Joey Robinson retires

Joey was a great coach. I thought he might, it gets to a point that after 30 years you're no longer adding to your state retirement benefits.
I've made the joke that it took a Mitchell county man to turn around Mtn Heritage football but it was also Mitchell's stupidity not to move him up the ranks to head coach after Riddle left.

Coach Brewer at McDowell, Coach Carter at Alexander Central and now Coach Robinson at MH-are these guys retiring at this point in the school year to give the schools an opportunity to find their replacements or is this all a coincidence?
If they still want to coach in NC it gives them the opportunity to take 6 months off and take over a program late or be an assistant somewhere this fall.

Wow. I always heard he actually took the job once upon a time, then Mitchell County took over ? Mitchell county gonna Mitchell county. Nonetheless, he’s been a heck of a coach for along time. Go Vikings. It’s all lining up boys !

Joey Robinson is what is right with hs athletics. Now he had to work his ass off to build a program that was nothing, zero, almost fired, laughingstock of WNC. Yancey county will never be the same, he took a fledgling program and won multiple conference championships and regional championships and even state runner ups! All of this from a program that just hoped not to finish last in the conference!

Many places would not have stuck with Coach Robinson. He struggled early on as he built his program. But he went down to the youth group and started building with 4th graders. It took him 6 years to have a winning record, but once those kids got to high school they never looked back.

Not familiar with coach as I don’t follow Mtn heritage closer since I’m not closer to the mtn but ik they are always a top program!

Congratulations on his retirement

Robinson has done a marvelous job in building the Mountain Heritage football program. He recognized the talent he had and developed an offense that was successful and he taught the defense how to play the game. I hope MH can get the same type of individual as Robinson to continue to lead the program forward. The good folks of Burnsville and Yancey County deserve that!

If Pope stays on the staff I'd say he'd be the top dog to get the job but I'm not sure if the Admin is looking to hire from the inside... Could be wrong but Popes got my vote
Pope would be fine , one from East yancey would really be good to. Heard it’s up to principal and school board

Since heritage is moving up to 3a , it’s time to bring back traditional j v football 9 th and 10th. You have Hendersonville, Owen and Madison ,Polk all 3 a schools now they all can do that. Ey and c river can combine and make middle school team they can play the other 3a teams middle school teams.

Congrats to Mr. Robinson. Good luck to him in retirement. Wonder if he will go somewhere else (private school or such)and coach or just hang it up.

Go Mountaineers
If he's inclined to keep coaching, would it make sense to go somewhere in Tennessee or could he go to one of the private schools around Asheville? I'm not sure what the commute would be like, but it shouldn't take that long to get to Asheville since they finished U.S. 19 to I-26.
