mario Revels, Caleb Reid, Walker Stroupe, Landon Cox and Spencer Baldwin. Lineman Anderson DeVore contributed greatly as well.

Don't forget that lifetime class (generational seems too narrow), had some pretty dang good sophomore and junior football players.

So, what this 2024 team and coaching staff are doing is amazing. Don't go thinking the Bears are hibernating

Go Bears!

I guess every tradition is rich in some ways. I’ll never forget how dominant the bears were in the 1890s. Only loss was because their cleats and socks got wet crossing the river. Had to play the game a day late because one of the wheels fell off the wagon.

What a opportunity this is for StarMount. Imagine how big a win would be over the back to back state champs. Then for MA, this is an opportunity to silence any naysayers who believe they have taken a huge step back this season. With the way the way to early RPI projections are looking, this game COULD decide the 1 seed in the west. I'm leaning towards the bears in a close one. But a StarMount win wouldn't surprise me to much either.

I’m thinking 35-21 Bears. Starmount isn’t as tested in big games. Could be different if they get another shot in the playoffs.

Mt. Airy posters, if you are googling directions to the game and keep getting pictures of Pontiac sedans, you spelled Boonville wrong. Just a friendly heads up.

I believe if North Iredell would have played Starmount. It would have been a competive game for Starmount.

I don't think it would have been close. North Iredell is a 1 trick pony. Yes it was a close game last year but this year Starmount seems to be a different animal. North is still just North. Starmount would have gotten a boost in RPI though with North playing North Lincoln, Statesville, Hickory, and East Lincoln. AC and South going .500 likely would have helped too.

OL: Starmount(pass blocking) Mt Airy (run blocking)
DL: Mt Airy
LB: Starmount
DB's: Toss up
WR's: Starmount
Punter: Starmount
Kicker: Possibly Mt Airy(Starmount has two kickers)

What is everyone else's thoughts?

Can Starmount stop the MA running game and make them pass more than they want. MA defense not going to give up much on the ground

You are basing STM on the opponents they have played.

I was trying to base it on last year this year and film. Which ones do you disagree with? To me there are 3 spots that have a clear cut "winner". QB, RB and Punter. The other spots have some room for debate. What are your thoughts?
