Man, this is nothing compared to some of his past post directed at Shelby. We are the so called inner city school in Cleveland County, the Black School. Sad thing is, this guy is a school teacher.

Its all in good fun, If Burns can get harassed about goats and being rednecks, white trash etc, then Shelby can get made fun for the other spectrum. I will provide a safe space for any that need it. LA... do I know you?

I believe both schools have a mixture of all races.

Plenty of talent and great coaching at SHS. Once the coaches find the right combinations this team can go very deep in the playoffs. In 2010 and 2011 Shelby had 6 losses, and both years were playing in the 2A Western Finals...2010 lost in CRAZY fashion 21-14 to Salisbury after leading 14-0 in the 4th Quarter (remember the Salisbury onsides kick?)...2011 lost a barn-burner to West Stokes 32-29 after losing the starting QB on the first series of the game.

All I'm saying, is don't write off the Golden Lions just yet. They play this very tough non-conference schedule for a reason, and had a lot of starters to replace this year. These things take time.

Bralpa is exactly correct in his assessment. Shelby will be fine once they get to their conference schedule. South Point will be their only challenger and that game could go either way. Lions will go to the playoffs with 3-4 losses and breeze thru the first couple rounds based on athleticism alone. Come 3rd or 4th round their lack of a running game will be exposed and a solid team will get them. No shame in having a good team and not a great team. Every program has these adjustment years.

perfectly said... Shelby has played 3 quality teams. Burns is a rival and improved, also match ups matter and Burns may have just matched up well. AC and Freedom always have solid players too. Shelby is a good team this year and not great. Im sure plenty of teams would still trade with them.

yes they do. but what is Burns known for or what most of you clowns make fun of is rednecks and trailers etc...
Other than the played out goat thing, I seriously don’t see none of that on here regarding Burns, seriously, only see smack about the lean years you have had recently.

Many people on here are off your ilk. I remember back in ‘16 when Burns was off to an undefeated start, both teams, Shelby and Burns, came into that game undefeated. We obviously beat y’all. You guys thought y’all possibly had a special team at that time and were sore losers. I was told by someone who sat on that side, that Burns fans were calling our players dumb, criminals, thugs, etc. That’s the mentality in the county, outside of Shelby’s city limits.

If Burns handles East this will go a long way to let us know how good they are. Also if we need to be worried about Shelby.

well LA I cant speak for every Burns fan obviously but we all know that everyone has ignorant fans...shelby does too. I do believe Gaston county has more than their fair share though lol. I personally didnt hear any remarks like that and I know many Burns fans wouldnt allow such, so as usual and Im sure you know this as well that a few in every crowd doesnt represent the crowd. If anybody did act in such a way I know true Burns fans would apologize for not being treated well win or lose.
That 16' team wasn't "special" they were fun to watch because they were a very good team and a complete turn around from the previous 2 seasons. I remember BBB and I sat in the stands hoping that we could play with Shelby because they were special.

Shelby now 1-3. With KM, SP and East Rutherford coming up, it really does look like this season will be their worst in many years.
Turn out the lights, the party’s over...

Shelby can beat anyone of the
Three teams just mentioned. Will they, will just wait and see. They are not playing well now, but those kids can get it together. It may be a season to forget. KM coming to town Friday night, might be a good one.

They could become the unofficial homecoming game for teams on the schedule

After seeing what East Rutherford did to Burns on Friday night I think Shelby could lose against them also. Hard to imagine Shelby having a season with 7 losses.

Let's say Shelby is really down this year, and has a 7 loss season. And everyone else is up this year. What does this mean? Probably nothing. Because you know over the next few years Shelby will be back up and everyone else will regress to what they've always been.

It seems like to me this Shelby team doesn't have that certain Shelby swagger that teams in the past have had.

