Holcomb stepping down at Bishop

He is a really good coach and man. Congrats on his recent success at BM and best wishes for whatever life has in store for his future endeavors. The league coaches in that new 1A/2A are probably happy to see this announcement as he had BM trending upwards. Any information on what or who BM has back this fall?

I have a lot of respect for his coaching ability. Don’t know him personally. But I do know he was putting out feelers well before he left Oak Grove. Some coaches just seem to have an itch and can’t stay in one place for very long. Eventually it usually catches up with them.

I never understood why he left N. Davidson for Oak Grove back in the day. Unless he just had a real itch to build a program from the ground up. He had N. Davidson running like a well oiled machine with consistent winning records and decent playoff runs. Also, great attendance at games and community support for the Black Knights. Hard to walk away from that to start up a brand new program.

OG was a good opportunity to take on and build a good program. ND was peaked and getting ready to slide down which they have. He is a great coach and will do well if he continues to coach.

Davidson County set Oak Grove up to be the gold standard of Davidson Co in how they drew the lines. Holcomb is a fantastic coach and will do well wherever he goes. High school coaches will be happy they don't have to coach against him anymore.

Bishop is a difficult football job as so many of the students never played any organized football before the 9th grade. Hard to be competitive when starting with the basics at that age. He did a great job at BM and best wishes to him.

100%. I played against them in that late 00's run they had where they were really good, and they were very, very physical and hard to figure out. That single wing they had then was well run. If they had been a little smaller in ADM's they woulda been a force in small 1A both years.

When they are good they are really, really tough to figure and stop. But when they are bad they can be the absolute pits. BM lives and breathes by who they can get there. If the new guy can keep those kids around that he helped buy in they should be fine ( but maybe not as well coached.) Their best bet is probably someone on the staff, if not and they go outside who knows. Jones is retired and wouldn't want to come back. Gonna be a big hire for whoever they get.

This makes the conference wide open until I'm proved different. I do think South Stokes may have a shot though, if their line can get more physical and that RB stays around and they get some bball players out for the skill spots, there's no reason why they can't be a serious contender.
