Grimsley vs Hough 12/6 Rd 4

I think some of you are discounting the history between these teams. Hough has been on an absolute focused mission to get exactly to this point. Now, emotion can work against you sometimes, but I think this iteration of Hough gets it done.

Grimsley will make them work for it though. We could be in store for a classic. We will truly see how good Brandon is at QB for the Whirlies.

He doesn’t like to get hit. That is the key. That changed the game at Weddington last year.

This is definitely the best defense Brandon will be seeing so far in his high school career.

I am pulling for the guilford county teams. But I don't see Grimsley winning this one. Seen them on film their defense and front 4 are huge. The offense is even impressive. Hough brings the wood . Very aggressive on defense. This is big boy football. Pulling your pants up. And the seeds are not done by RPI. They draw.

Last two games at Jamieson Stadium in playoffs the last two years were 42-35 (‘23) and 40-37(‘22) in favor of the Whirlies. This may be the best Whirlie team in the Darryl Brown era. Everyone assumed that losing the two D-1 receivers would result in a weaker Grimsley squad. False.

Turnovers and special teams may make the difference. 34-24 Whirlies.
Agree if the receivers constantly make receptions Summers will feast on yardage! Also they will have to cover Fazon because he is nasty fast if he gets going.

This definitely going to be a good one. I’m going to say Hough in a close one. Hough beat Mallard Creek twice with 33-0 and 34-0 win. Mallard Creek beat Archbishop Moeller 21-14 in OT earlier in the season. Archbishop Moeller is 14-1 and still in it.

Give me Hough. Really think the top 3 in the QC 4A/3A could all be top 7 in the state. If Hough didn't beat MC think they could have beaten EF, or Grimsley. Think WC beats Dudley Friday and Hough beats Grimsley. Big time Meck County vs. Guilford matchups.

-Off topic. See Hough/Grim starts at 7:30, and WC/Dudley at 7? Is this correct?

I think Hough gets it done but WC loses. The biggest difference between Hough and Grimsley this year is I believe it’s Hough who has more fire power offensively than Grimsley and that wasn’t the case in the last few match ups. Grimsley always had the edge with those elite wide outs . I think once Hough stifles the run game for Grimsley they’ll start to pull away. Easier said than done because Brandon and Summers are a load but Hough can get it done. Key match ups in this game will be Samari playing against his old teammates that play for Grimsley. One in particular Catoe at wr. I think Hough wins the match ups on the outside this year.
I don’t believe WC has enough upfront against the front 7 for Dudley. WC is a year away in my opinion.

Another key match up I like in Hough’s favor in this game. I like Hough’s interior line play to win the match up against Grimsley’s interior defensive line in the running game.

Playoff seeding is done by RPI. All conference winners are seeded based on RPI and then all other qualifiers are seeded based on RPI. The only time there is a draw is if there is a tie in RPI and all the tiebreaker steps are used and doesn't break the tie. After that they would draw.

You sure about that? 100 % sure

Yes. This has been the process for the last couple years. Not sure why it's a constant discussion on these boards.

4.1.18 Seeding(a)
The pre-determined East and West Regions will be seeded independently of one another.(b) The teams in each region will be seeded as follows:
  1. (1) Seed all 1st place automatic berths by RPI rating (or other NCHSAA selected ranking system).NOTE: The highest finishing team in its half of a split conference must finish in 1st, 2nd, or3rd place overall or have an overall winning percentage of .500 or higher in order to be seeded as a #1. Otherwise, the team will be seeded with all other at-large teams.
  2. (2) Seed all 2nd place automatic berths or conference tournament champions and at-large berthsby RPI rating (or other NCHSAA selected ranking system).(c) Once seeding is complete:
    1. (1) Existing byes will be awarded to the highest seeds possible.
    2. (2) The higher seed is the home team unless otherwise determined by the NCHSAA.
Tie breaker procedure is a lot longer so here is a link to the handbook. It starts on page 73, section 4.1.11.

This is Hough's to lose. Mallard Creek has a good defense and the speed to cause anyone problems. Hough blanked them not once but twice.
Massey had Mallard Creek losing to EF 29-28 and to Grimsley 28-21. Yes these are only simulations but gives us a clue. Hough took care of Mallard Creek twice 34-0 and 33-0.

Mister Honda, I hope your Holiday Season is filled with a full tank of gas in your Honda, enough egg nog and peach brandy for an Army, so much currency you have to bury most in the back yard, mermaids from Marineland, Florida tossin' one of them beach balls around in your inside, heated pool, with half the girls shouting " Mister, " with the other half responding with, " Honda, " I hope your ex wife called and informed she had hit the Illinois Lotto and was sending you one million dollars for all the bullshat she caused in the '70s, and last but not least , Mister Honda, and I'm serious as a Nolan Ryan fastball, I hope your local Hooters' girls are all gathered up in your Charlotte townhouse as they cat fight among each other, trying to woo your attention and a cut from the gold mine you recently acquired in a remote location in Africa, as you sit and drink brandy and eat grapes.
P.S. Grimsley by thirteen.

The key to the game will be if hough plays a light box thinking the front 7 can stop the run or do they stack the box and make Grimsley beat them through the air? Whirlies have seen a light box all year because teams are scared of Faizon and they just run run and more run, believe it or not the whirlies pass only %35-40% of the time. They will call plays based on the look of the box, summers hasn’t been stopped all year. Weddington kind of gave the blueprint to slow the Grimsley offense down last year, they are the only team to hold them below 35 the past few years. Grimsley has scored at will on Hough the past two games, if Hough can get multiple stops they will win the game. They have a great front 7 and I think Grimsley will have to rely on the QB to get the win

Grimsley has been held to under 30 points in every playoff loss they’ve had the last 3 years. If hough holds grimsley to under 30, they win. If not, I’m not sure I’m taking hough in a shootout. This is hough’s best offense to date, but I would go with the team with the #1 qb in the country in a shootout. Hough’s big boys up front will be the key for their D. If they can be dominant and disciplined like they have all year and keep summers in check, they win the game. Not having to put more resources into shutting summers down will allow their great secondary to feast. They will really need to get after Brandon early and often.