TBH I dont 'think anybody in 2A/2AA(even Hibriten and ND) could beat Crest or Kings Mountain this season. 3A/3AA is stacked and those two are looking like top dogs right now. The expected L's coming in two weeks are a write off IMHO. So I'm still reserving judgement based on conference games and also who Burns gets W's against. If Burns goes toe to toe with the other two county rivals then I'll be the first to admit underestimating the lions.

Simmons Overall Rankings
#19 Kings Mountain
#21 Hibriten
#25 Crest

Well, at least on paper, Hibriten stacks up pretty well with KM and Crest.

In the past, this is where we get hit with the cupcake schedule argument, despite 3 regional appearances in the last 8 years (*cough 2/3 on the 3A level). I don't why I thought a state title might bring some respect from around the region:) (joke)

KM and a Crest (power brand) could very easily beat Hibriten, but it won't be because of a supposed "stacked 3A" class level. Hibriten has the athletes to be competitive with anyone in the west, regardless of classification -- and the results to prove it.

While I will agree Crest and KM would struggle with Hibriten (and possibly lose despite the scrimmage) I will also add two things. One! This Crest team is more comparable to the 2010 Or 2011 Crest teams...lots of experience, not a lot of “talent” two! Simmons ratings (while fun to look at) are generally biased to the area he knows best, which pertains to mostly Eastern and Charlotte teams...I’ll never forget 2014, he had Havelock beating Crest, and Crest foot stomped Havelock. He picked Charlotte Catholic to beat Crest both times they played back to back...both times...wrong. It’s just all fun.

I think we all can agree there's no way of TRULY knowing. My issue with the original post was the reason given for Hibriten not being able to beat KM or Crest. It was solely based on one being a 2A school and the others 3A. It's perfectly find to have your opinion on Crest/KM over HHS, but I'm going to need a little more than classification level.

Rankings as a whole are just about fun - it gives us fans something to talk about when games aren't being played.

Tell me, how do you see Simmons as being biased? His is a mathematical formula. I've always appreciated that vs something like the AP poll where voters are likely to be biased because they couldn't possibly know enough about every team to make an objective poll.

To each his own,though

You two jokers need to pipe down and get a clue. This thread is about taking a poke at Shelby not whether the dynasty is crumbling like the O-line at Chase. Like anyone needs the musings of a musket baller talking about great football. That venue will be empty every time. Fix me a turkey pot pie.

I don't know about biased, I think the better word is flawed, at least to a degree. He gave you great examples of flawed. He had Catholic beating Crest both games and Havelock beating us. in 14. We boot stomped Catholic in one of those two games and destroyed Havelock. With that said, Simmons is correct lot of the time. I enjoy his ratings, but one thing they can't predict is heart, and coaching. Mathematics only takes you so far.

Wasn't soleley based on that, but also based on how they have been playing lately, who they played last year and this year and what they brought back this year. They both beat tougher teams than Hibriten have between this season and last season. In the last year Hibriten has only played/defeated TWO quality opponents. Not taking anything away from them and what they have done but looking at the facts, Hibriten happens to be a good team that has had an easier road and play softer competition than those 3A schools

As you noted, his system is usually right picking the winner. Over 80% of the time and probably a little less in the playoffs. Not bad.

I do not think it was as much being flawed as the computer program reading the information. Just as you acknowledged the computer cannot read in some components. I expected Catholic to win that season but was much less convinced in 2011. Did not think ACR would lose to Porter Ridge and definitely not PR to Davie. Simmons missed on those, also.

The year of the "boot stomp" the prediction was probably a bit swayed with Crest losing three close games with the computer reading the losses to Ashbrook (which Crest was highly favored to win) and South Point very negatively considering Ashbrook was not good at all and SP had several losses including a second round exit to an Asheville school which derailed the rematch with Crest.

You're correct btango, we lost a few games that year we probably shouldn't have, so that may have been the issue regarding that game. Out of all the prognosticators, Simmons does a great job, He had us beating TCR two weeks ago by 36, and we won by 36. LOL!
