I'm not great at geography, but how is Whiteville in the Western bracket? We ARE talking about the same Whiteville that produced the late, great Chester McGlockton and is about an hour and a half from Myrtle Beach SC, right?Originally posted by Squirrel Gravy:
I think Mitchell fans are wondering where in the crap Whiteville is, and why they are going to have to drive that far.
My father had a co-worker whos son played on those mid 80s Whiteville teams. Saw Chester play many times. Was at that 85 or 86 palyoff loss to White Oak in the rain..think was something like 14-12, That year Whiteville only gave up 6 points in the regular season.Originally posted by olddog77:
sorry to get off the subject here, but the mention of the late great chester mcglocklin brings back lots of old memories. i am a big wrh fan and remember in those days our season used to end in whiteville every yr it seemed. some classic games came out of that rivalry. as a matter of fact, one of the greatest high school teams i ever saw featured mcglocklin, ricky shaw, joe reaves, heath hewitt, matt teddar, etc. white oak upset whiteville in the rain that yr, and they didnt even know what they had done! they were trully a dominant group. pat lennon is on that pro list also. just reminising
Draw a vertical line dividing the state in half. Because of the shape of the state Whiteville is actually very close to the vertical line you draw. It seems weird but they are just about in the middle. Look below. Whiteville is in Columbus County.Originally posted by jumbob:
