JimBob Bryant to Freedom

Otis, cmon man. Saying Bryant didn't build anything at Havelock is insane.
Obviously you have an issue with him, but cmon man! His record speaks for itself.
Jim bob has done good but you go back and look at Havelock since the early 70's. Havelock has a tradition of being a great program. Every school will have years of being up and every school will have years of being down. I can remember 2 distinct periods of this with Havelock. West Craven and Havelock were built at almost the same time from the same blueprints. If you go look at one then go to the other you will see they are alike. They were referred to as our sister school. It took us 5-6 years to have our first winning team. One I'm proud to say I was a small part of. Our goal that year was to be the first Eagle team to score points on Havelock. Winning was never mentioned. We played at Havelock in one of the best games ever played there and lost 3-0 in 2 OT's. I can still remember the frustration of that ride home. Clay Jordan was hired and developed a solid consistant winner. We were still considered sister schools. Coaching staffs always got along good win or lose. Jim bobs first year was Jordan's last and we won 47-0. I can guarantee you Jordan didnt get in front of a camera and announce they were not our rival.

I was in a meeting earlier thinking about this and that i was going to reply to your comment. I owe you an apology for using this thread in this manner. I don't have a reputation for doing this but i admit i coukd have done this better. Respect your rivals. Some may like to pretend the drama is in Vanceboro but thats not the truth. Hopefully the new staff and West Cravens will work together to get along like they did 10 years ago 15 years ago or 30. I'm done.

Havelock has had some good teams and runs over the years but never the long term consistency and achievement that JBB brought. He also took it from its lowest with the previous coach winning 13 games in four seasons. Sasser had a great and long run (twenty plus years as HC) but he had more than a few seasons with multiple (three or more) loss seasons. I give JBB credit for his success. He did a great job. The extracurriculars I cannot speak of.

I am old enough to remember Havelock before Sasser. Frank Camiallo (sp) was the coach. They were a power house then. Had one team not give up a point until a point in playoffs against Jones Senior. Unfortunately, The Eastern Regional was as far as you could go. There was not a State Championship game then.

1971, the last year of no state title games. Beat Jones Senior 16-6 last regular season game for first points allowed. Beat Hoke County 12-8 and Northeastern 20-6 in the playoffs. Lost to Pisgah in the 1975 state title game to finish 13-1.

I guess it is the biggest shock in the state right now but I am happy we have him. I am going to support and be loyal just like I have been to every coach who Freedom has had.

Keep my name out of your mouth son! Like it or not what Otis and I say we are usually right! There never was once a question from myself or Otis on how great of a football coach JimBob is. However there is no question how much of a clown he is as well. The only reason he has not been ran out of town a long time ago is simply because he was winning. I personally know quite a few folks from Havelock and trust and believe a lot of folks are not heartbroken that he is gone. So keep my name out your mouth son!

Yea... you are "usually right"

Like a couple weeks ago when all we heard from you was how Shelby would be beat. Just throwing that out there...son...

Great hire at Freedom! I look forward to seeing what he does.

LMAO now go back and look at every post that I wrote and copy it on here and show where I ever said Shelby would be beat! What I did say son or daughter which everyone you prefer to go by is that if you think Northside was just going to lay down for Shelby everyone was mistaken. Nice try son/clown. So please go and post where I said Northside will beat Shelby.

This run-and-gun spread that Bryant runs will bring Freedom to the top fast.
He has the perfect QB in soph Birchfield and speedy backs/receivers to excel
in this set.

When you win big and they cut your pay and demean you it will push a person to start over.

NC is losing teachers before they have thirty years in or very early in their careers. They opt for other careers or move out of state. This state should be at least a top 20 pay state for teachers.
The communities need to let the people in Raleigh know that the public schools need more resource from them to help keep the good teachers and coaches in place especially if they are making a different in their schools and community.

That is what got McCrory elected in the first place. I was hoping to see improvement with him but things didnt change a lot.

“I’m not going to talk bad about Craven County,” Bryant said when asked if the cuts played a role in his decision. “They’ve done a great job by giving me a chance to be the head football coach at Havelock High School. Our superintendent (Meghan Doyle) is going to do a great job.”

Bryant said he had agreed to take the job last week, but asked that both schools not announce the decision until he told his players in person on Tuesday.

Gotta respect him for this

His former players, present players and staff will miss JBB. He was not just a coach. I pulled this off a previous post I saw and it nailed exactly where the negativity is coming from.

"The more I read, the more I sense that Jim Bob did not toe the "good ole boy" line by turning the other cheek when certain kids got in trouble. He didn't allow bad behavior. He made them get better or else they had to go. Maybe I'm wrong, and please correct me if I am. But a person like that will definitely cause a stir among certain types of people in a small southern town. I respect him for that though.

People who would intentionally use a public social media platform to write negative comments about someone who has had a positive impact on our community, especially an impact on kids, have a problem with respect. And they are raising kids who have a problem with respect. It's funny to me that they are acting like the self righteous ones."

FYI..JBB and his staff made these kids families. If the kids didnt have food, the coaches would bring food and give them groceries so they could eat. If they needed supplies, these coaches would bring them supplies. If they needed a place to stay, the coaches opened their houses to them. At one point, on Sundays a good amount of the team attended church together because the boys wanted to be there with the coaches. JBB built a family, not only a team. To some of these players they just lost a father figure. Freedom is one lucky school.
Oh and to Otis. He does have an Assistant going with him.

Freedom needs all the assistants JBB can bring. Several good coaches on staff and several that need to do something else.

Clean out the 'swamp' or in this case the Catawba River and win a state championship!!!
