Losing to Burns is a harsh reality check for any program but, when that team is Shelby, it’s like Michigan after the App State loss. Devastating and unforseen that’s two big “L’s” back to back and 1-2 after three games with Crest next Friday and The Bayonet Boys(KM) on 9/14. Is 1-4 on the horizon. I hate saying this but I’m beginning to think so and it’s nothing less than painful making this observation on the forums.

I will light a candle at church for these fine young men at SHS and hopefully this old sinner’s prayer will be heard even though I haven’t the best credit with the Big Man. Good luck Golden Lions. Chase week is coming too and that’s a free win.

Over? Come on man! Just because Shelby, WRH, Lincolnton or any other qreat program has a down year mean the program is going down the toilet nor changes need to be made.
Fans and does alike have expectations that are absolutely absurd. At the end of the day we're talking about 14 to 18 year olds in which the best coaches in the world can't control genetics, hormones, character, work ethic or anything else that makes a great team. You have down years. Everyone does. Some are worse than other

As a Thomasville fan, I can identify with pulling for a great program that falls on hard times. But can also see what bringing in fresh, dynamic leadership can do to help right the ship. We are certainly not there yet, but the renewed energy around here will have ripple effects that can only be positive.
The three outstanding programs mentioned in this thread have way too much support and tradition to stay down for long. Better get them now, and not crow too much. ‘Cause crow may be your regular meal soon if you do.

Have every poster on here lost their minds we are talking about SHELBY and it pains me to say this being a life long MOUNTAINEER but SHELBY is one of the ALL TIME GREAT high school football programs in NORTH CAROLINA and after a couple of tough losses every one is saying that the DYNASTY is maybe over are you people serious after many years of losing to them it hard to say this because the BATTLE OF BUFFALO CREEK was KM FANS BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR even though we lost most of them even when we had some pretty good teams, so you will not hear me saying that the DYNASTY COULD BE OVER.

Gonna find out everything you need to know about Shelby this Friday night... If they come out and flop against Crest like they did against Burns (although give Burns some credit, they really controlled Shelby in every part of the game, Burns isn't bad), then it's going to be a very very long year for Shelby, I could even see a losing season... But if they come out and beat Crest, that's the win that very well could change their entire year... Either way, we will know about 10 Friday night about the rest of Shelby's season...

As for the Shelby "dynasty" as mountie called it.. I would have to agree with that.. Shelby could have 2 or 3 down years and every team will still be nervous playing them... Shelby's name and reputation is set in stone

You two jokers need to pipe down and get a clue. This thread is about taking a poke at Shelby not whether the dynasty is crumbling like the O-line at Chase. Like anyone needs the musings of a musket baller talking about great football. That venue will be empty every time. Fix me a turkey pot pie.

LoL

Plenty of talent and great coaching at SHS. Once the coaches find the right combinations this team can go very deep in the playoffs. In 2010 and 2011 Shelby had 6 losses, and both years were playing in the 2A Western Finals...2010 lost in CRAZY fashion 21-14 to Salisbury after leading 14-0 in the 4th Quarter (remember the Salisbury onsides kick?)...2011 lost a barn-burner to West Stokes 32-29 after losing the starting QB on the first series of the game.

All I'm saying, is don't write off the Golden Lions just yet. They play this very tough non-conference schedule for a reason, and had a lot of starters to replace this year. These things take time.

I think the Lions can make a run... 2a is not as top heavy as last season

Shelby is playing teams most other 2A teams won't even think about. Much respect and I'm sure the playoffs will still have others looking over their shoulder at the lions.

P.S. heeeeeeeeeere kitty kitty...

They may have a down year for them or they may take a while to get going(South Point 2016). Shelby seems never out of it and every program has off years. They will be strong again soon enough! They have a tradition of playing for state titles and that is not going to change.

or the other side of the coin which should be looked at on 3A board is if Burns is for real this season. If they are then Shelby could be the worst team in Cleveland County and still go deep in the playoffs in 2AA, or still make the title game in small 2A(appears to be wide open).

Losses lead to bad seedings. No way Shelby can go far with 4 or 5 losses. 2AA way to strong this year.

If they have four non conference losses and go undefeated in the conference they should may be ok. Does anyone know if the one seeds (conference champions) are seeded off the MaxPrep power rankings? If so, Shelby could be a very high seed with four losses.

I'm thinking they take the season as a whole to seed teams so a conference championship would have a bearing on seeding but not as the only deciding factor.

TBH I dont 'think anybody in 2A/2AA(even Hibriten and ND) could beat Crest or Kings Mountain this season. 3A/3AA is stacked and those two are looking like top dogs right now. The expected L's coming in two weeks are a write off IMHO. So I'm still reserving judgement based on conference games and also who Burns gets W's against. If Burns goes toe to toe with the other two county rivals then I'll be the first to admit underestimating the lions.

I have been hearing from people in the program at the HS and the middle school for about 2 seasons that the well is running dry for Shelby, I never believed it but maybe its starting to ring true. The type of demographic that shelby pulls from can be very tricky. You could have a 6'4 Freak of an athlete as a freshman or he could be 6'4 and lazy as Sh!t and not play sports. It can always be hit or miss.

Not stirring any pot because there are enough spoons but Ive also been told that keeping kids eligible can be one of the biggest struggles.

Shelby may fall on hard times nd be like every program for a year or two but they will compete every 3-4 years for a title.

Never count Shelby out. I don't think they'll beat Crest but I do believe they will go on a run and position themselves favorably for the playoffs. Gotta have a run game to win late though, kinda surprising that were talking about a Shelby team that can't run the football.
